Oh, How I Long For........

3.03.2010

spring and then summer. I love to work in my yard. Our yard is very large and as I get older the yard seems to be getting bigger. I told Mr. Savvy that eventually I would not be able to keep up this huge yard all by myself, but for now it is what I love to do. I cannot wait to be back on one of these.

Oh, how I love my John Deere.

Then I need a bunch of this except we get about forty bags for me to put out.

Then I need to do this. No, this isn't me.

I also need a bunch of these for the beds around the pond and in the back yard.

I also have to use these.

All this back breaking work that I love to do to get to this again!

Yes, I long for the days of yard work again and please please no more of this.

Mr. Bunny said he has had quite enough of this, too. This is the south isn't it???

Do you like to do yard work or does someone else do it for you? Eventually someone will be helping me with mine.
This week I am joining Outdoor Wednesday over at A Southern Daydreamer thanks to our host Susan.
Please be sure and click on the highlighted link to go visit the other participants this week. Please let me know you dropped by for a visit. If you come by when I am out in the yard I just may put you to work!

Y'all come back now,

KIM

  2. I am ready for it too. When we moved her I kept thinking how much I would miss the snow. I got over that pretty quickly!! It was wonderful for the night and day it was here and wonderful when it left! There were robins in my backyard this morning so I am keeping my fingers crossed. Tom is the yard keeper here. What kind of grass do you have? Ours is so horrible! Our yard in Michigan was like a carpet and here it is so thin and sparse! We want to make it nicer. I know you do all the work, but it is just glorious to look at your house!!!!! It is beautiful!!!!!

  3. Kim I love getting out there in the dirt! I am not happy about how the squirrels dug up all the little varigated lariope that I planted last fall though! They just dug them up and flung them aside, as if to say...just try and tame this property! I have been dreaming of starting new beds, but I must say the thing I miss most about dream house #1 is the flower beds and landscaping I did...all by myself! I do not want to start over but here I am! This yard is going to be wilder and more natural...easier on the back that way! I love the white crape myrtle in front of your house...is it a special kind that grows tree-like, or do you trim it to grow that way? I am excited about planting some of those!
As always , thanks for sharing it with us!

  5. Me too Kim and I love the winter and the snow but we had so much of it this year now I want the spring to be here so we can start working outside. For the most part the hubby and I do it ourselves we only have a landscaper cut our grass. We have over an acre of property and alot of gardens most of them we put in ourselves when we moved in you get so much satisfaction out of it knowing you did it yourself. Martina

  6. OMGoodness, Kim!! you drive a John Deere?!! I love the image of cute Kim on a green tractor. I am constantly more impressed with you. I have a gardner but I still do the flower bed planting. I enjoy that. I do let him plant if I am in a pinch. We had to get a gardner due to a health issue and never let him go even when the health issue was over, hehe. One of my necessary luxuries. Kind of like the microwave, you can live with out it but you really would rather not have too. I can't believe the beautiful snow you are getting. Spring is just around the corner. Kathysue

  8. I cannot wait to get outside too! I have pretty much all mulch and pine straw so I need an entire dump truck load of mulch and about 40 bales of pine straw. Not to mention all the brush and limbs that are everywhere we have to pick up. I still cannot even see my yard:-(

  11. Hi Kim... I do all the yard work at my house too and also love it. Sometimes it gets a little overwhelming for me because I work full time. I may have the nursery lay the mulch and extend my flower beds this year though. Your Spring comes alot sooner than ours does in Ohio. I won't be getting into any clean up or yard work until at least the end of April or early May. Mother's Day weekend is big around here to get all your annuals planted. The nurseries are packed! Your yard is BEAUTIFUL !!

  12. I can only wish I had a yard to work in. For now I live in a downtown apartment surrounded by concrete and parking lots. Can't wait for the day I have a yard to work in again, so for now I'll just enjoy looking at yours. :)

  13. My husband is the yard person in our house. He loves to play in the dirt! My job is to go to the garden centers and pick out the pretty things! I usually pot the flowers for our front porch...he does the rest!

  14. When you get done with yours, could you please come over to my house and make my yard look as beautiful as yours? Please? I'll buy you lunch and paint your nails when you're done. I'll let you go on vacation and I'll house-sit for you. Please? Ok, I know it's a tempting offer. I'll just wait to hear from you.

  17. Kim, you know I am addicted to gardening! I love it. It is great exercise for me going up & down my hill! I can't believe you get on a riding mower!! That is one thing I will NOT do. Your property is soooooooo beautiful. You do a great job tending it.

