Oh, No, She Didn't !!!

4.27.2010

Last week I showed you a mirror that I refinished and told you I would show you where that mirror hangs. First let me give you some history and before shots of my teeny tiny powder room. Now I am going to warn you of the upcoming photos they could make you a little queasy. I know you are going to look at the before shots and say, "Oh, no, she didn't"! Oh, but yes I did!

When we first built our house I was using jewel tones, since that was in at the time. I had a blue on blue striped wallpaper put in by Mr. Savvy. It was o.k. for the first few years until my color scheme changed. Well, I thought I would get all fancy smancy and do a faux treatment. Plus I did it to cover up all the gauges made when I took the wallpaper down. That was no easy task. It took me a week of working on it every night after work. So grab your barf bag and take a look. Just kidding!

Oh, my aching eyes!

O.k. now that you survived that (I hope) I can show you how it looks now.
Remember it is hard to take good pictures in this small space.

New wall color is Richmond Gold by Benjamin Moore. I had painted my mom's dining room with this and she had a whole gallon of it left over since the guy at the paint store sold us too much. Then we installed new light fixtures. I still want to replace the brass faucet. Got to talk Mr. Savvy into that soon.

This is an old gold frame that I refinished with the Revere Pewter paint that I used in the nautical guest room and brown glaze. Not sure if this looks alright, but will keep it for a while and see if it grows on me or not.
Bought the two bird prints on the clearance aisle at HomeGoods for $10.00. Added the plant to an old heavy chippy planter I found at a flea market for $7.00.

Bird towel holder from HomeGoods last year for $12.00 and I repainted it.

Love my chippy yellow table in here so I could add a small lamp. Found this alabaster lamp at a flea market for $10.00. Just needed to make this small space feel homey and cozy for my guests. Sconce with tulips is by Southern Living at Home.

Paper hand towels in a pretty spring design that I found at Tuesday Morning for $2.00 for a huge pack.

Diffuser and a Staffordshire figurine on the bottom level of the table.

Striped rug from Dash and Albert rugs has all my colors in it.

Found this wicker paper holder at Home Goods several years ago.

Soap dispenser with an old fashioned look from Target filled with soap from Bath & BodyWorks. I want my guests to fill pampered when they visit the facilities.

And another close up of the mirror transformation.

Hope you enjoyed  my teeny tiny powder room. This week I am linking to the following parties:

  2. Kim, I've got you beat hands down on having a teeny powder room. Mine is rectangular & has less space than yours on either side of the commode. Want to hear something funny??? I wanted to do that same faux finish over my RED paint - I just never had the time to do it!
Love the way your powder room looks! The mirror looks great and I love the little flea market stand & the cute birdies!

  4. Kim, I don't even have a powder room so don't worry about the small size. Isn't that what a powder room is supposed to be. :-)
It looks wonderful. Love the wall color, and even better that you had the paint on hand. I like the idea of a table with a lamp in the powder room or bath. Wish I had the room. It does make it cozy. Your little bird dish is calling my name. :-)

  36. Everything looks fabulous! The wall colour was a terrific choice, and you know... it works with the brass fixtures (for now). The mirror is fantastic as is the frame around the prints. Like you, I'm not sure about it in this application - too much like the mirror frame in size and style I'm thinking. You know... you didn't do all that bad a job with the faux painting. ;-) Of course the powder room looks SO MUCH better now!!

  52. It's okay that we do crazy things in our house because at the time we do them, they are in style! LOL!

I use to have BLUE carpet in my first home. I think that is why I have an adversion to blue now and that was 24 yrs. ago.

The mirror is so pretty as is all the other touches. (I have the same black SL wall scones:)

  60. Love the new look Kim, it looks very chic, bet your guests love it too. I actually liked the color of the 'old look', just perhaps not so much the faux? although I had a house once and did faux sponging on just about every wall, so I've been through that stage ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  61. Kim, you made a small space feel so elegant...I love it! I wouldn't have thought of adding a lamp, but I really like that idea. I think your faux finish looked really nice, it just isn't what we are seeing as much these days. I feel the same way about wallpaper...I used to use a lot of it and loved it, now I don't have any, nor do I want any!
