Equestrian Chic/Ralph Lauren Style

3.02.2010

Today I am showing you my sitting room. This is where the sofa is in my header. I love the smaller size of this room. It makes if feel cozier and more intimate even though it has a soaring ceiling in it. I call this room my English country equestrian Ralph Lauren room. You will see why when you see the photos. The wall that the red sofa is against is painted a deeper warmer color than the other three walls. Eventually I will paint all the walls. I have always been fond of hunt scenes. I think it is because I have always had a love of horses. Growing up I always dreamed of owning one, but that day never came. So I have filled this room with hunt scenes, antlers, Staffordshire  figurines, pottery and books to give that English country feeling.  I have also used several different fabrics and animal prints to add to the English country feel. So come on in and sit a spell and I will go fix us a spot of tea and some crumpets. Don't you feel all English now? The English love their afternoon tea.

This is the view coming in the black double french doors.

This wall was hard to place furniture on because of the angle wall and then this short wall so we bought the cherry cabinet that can house at t.v.  and  a bookcase on one side.

The hallway leads to the powder room on the left, then our bedroom, and the great room.

Scored these used riding boots on ebay.

Close ups of items in the bookcase.

Naturally shed antler found on our property by my daughter several years ago

Some roe deer antlers from Austria bought off ebay.

Side table, horse lamp from flea market, hunt scene and more antlers.

Riding hat found in an antique store on St. Simons Island,

Hunt scene needlepoint pillow from a local flea market.

Close up of the paint detail on chair.

Big comfy chair with nailhead trim and faded leather from the sun.
Good spot for reading or recline it on back and take a nap.

Needlepoint pillow found on ebay.

Hard to get a good shot of the window with all the light coming in.
Plantation shutters bought last year after Bailey finished chewing the blinds that hung there before.
Thank you, Bailey.

Dupioni silk drapes that use to hang in the dining room are reused in this room to soften the window and I added the tasseled trim with fabric glue to dress them up.

Small hunt scenes bought many years ago dirt cheap at Garden Ridge.
These are on the wall next to the window.

Prints from the Bombay store.

Plaque above picture is from Southern Living at Home

I had this picture rematted last year from a green to a dark chocolate brown.

Morning shot with the sun pouring in.
Leopard ottoman from a local consignment shop for $99.
Seagrass rug with brown border from Overstock.com

Please, let me know you stopped by for a visit. I love hearing from you.

Y'all come back now,

KIM

  51. Lovely room, Kim. Like you, I'm drawn to the warmth and feel of an English country hunt theme. I don't have such a room, but wish I did. I used to love visiting the Ralph Lauren store because it felt like being in an English country home. Sadly, our large RL store closed many years ago and all we have is a small shop that doesn't offer the same feel of rich woods and antique furnishings.
