Guest Room on the Coast (Not)

2.08.2010

Today I am going to join a couple more parties. Barb over at  gritsglamour.blogspot.com for Tabletop Tuesday and Karen over at nittanyinspirations.blogspot.com for Bedscapes and Beyond, which is making it's debut. I want to thank both these ladies for inviting us and be sure and drop in and join the fun and leave them a nice comment!
This guest room was my daughter's room when she was home. Of course I changed everything after she moved out. I decided to do a coastal theme since I love the beach. I don't get to go as much as I use to, but I love it when I do. I thought this would be a comfortable room for our guests, too. Who doesn't like to feel like they are at a seaside resort. They can imagine they are while they stay in this room.

I fell in love with this bed when I saw it at Rooms To Go. It has pineapples on the headboard and footboard posts which represent hospitality.  I purchased the Pottery Barn duvet and euro shams on Ebay. They have great prices on Pottery Barn bedding and pillows. I do decorate on a budget as my blog name says.
The yellow cotton blanket is by Ralph Lauren and I bought it at HomeGoods really cheap. The striped pillow cover is another Ebay fine and the yellow pillows with the jute trim were bought when they went on sale at Pottery Barn.
I have a nightstand that matches the bed to the left and an antique solid walnut table on the right. I try not to use matchy matchy furniture. I prefer to have each room look as if it came together over time.

This is the vignette on top of the nightstand .  I bought the pineapple lamp several years ago at a local decor store that has gone out of business.  The beach sign is another Pottery Barn piece bought on sale and I love it just leaning against the wall. The shells in the wooden bowl were collected on one of our trips to the beach many years ago and I bought the starfish at HomeGoods. The flowers are fake, oh no!, but hey they won't die and they look real.
This is the table on the other side with another beachy vignette. Another pineapple lamp, bird  and wooden things with the rope around them from HomeGoods again, and a Pottery Barn glass candle holder filled with a candle and more shells.

This is a nice place to sit, put your feet up and grab a magazine (Coastal Living of course) and just chill after being out in the scorching sun all day.

There are blinds and white sheers tied to a rod to soften the large window. This room is very bright
                                                   in the morning.

How would you like a nice cup of  tea?

Oh, and be sure and look at our little photo album by the bed. It is filled
with some photos from our trip to Hawaii.

I sure hope you enjoyed your stay in our beachy coastal room. Please be sure and come again real soon!
I want to thank Kimberly (good name) for co hosting the party for Barb this week.

Please drop me a note and let me know you were here. I love reading your comments!
Y'all come back now,

Kim

  10. Just discovered your blog and I really like it; our tastes are similar. And looking at your header is like looking at MY dog!! I've never seen one look so much like mine. Is yours a Yorkie or a Silkie? Thanks!

  12. Jacki, we bought a yorkie at least that is what her papers say, but the vet and the people at the Pet Smart Hotel where she stays occasionally say she is a silky. I have books on both and she looks more like a silky. My daughter has a yorkie which is much smaller and has different features than my dog. My dog weighs almost fifteen pounds and we love her to death. Thanks for stopping by...Kim

  31. I am sorry, but I do not have the name of the paint color. I painted this back when Princess Di was killed in the accident and my dear sweet hubby through out the can before I could write the formula down. It is Behr paint from Home Depot is all I know.

  49. Hi KIm, I am so glad that I found your blogspot. I found it through RMS. Your ideas and home are beautiful. I will be an empty nester this summer. After years of teaching I would really like to follow my passion on decorating and painting. Any advice. We have moved to a new state and making friends when your children are grown is a little difficult. I feel like I have friends just reading your blogspot. There are so many talented women out there with great ideas. Keep this going because it is the first thing I do in the morning.
