Hunting and Gathering

5.15.2010

I have been hunting and gathering a few things lately for a certain room. Can't give that away yet. Here are some photos of a few of my finds mostly from local flea markets and ebay.

I found this 3.5 qt. soup tureen with the most beautiful details on ebay. It came with the huge platter and the spoon for fifteen dollars. I thought that was an extremely good deal for something old and huge. It is made by Elios pottery in Italy, which I know nothing about. I just love the size and details of it.

Here are some silver plated flatware I found recently. Most were sold in bundles for under four dollars.
I love the patina of these and some are monogrammed.

These are the monogrammed butter knives

Old ironstone platter from flea market for seven dollars.

My best find was this silver champagne bucket for thirteen dollars. It is big and heavy.
Others I have found were $75 and up. I think I may have squealed when I found this one.
I am trying to decide whether to leave it tarnished or to shine her up.

Right now it is in my hunt room with some boxwood branches in it.

Really loving that champagne bucket. What a steal!!!! It looks good all tarnished but I can't keep the silver polish off of my tarnished items, just have to see how they look all shined up.

    The flatware is great too!

  13. All of your finds are great - but I love the champagne cooler. It's perfect with the boxwood, and I could see the arrangement looking beautiful at Christmas.

  14. Sweet is one word to describe. I am really loving the silver bucket, I think I would leave it tarnished to be honest. The tureen was a deal, I just mentioned on another post I have always wanted one. Well I had a busy day Kim, Yard sales galore...I spent a whopping 9.00....I did OK too, can't wait to start working on my new projects. Thanks for linking up Kim for my first party...

  21. That soup tureen is such a pretty piece! I have a silver piece exactly like that. Did you see Bill @ Affordable Accoutrements use his this week in Tablescape Thursday w/ a gorgeous display of flowers. I've been buying up cast off silver recently too, and I'm still debating whether or not to polish it.

  25. Some very stately finds, Kim!

I am developing a bit of a relationship with Victorian silverplated things. We're only just dating right now, but one never knows where things will end up!

  31. I smiled when I saw the tarnished silver ice bucket. My dad gave me one for Christmas about twenty years ago and this past Christmas I was looking for something to add some florals and lighted willow twigs to and I remembered that ice bucket. Mine was also tarnished. Polishing silver is low on my priority list I guess. I tried polishing it but wasn't able to get it completely gleaming. In the end I decided I kind of like the tarnished look. Go with it.
    Have a great weekend

  35. I'd like to shop where you do! You have found some beautiful pieces. The champagne bucket is fabulous. The tureen is so pretty on your dining room table. Y'all know how much I love silverware...you have some great pieces...the ones above the butter knives are Oneida/Wm A Rogers Happiness made in 1940, you may already know this. Couldn't see the pattern of the butter knives clear enough to identify them, though.

  36. Hi Kim!

Oh girl, I am LOVING that tureen set! Just beautiful (a major weakness of mine)! And that silver bucket is wonderful! I like to have some tarnished silver pieces around but, I have to confess, when I get a new silver piece, I just have to polish and clean it just to see what condition it is in. Which sometimes is a good things, other times, I wish I had no cleaned it! LOL
