Touches of Red All Around

2.18.2010

I want to thank Danielle over at http://transforminghome.blogspot.com/ for starting a home tour party. I hope a lot of bloggers will join in the fun. Everyone knows how much we like to look at each others homes so she decided to make it a linky party. You don't have to show your whole house at one time. You can show as much or as little as you would like.
I am also going to join Sue at http://suelovescherries.blogspot.com/ for For Today is Rednesday. My first time joining this linky party. Please be sure and let Sue and the other party goers that you came by. My house is full of red since it is one of my favorite colors. So glad I found a red party!
The third party I am joining is Show and Tell Friday at http://romantichome.blogspot.com/. Please be sure and check out the others who have linked to this party and leave a comment so they will know you came by.

I have decided to start in my entry and then show you  my great room.....So come on in and I will gladly show you  around.

Boy, the sun sure is bright this morning. Oh, just ignore Bailey and Rusty (the cat who is in the bright light) that are playing at the bottom of the stairs.

Now to the right is the dining room.  This room is shown in more detail if you click on my archives to the right.

To the left is our living room which I call a sitting room. If I had lots of books it would be a library.
This is one of my favorite rooms and I will show you more of it at another time.
The sun was streaming in this morning finally after all the cloudy days we have had.

These Black Forest antique antlers hang next to the front door and were bought on ebay. I just recently started collecting these since I started seeing them in many decor books and magazines.

This picture hangs on the wall over the bottom stairs.

Look up and you see the catwalk to the guest rooms and bonus room.

Now let's go on into the great room and quit standing around in the foyer.
Oh, before I  forget, look to your left  and you will see a large oil painting.

This is a bench with pillows ( I love pillows) and a large country French basket.

I found this pillow with French writing on it at a flea market. This pillow is very heavy.
The other pillows are from the Pottery Barn Outlet store.

O.k. and now we are entering the great room. Oh, you asked what my floors are? They are Brazilian Santos Mahogony and  we had them installed around five years ago or so just on the bottom floor. I wish I had before pictures to show you. We had the same carpet that is on the stairs throughout this floor except the kitchen had white linoleum, yes that is right, white linoleum. I will tell you that story another time.
The wicker piece under the sofa table is an antique hamper from Provence that I found at a store in Florida.

This is where we can sit and watch television and curl up by the fire.
I love my brick red chenille sofa. It is so comfy. We bought it on sale from Beverly Hall furniture along with the red chair and Mr. Savvy's leather recliner. He just had to have it.

Here is the fireplace. Mr. Savvy designed and built the mantel and installed the marble surround all by himself. He is a very good carpenter and handyman. Not his day time job though. Didn't he do a good job?? He also hung all the windows and doors and did all the trim in the house when we built our house.

I bought this mirror at a local decor shop and then added the collection on the mantel.

Yes, this is Mr. Savvy's chair.

I painted and glazed this table many years ago. The seagrass rug is from Overstock.com

Pillows are from Pottery Barn (bird print one) and Ballard's.

This is the t.v. side. The door goes to the master bedroom. Show you that another time.
I really want to paint the built ins to tone down the white, but not sure what color. I may just glaze them or I thought about painting them a green with the chocolate glaze over them or maybe a tan color???

Just a few close ups.

I just recently started collecting these Staffordshire pieces.

Monogrammed pillow from Ballard's

This is the view from Mr. Savvy's chair.
I almost forgot to show you this painting. This is by the bench with the pillows. My mother found this at a garage sale many many years ago. It is and oil painting with no signature. Everyone loves this painting. My son wants it if we ever give it up. I think it will stay her for a while. We call him the gypsy man.

Now we are back in the foyer. I hope the tour wasn't too long. I do hope you will come back and visit often. I love when you come by.

Please go on over to these linky parties and say hello. Please be sure and let me know you were here. Just a quick comment is all it takes. I read and appreciate everyone of them.

Y'all come back now,
Kim

  9. Just beautiful. Not too much, not too little... just perfect! What I love the most is that you can tell you live there. It isn't a museum. It just has all those lovely details that make a house a home.

I would have loved to have been at the Italian reception!!! That sounds fantastic! I love all kinds of seafood. I would have been in heaven. What a great opportunity to go there and get to really have a taste of what Italian is really like!

Girl, I am serious... you need to come help me decorate. I will feed you crab legs! When you said that, I got tickled. Tom and I can eat our weight in crab legs!!!! Love them! We have been kicked out of an all you can eat crab leg buffet, not once, but twice! My roommate was the server and Tom bowled with the cook, buy hey, they still kicked us out! Tom tells the story that the first time I had crab legs, I was like a crazed woman. He says there was crab in my hair and butter running down my face and I look deranged!!! We would definitely have a good time together!

  10. Your home is just beautiful and just the french country look that I love! I love everything, but my favorite is that bench with the pillows on it and the basket beside. I have a similar bench and you have inspired me to make some pillows like yours and search for some large baskets to add around. I can't wait to see more of your fabulous home!!!

