Thank Goodness For Change

3.10.2010

It is raining here again today so I started pulling out old pictures of our home. I forgot what some of the rooms looked like when we first built and moved in. Now, remember this was in the mid nineties. I had to take pictures of the old pictures to upload on to the computer so beware these are of poor quality, but you will be able to see just a few of the changes we have made in the past few years. I feel like I should have you sign a disclaimer before you look at these because they could cause a sudden light dizziness or headache. Don't say I didn't warn you!!

This shows the lovely blue, burgandy and mauve colored wallpaper in the kitchen. That is the old dark navy dining room with our old table and chairs.

A closer look at that wallpaper. Oh, yea!

This is the old great room. The walls were a deep mauve I guess you would call it. Nice blue plaid furniture. Can you say kuntry?!

Here is a better look at the lovely sofa.

Oh, and here is a bird's eye view from the stairs. This was the carpet throughout this floor except for our bedroom and the kitchen. The kitchen had some very shiny white linoleum. To see the updated great room please go HERE.

Now we move on to the master bedroom. The walls look blue, but were actually green. I loved this green and white bedroom for many years. The furniture changed first, but the wall color did not change until a couple years ago. This was our cherry bedroom suite from our first home.

Got to have me some country!

This was after we were able to get the plantation shutters. I do love my shutters.

I even found this old photo of the outside of the house. This was the first summer. This shows the house before we had the Tennessee fieldstone added to the front wall and porch. The copper above the dining room window still looked like copper before it got weathered. I would love to have it replaced, but it is way too expensive these days. The shutters and front door are painted a teal green. Hard to see it in this photo.
To see the how the exterior looked last summer please go HERE.

O.k. I hope your head doesn't hurt after all that. I know mine does. It is fun to look back at old pictures  and see how much everything has changed in just a few years. We have lost a lot of the trees behind the house since this picture was taken due to the wetlands behind us and the addition of the sun room and the garage for Mr. Savvy's car restoring hobby.

Here is a little preview of an upcoming post.

Stay tuned for more.....

Please be sure and let me know you came by for a visit. I love hearing from you!

Y'all come back now,

KIM

  1. Wow, what a transformation! Outside and in. I wish we had taken pictures as soon as we moved in. I think my father-in-law might have taken some. I'll have to research. Fun to look back, I wonder in 15 years what we will think of our houses now.

  5. Kim, Ahhh, the nineties! I remember the blue, mauve and burgundy... I had it too, but my couch was blue and mauve plaid... What was I thinking? Ü Kin, I love the way you decorate your home... You put so much care and thought in each of your rooms and they're so tastefully done. Keep sending photos of your NEW decor 'cause it looks fabulous.

  6. You've come a long way, baby! hehe. Hardwood flooring is soooo much better in a great room. Would have loved to do that in our house. It just started raining here, too. Was hoping to grill some chicken tonight! Maybe I'll grill in the rain!

  7. No way Kim - I had that exact same blue checkered couch when I first got married. Ha! I guess that was the style then.

  8. Oh the pink, blue, and green of yesteryear. I do look back fondly at my picutres from the same era. We had a blue sofa, blue chair, blue waincotting, thank goodness my husband would not allow me to have the matching blue carpet. While I loved the colors and country style then I am glad I don't have them now.
    Thanks for sharing.

  11. Isn't it funny how we think that a certain look is the ultimate for awhile...then we wake up one morning and hate it? That's what I've done over the years. Well, not really switched to different looks but different versions of a traditional look.

    Your home is just gorgeous!

  13. I loved seeing your home in the past! I had two loveseats in a hunter green check, very similar to your blue sofa. I used a lot of greens and mauves, too, at the farm.

Can't wait to see what you are working on.

  14. And 20 years from now you're gonna look back at your beautiful home now and go, "Oh my word....!!!" lol :-) I do that with my fashion all the time. We think we're so classic and chic and then all of a sudden... it isn't! :-)

  20. Nothing wrong with having something that was in style 10 years ago. We will look out of date 10 years from now. That's the way it goes.

I do love how the outside has change. So pretty. I can't wait to see what is at the end of your bed:)

  21. I love looking back at old pictures too and seeing how I used to decorate. My old bedroom at my parents' house is still painted the lovely mauve I picked out many years ago.

  25. Your house was lovely for the time. I can't wait to see next week.

I admire people that stay with a time period...one day many pieces will be "vintage", "collector" pieces.

Some friends of mine collected old 50's and 60s furniture. It is not for me, but everyone has different taste. Some people change, yet others enjoy theirs for years to come...

  26. Things sure do change! I use have the mauve and blue everywhere!!! My couch was similiar, as well. Are we going to see your bedroom next? I can't wait!! :)

  31. OH MY GAWD!!! I remember when you had your house decorated that way and at the time, I thought it was beautiful! Ha! Times sure have changed (thank goodness). I think back to some wild colors I use to have in my first house. Remember the cobalt blue walls and the raspberry carpet??? Someone actually bought the house and kept it like that for awhile afterwards too. Too funny. You're very brave to share your old photo's with everyone. I don't know if I could do that.

  33. Hi Kim!

It's so much fun to look back and see how far you have come...I agree with another blogger...What seemed so perfect, now gets the reaction of "What was I thinking?". Writing the background of Karen's Garden Cottage has given me such great therapy..."Hey! Look what we did! Let's go for more!" It gives you a lift and makes you appreciate your journey. (Do you agree?) You do a wonderful job and are quite an inspiration!

    Love, Karen

  34. Hi, Kim! Thank you so much for your sweet comments! I have been missing out on my blogging for sure!

Don't you love to go back and see how much we change things over the years? I love every single thing you have done to your house, but I am sure in the 90's I would have loved it, too!

The only thing I have not enjoyed seeing the changes over time in is my own pictures! LOL! Doggonit! If we could just figure out how to make-over ourselves as well as our homes, it would be grand! LOL! Have a wonderful day and may God bless!