P.S. I snuck out the other day to trim the liriope for a little while. It felt good!

We have had an unseasonably warm winter in the Pacific Northwest. The daffodils are up and most of my plants are starting to emerge. Spring is coming! I can't wait to see more pictures of your projects!

  20. Kim-I love to garden! Its a hobby of mine. Our yard is quite small in our neighborhood, and I have plans to make more flower beds this year...less to mow I guess. :) I'm working on plans to make my flower beds bloom all year-right now I've got mostly spring and early summer plants. I am planning on adding some late summer and fall plants this year-but plants are so expensive anymore!

  21. Me too! We do have guys that mow and do that part but we do the rest. Our flower beds and pond are pretty high maintenance. I love to be outside and just can't wait to get out there!

  22. Hi Kim! Noooooo! I don't want to have to start mowing again! I love the rest...but not the mowing! I have a walk-behind mower and it wears me out to wrestle with it. I do love the result and at least it looks good several days! Happy week!...hugs...Debbie

  23. I'm not sure I share your excitement about getting back on that Deere but I recently did a post longing for some green in my yard again too. A color evangelist like me can only deal with so much white. :)

Your home is lovely - really. Because of the name of your blog I am guessing your gardening days aren't too far off. For me it is still a couple of months a way. The upside of that is I still have a bit more time to get serious about fitting into my spring clothes. Yikes.

  24. Kim, your lawn looks like a velvet carpet!!! I do so love the spring and summer, too. I really enjoy yard work and I think it is good for the soul! =) Spring's a comin'! Time change the 14th!

  25. We have the most awful looking lawn in all of Cobb County....even with the help of TruGreen....they should be ashamed that they take money from me every month....But we do have something that you don't have....We have a BillyGoat....No not the animal....the lawn equipment that picks up all our leaves every fall... millions of them...it's a big fancy lawn vaccum.....

  26. My hubby has always done and lot of yard work but we are trying to get to the point where we have someone else doing it! I love a pretty yard and nice flowers though! We have azaleas getting ready to bloom here in Florida! ♥

  27. Your garden and home is so beautiful, Kim. You've got a lot of work coming ahead of you. I love gardening too but I am so terrified of snakes so I have 2 gardeners working part time along side me about 2 times a week. And I do not know how to use garden equipment. Can you believe I have never mowed grass in my whole life?...Christine

  31. I do most of the yard work and enjoy it. In the spring with its plentiful precipitation, it usually means mowing every 4-5 days so I don't have to bag it. I am always happy I have the strength and energy to do it.

  32. My back is killing me! I planted the vegetable garden at our home in wine country yesterday. Cabbage, tomatoes, herbs, broccoli, etc. Then I bought geraniums for all the pots. I pooped out after planting two of them, left the rest for next weekend. It did feel good to get some dirt under my fingernails though! I think we all have spring fever!

  34. Kim, I can't wait either! The kids have already picked out their seeds for planting their garden this year. They have their own side of the backyard for gardening. They actually do a really good job!! I just received my newest issue of Creative Ideas from Lowe's that has me drooling to get started. We'll be starting soon, since in FL!

This year I want a trailer for my mower, thats on my spring wish list.. Cant wait to see what you plant this year..

  37. I too cannot wait for spring-but here in Mass our wait it MUCH longer than yours!! We still have LOTS of snow on the ground-yuck!! We won't be able to see the grass till probably end of March sometimes even April!! I use many of the same "tools" that you do-yes the blower is my best friend-but mine doesn't have a back strap-my husband laughs and says if it did, I would fall face first to the ground because of the weight of it!! Your yard is gorgeous-I can tell your meticulous like me (or is it crazy)- lol!! Debbie C

  38. I am counting my lucky stars that I live in Arizona where the high today will be 72 and I'm not digging my car out of snow. I don't garden much but I do admire those living in the south in the summer or anytime it is green, it is beautiful. The yards are perfectly manicured! Love it!

  39. I have a love/hate relationship with my yard. I love it to look great, but hate all the work!! Most the time I put out 100 plus bags of mulch! I get no help and find myself feeling sorry for myself... But the time is coming and I admit, I am looking forward to it.

  43. I am a southern that was transplanted to the north and I am OVER the snow. I want some sunshine and warm weather! My hubby and I love to work in the yard. It is just an extension of your home and if you keep the outside nice, you know that the inside is nice.

Our home is new and it isn't 'me' yet. I can't wait to plant some shrubs & flowers and hang my window boxes. Come on spring!
