My Winter Bedroom.......

3.11.2010

but not for long. I wanted to share how my bedroom looked for the last few months before I share the spring/summer look with you. You just saw the photos of how it first looked when we moved in back in 1995. If you didn't just click HERE.  Let's move into the present and you will see how my bedroom has changed. First a little history.....

A few years ago we decided to have hardwood floors put in throughout the first floor except for our bedroom. Mr. Savvy and I thought it would be best to still have carpet in the bedroom so the floor would not be cold when we got up in the middle of the night or in the morning. The carpet we already had was GREEN and I don't mean as in good for Mother earth. I mean it was green with blue undertones so that it would blend with the stained glass window in the master bath. Because, oh yes, we had it in the bathroom, too. By the time we started having the finishing touches done to our house we were so tired that we could not think straight anymore. My husband was way too exhausted to lay tile flooring so we told the carpet store to just run it on in the bathroom and in our closet. That lovely green carpet still resides in the closet, but you will never see it!! Finally a few years ago the carpet was ripped out of the bathroom (thank goodness) and my husband and I tiled it. Back to the bedroom...I picked out a sand colored mini shag for the bedroom. The mini shag was everywhere a few years ago, in the stores, in model homes, in show homes I toured and now in my bedroom. It really is so soft underfoot. In a way I would love to have it changed again, but Mr. Savvy will get mad if I say that out loud. shhh.   We finally replaced the very old cherry bedroom suite and then a couple of years ago I painted the bedroom Davenport Tan by Benjamin Moore paints. The tray ceiling was done by a professional painter about a year later. I had no way of reaching it so we paid to have it done.

In the winter I put on darker colored bedding, but this bedding would also be perfect all year. I just like to change things a lot. I just cannot keep it one way very long. The off white desk was in my daughter's room and she did not take it with her and I decided to use it next to my bed so all the furniture wasn't matchy matchy. Bench at the foot of the bed is from Ballard's.

I love the tall headboard of this bed. Comforter is from Pottery Barn on sale and the coverlet was bought on line from a high end retailer for a steal on RueLaLa.com. It is by Bellino Fine Linens of Italy. I do like good quality linens in the master bedroom. I love Pottery Barn sheets and I usually get them on ebay or on sale.

close up of the duvet... I love the colors

Close up of the tan gingham monogrammed pillows from Ballard's. I always look when Ballard's is having a sale and usually they will have certain fabrics at a discount and the monogram is free.

Mr. Savvy bought this chair and ottoman for me for my birthday. I love to get things for the house. This is one comfy chair. I found the vintage throw from Italy at a flea market and the floor lamp is from Target.

Close up of button detailing on the chair. The stripes in the chair look green but they are pale blue.

Armoire for Mr. Savvy's stuff. Pottery barn pottery pottery on top found on sale.

I believe I am going to paint this mirror over my dresser and hang it horizontally. What do you think?

Got this big Country French style lamp half price at a local decor shop.

Found the little antique maple chair at a decor shop on sale of course. Large brown jar lamps are from the same store that I got the red lamp from and got the two for the price of one.

And more changes. A few weeks ago we took the little white desk out and gave it away and replaced it with this antique sideboard that was on the landing of our staircase. Replaced the dark coverlet with a white one when I was getting in the mood for spring. Oh, but I have more changes to come. I also had these linen look lampshades on in place of the white ones for a while. Easy way to change  a look is by changing the shade.

Another full shot with a different pillow I had on the bench. No sew pillow I made with brown burlap from Hobby Lobby. Can we say cheap?!

Here is a sneak peak of more changes to come. Stay tuned.......

I am joining Cindy over at My Romantic Home for Show and Tell Friday. Please be sure and click on the link and check out the other participants this week. I am sure you will be inspired as I have been.

  5. Kim-your bedroom always looks so perfect! Love how you change it up too. I too change things around quite frequently (I get bored easily with things). I have a winter and a summer look for my bedroom (as well as most other rooms in my house). My bedroom is a similar color to yours. Just picked up a new quilt and accessories in pinks, greens and whites to use for the summer. Looking forward to seeing that new fabric you let us take a peak at!