  11. Small world! Tom's grandparent lived in Pembroke Pines, FL right by Hollywood! They used to eat at the Rustic Inn. We went there once and Grandpa, who was a crab leg expert, stared at me while I ate and said he had never seen anything like it! I am telling you... a little decorating, a lot of crab legs... we would have fun!

  22. I just saw you live in Buford, GA. I am in GA too, about 3 hours south of you. My hubby and I lived in Athens for about 6 years while he was in grad school and then he got a job at UGA. You live near some great shopping - Mall of GA, Homegoods (my favorite), Queen of Hearts. A friend of mine introduced me to Queen of Hearts a few months ago when we went up there shopping and stayed with her brother. You live in a great place!

  25. Kim, I'm so glad you gave us this little tour today! Your house is beautiful with all those arches, and your decorating style is super! Now that's the style of house I would feel right at home in!

What is it with men and leather? Mister wants leather furniture, too! Ain't gonna happen anytime soon!

Your gypsy painting is wonderful - reminds me of the Johnny Depp character in Chocolat.

I love that seagrass rug with the herringbone weave. Did you buy it from overstock recently? Almost all my seagrass is from there, but I've not seen the herringbone. If they still have it I am definitely ordering one. Love it!

  39. Kim, thanks for visiting and your sweet comment. Your home is lovely!! You asked about my ideas for your builtins. It's funny, but before I even read what you wrote, I was thinking a glazed green. I think it would be stunning and in keeping with what you have going on. Great tour!

  46. Your home is beautiful with all the red touches. I noticed red in the kitchen curtains too. They look so pretty with the green walls.

I missed it if you you mentioned where you got those lovely lamps. They make quite a statement in the room.

Of course the "Gypsy Man" was quite a find.

  47. Kim,
It is a good thing we don't live close by! We would have a blast talking decorating and shopping too. I love your antlers! I too got a couple of mine from Austria on Ebay. The ones that have painted leaves came from there. Aren't they fun? Your home is beautiful. I see alot of similarities in our tastes.

  57. Sue, if you read this, I would love to know if you know anything about this painting. You are the first person I have heard of that has another one. Where did yours come from and how long have you had it??

  58. If I pretend that your blog banner is your front door then I knew I was going to find something I liked here when your blog first opened up. I am a color girl and I heart the reds with brown. I especially liked your family room or great room wall color and I copied the image of your mantel and filed it away in my favorites decor file on my desktop for future inspiration in my own home. Beautiful home. Thanks for letting me visit.

  59. Kim, I LOVE your home. It's gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. Your mirror used to be my favorite piece in your home; however, I must say that the "Gypsy Man" painting is so interesting ... I just love it. You are a wonderful decorator ... thanks for the tour. Becca (Adv. in Decorating)

  60. Hi Kim,

I was used to looking at your posts on Rate My Space so am thrilled that you've expanded with your own blog. Your home is a delight and never fails to bring a smile to my face when I look at the images you've posted. Can't wait to explore some of the other blogs you've listed. With respect to painting your built-in shelves in the living room, I think a glaze would be nice.

    Best,

  62. It looks great, Kim. I wrote down your flooring. We are in the beginning stages of searching for wood floors to replace the crappy builder grade carpet that we inherited when we bought our house 2 years ago. You've done a beautiful job with your home.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Love the mirror in the great room. Everything you do looks nice.

  64. Kim, I love your home. I think we have very similar tastes - fabulous!!! You have inspired me to perhaps share some photos of my home. You said it so well that we love looking at each others homes. I've been tempted to post some pics on rate my space but some of the comments can be a bit snarky (if that is a word). Anyway love your stuff - mirrors above the fireplace and the bench with pillows are my favorites but everything is wonderful - so warm and welcoming.
I just bought the linen pillows with crests and french sentiments from Restoration Hardware for my game room and am loving the look. Now I'm wanting a bench like yours to add to the space!

  65. I love your home. I am a single mom and nursing student without much money to decorate but we have a home now and I'm so inspired by all these beautiful blogs and decorating. I love the french pillow. I want to make one so bad, but will not pay over $100 for an old grain sack. I know one will show up if I look hard enough. I also love the glass canisters with the lemons and all the roosters. My two year old, Caden, already knows Mama likes roosters and without any concept of money, he thinks its just a matter of finding them and bringing them home: look mama, rooster right dare! Hi roooooster! Hi! How are you roosooooore? Maa-Maa! ROOOOSTER!LOL. He would love your pictures but hes in bed.

  66. Hi Kim,I don't think I've commented on your blog yet. I love sifting through all your posts! Regarding your "Gypsy Man" painting...my mother had that same painting because it reminded her so much of her younger brother. As well as I can remember, she bought it from HODA or Home Interiors...I think. The title of it is The Wandering Wayfarer. I googled it but couldnt come up with anything.
Just thought I would leave you with that tid bit of info.

  68. Kim, love your home. You have a magical touch with decorating. I absolutely love your family room. Even the leather recliner. It's the odd pieces that give it it's magic. I personally wouldn't do anything to the built ins. Their white adds to the whimsy. But if you must do something maybe just glaze them over. Thanks so much for the tour!
