Sunday Favorites

Hi, everyone. I hope you are having a great weekend. I did get some yard work done on Friday while it was sunny and hot. Today it has become cloudy and cooler so of course I am blogging.

I am joining Chari at Happy To Design again this Sunday for Sunday Favorites. I dug in my archives and pulled my breakfast room post back out for anyone that may have missed it. Please be sure and go over to Chari's and check out the other participants this week.

This post was published on 2-24-10.

I would like to share how my breakfast room has transformed over the last few months. The room never looked bad, but it just needed to be freshened up a bit. Just like we need to be freshened up a bit from time to time. The wall color stayed the same since I just painted it a few years ago. Oh, how I wish I had pictures of my original walls. Just picture wallpaper with a white background with shades of rose to plum and light blue to dark blue flowery things all over the walls. That was what I liked when we built the house in 1995. Oh, the jewel tones were the thing. In fact, I saw the wallpaper in a model home and loved it so I had to have it in my kitchen. Of course over the years styles change and so did my taste.

After going and looking at home tours and seeing all the new colors in these show homes I quickly fell in love with the greens, brick reds, yellows and blacks and started incorporating these colors into our home. This was over years of time. I found the green wall color I wanted in the kitchen and went to work. I used Benjamin Moore rosemary sprig. I even liked the name of the paint color. Oh, this looked so much better than that wallpaper.

The chairs to this table were originally a blue almost a teal. I painted them black and distressed them.
We have had this table and chairs since 1980. Still in very good shape. Solid maple butcher block top farm table which I loved and used a very long time.

This hutch belonged to Mr. Savvy's mother. It was just a brown wood color and I painted it red. I took the glass out of the doors and add chicken wire and fabric. I have some of my rooster collection on top.

This is the window treatment that we have had for many years. We actually bought this custom treatment at
a local flea market and it was the perfect size. We got such a great deal on it. You can see some of the transom window above the window treatment. The way I had this hung was really drawing the eye down and was taking away from the transom.

Then a few months ago I found a new spot in the house for the red hutch so I could turn the table this way. I always felt it should be turned this way, but I had to work with the red hutch. I love it turned this way. Then I was sitting there one day looking at a French Country book by Charles Faudree and saw how he used a bench at the table. I thought, hey I have a bench and tried it and it worked. O.k. now it is looking better. This table is really small when we have anyone over to eat and really no room for serving pieces on the table. So one day while out shopping I found a table and chairs I thought would be perfect in my breakfast room. I got all excited until I looked at the price tag. I left and knew that table and chairs would not be mine.

Then one day I received a mailer from that store and everything in the store was ON SALE up to 40%!!
I thought well, that table and chairs has probably been sold or it is only 10% off. I gave them a call and asked if they still had the farm house table and chairs and they DID! Oh, I was getting excited. I asked how much is it on sale for and it was 40% off!! Oh me oh my! Now all I have to do is ask Mr. Savvy if we can get a new table and chairs. How would I pull this off?? I gave him a call and in my sweetest voice I said you know our anniversary that is coming up in February. A big one. #35!! Well, since we aren't going on a trip do you think we could get a table and chairs I have had my eye on and now  is on SALE?! He then said o.k. and I was so excited! Now I know a lot of you want jewelry or a trip or something for your anniversary, but give me something for the house and I am in hog heaven!! Here are some pictures of my new breakfast room.

Just look at that wonderful yellow chippy farm table. It just exudes Country French. It is nice and big with big chairs. Plenty of room to spread out. The chairs have rush seats.

Close up of the distressing.

Just three things on the wall in place of the red hutch.

This is my new chandelier that we bought on line before Christmas and my husband installed it. The burlap shades are from ebay. I looked at some  on line at Ballard's and they wanted sixteen dollars a piece. I don't think so. I bought all six of these for twenty dollars. Woo hoo! The chandy was cheap, too. In fact I have seen it being sold on line at Walmart now.

This shows full view and shows a good picture of the new window treatments. I ordered these on line from Country Curtains. I love buffalo checked or gingham  fabrics. I wasn't sure what color to order, but am pleased with the red. Red is in almost every room in the house anyway.

This is the view looking from the great room.

Marla at Always Nesting invited me to her new linky party called Woo Hoo Wednesday and said I should link this post. Be sure and check out this new party. We all love a good party!!

Thanks so much for stopping by. Please let me know you were here by leaving a comment.

  15. Thanks, Kim! I looked on ebay already for the sign but there isn't one big enough to my taste. Anyway, I just came from TJ Maxx and found a tin sign, it's a calendar but i will repaint it and just make my own. It was marked down to $2.50 so it does not matter if I mess up. You know I love your dining area, so pretty. Love the dining set and the colors...Christine

  22. I don't thnk I saw this first time around -- I love the "new" look! That table and chairs are gorgeous -- the colors, the curtains, the chandelier; it all works together beautifully.

In fact some of my roosters are clamoring to come live in your room; they say it's more their style than where I've got them! :-)

    Best wishes,

  23. Loved your kitchen before and now. You new table and chairs are so country French, like you said. I would love to have something similar instead of the white I have. I like mine, just want something warmer. I have already told you how much I love those checked curtains. They are just perfect for that space!

  24. I do love that table and chair set - just gorgeous. The thrift store Deb mentioned is at the corner of Jimmy Carter and Spalding. I think it is called Best Thrift Store, and it is locted where Frugal Fabric used to have their store (next to Gold's gym). Good luck! Linda