  6. Oh my heart be still! I love your bedroom. I love every piece of it. I think the mirror would be fabulous turned on that wall. I love your cozy nook. I love your monogrammed pillows. I like your new sideboard, but I did love that white piece. I love it all!!! Love it!!! I also love that you still sleep in a full size bed! Is that right? We gave it up and got a king a few years ago and sometimes I really do miss snuggling up together because there was no where else to go! I didn't miss it so much when I was pregnant and had the fortress of pillows all around me, but I do remember my first night home after Jemma was born, scooching all the way over to Tom and snuggling. By the way, I love your room!!!

  8. I want to be your give away stuff friend. Wonderful sized room, big enough for the chair and ottoman. Gotta love monograms, they just fancy up anything.

  9. Kim I love all the changes you have made so far. I will have to admit I kind of like the little white desk but I know what it is like to need a change. I agree, paint the mirror and hang it horizontally. Will you be adding more of the cream color? I like the little sneak peek of something with birds on it. Now that just shouts Spring to me. I will be back tomorrow to see what you have done. Kathysue

  10. I do love looking at all your rooms and really admire your style. I like the paint color in your master. Speaking of paint colors, what color do you have in your entry, the pale yellow color. It looks perfect. You could leave me a comment or email me at "jhlaperle@gmail.com".
    Thanks!

  13. Your bedroom is just gorgeous. I love the changes you have made so far. It's lovely, but the fabric tease looks beautiful. I have been doing the same and changing out accessories and things in ours. I do so agree that it is fun to change things every once in a while. It just makes a room seem totally new. I still am just drooling over your living room. Love it. Hugs, Marty

  14. For a minute, I thought I was looking at my bedroom! We have similar tastes and arranged the room the same! Your chair and ottoman reminded me of my chaise. The long dresser, like mine too. (I would definitely hang the mirror horizontally.) We even have a tray ceiling, although ours isn't painted.., I love the new sideboard next to your bed, and can't wait to see what your spring bedding will be. It's nice to see someone put energy into their bedroom. I find it's the last room we focus on and it should be the first. Yours is so relaxing and comfy for you and Mr. Savvy!

  16. Sooo pretty Kim! I am curious about why you would replace the carpet in there..is it what they are calling Frieze? Did it not wear well, or do you just want a change? I'm not being nosy here, I'm shopping the carpet stores! I love being able to peek into your lovely home and see the things you have put together...it's so helpful to see what has worked for someone else and learn! thanks for sharing with us!!

  17. Hey Kim I always did love your bedroom and I love the way the sideboard looks but boy did I chuckle when I saw the last picture I just bought the same thing from PB but only one I'm going to use it as an accent somewhere. Do we have the same taste or what(LOL) Martina

  18. I love the monogrammed pillows! Good to know Ballards monograms for free. And I also really love the pottery on the armoire. I really like the coverlet on the end of the bed. I've been thinking about re-arranging my bedding to do something similar. And I am really in need of sheets! I am going to check out ebay!
I can't wait to see what you have in store...you know I adore that bird line from PB!

Have fun - Sincerely, Jeannette

  26. So, so pretty, Kim !! I love your master bedroom. At first glance, it reminded me a bit of "MackenziesMom's" master bedroom (from RMS -remember her?) It looks so comfy and cozy ... love the chair Mr. Savvy bought you and the monogrammed pillows are the perfect touch, too !! I can't wait to see your Spring additions(although, it looks so fresh and Spring-y as is !! Hugs, Becca

  28. I think your bedroom is the perfect combination of elegance and coziness. Of course , so is your entire home. You just have great style and it shows from the largest to the tiniest detail.
Why are'nt you on tv with your own show instead of the goofs I see doing horrible design.. I think I'll write HGTV and ask them that very question..

  38. Hi Kim,
Your room is sooooo pretty. So is your whole house. What's up with the bird fabric?? I love it! You said if we lived closer you'd get some slipcovers for your sunroom. Isn't Buford near Columbia SC? Sort of?
I'm starting some for a woman, next week. They're for her sunroom. She says she's out there all the time and wants it white and fresh. How fun, huh.
