My French Country Inspired Kitchen

5.24.2010

Hello everyone. I hope everyone had a good weekend. Most of you know I have been painting. Almost finished and then the clean up begins. Since I don't have the house finished to share yet I thought I would share my kitchen with you. I took these photos a few weeks ago. It sure doesn't look this nice and clean right now.

We remodeled this kitchen about five years ago. I did have all white. White cabinets, white linoleum floors, white corian counters with blue edging, and a floral wallpaper. We had new door and drawer fronts made. All the cabinets painted by professionals, granite counters, and new hardware. Mr. Savvy and I installed the tile backsplash  and I painted the walls. The wood floors were installed a year or so before the remodel. I know most people like stainless steel appliances, but the white ones were all in good shape except we did replace the oven with a new trivection/microwave combination . I do wish the refrigerator was recessed, but it isn't and I just have to live with it like it is until it quits working. It was already $11,000 just for what we did.

I do wish I had thought of having a door panel made for the dishwasher and painted black.

Le Creuset tea kettle was a gift from my daughter

Found this little container at an antique store

towels from Anthropologie

Bar stools that I recovered

Williams Sonoma  toile apron was a gift from my son in law.

Love my deep black granite sink

My favorite hand soap

Had seeded glass made to replace plain glass in the doors

Mr. Savvy trimmed the hood.

Granite is Giallo ornamental

Hope you enjoyed the tour. I am linking to the following parties:

well wishes. I will rest eventually!

  1. What a special place to be able to prepare meals for your family, Kim! It is SO You! Beautifully decorated & accessorized as is everything in your lovely home. I feel like I could walk in your front door & find my way around with my eyes closed. (except for the bathroom...I don't remember seeing that yet.) LOL

I had a friend who hired an auto body shop to paint her appliances. They did a GREAT job & it really updated the look. I can't remember what color she went with...it was a looong time ago but I do remember being very impressed with the smooth as glass finish they were able to achieve. You never would have known they didn't come that color. Just a thought. Don't tell Mr. Savy I'm the one who gave you the idea! :-p

  3. Hi Kim,
Love your kitchen it came out so nicely. Like how you have it decorated too. I was thinking when I saw your stove hood how much I liked it, cause mine is sorta shaped like that but after 30 yrs. I am tired of it and it is sort of a focal point in my kitchen, and I was thinking maybe we could do something like that, so it was neat to hear your hubby trimmed that out. I have been checking out magazines for awhile now trying to find something that would be a nice change but not realy expensive. course, one day we will get around to it. Handy guy your hubby, mine is like that too! don't you just love that!!
Thanks for sharing your very pretty kitchen with us, I enjoyed my tour very much. Like those red checked curtains in the dining room too!! Might as well say I liked it all cause I did!
    Blessings hon,
    Nellie

  5. Kim...your kitchen photos are so beautiful...they where always nice on RMS...but they seems so much more detailed here. I love the two toned cabinets...and all those little things you mentioned you do not like...honestly know one else would even notice those things. Stainless is not all what is cracked up to be,constant cleaning of finger prints, etc....it scratches too. I have to try that hand soap...looks pretty too. The new color is looking fab!~

  10. Yay! So nice to see your whole kitchen! I love it! It is gorgeous, just like the rest of your home. Your husband did a great job on the hood! I really am loving your hardwood floors in the kitchen though. We had hardwoods in our old house that we built and I loved them. It really gives a much warmer look! I wish the owners who built this house would have extended the hardwood into the kitchen but they did'nt and I know I will never be able to match the hardwood that already exists. Your painted cabinets, the black ones and the cream? ones, and seeded glass doors all are beautiful too! So much to love here in your kitchen!

  11. Hi Kim! I LOVE your French country kitchen! Every detail is perfect...but my favorite thing...the hood...vey frenchy! Reminds me of the hood in a French friend's home. I love the way the kitchen is so open and looks so fabulous with your breakfast area! Your hard work has paid off..it's gorgeous! Happy week!...hugs...Debbie

  13. Kim, your kitchen is stunning. I love the color you did on the cabinets. They are just gorgeous. All of the moldings are just wonderful. You have such a beautiful eye for decorating. Your granite and tile choice is perfect. I really like that you painted one section of the bottom cabinets black. That looks fabulous. Beautiful home and I know all of our new paint will look stunning too. Thanks for the tour. Hugs, Marty

  23. Oooh, I have been wanting to see the rest of your kitchen and, of course, it did not disappoint! It is gorgeous! Love the color/finish on the cabinets and how you have the black on the bottom in that area. I so want to get rid of the white cabinets and have more of a creamy/aged look like yours. Maybe I'll get that one day!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Beautiful kitchen, Kim! I love the breakfast area with the red/white, gorgeous. The rooster tray is in the perfect spot to bring your eye up to admire the beautiful range hood. You have done a wonderful job on your kitchen.

  27. Oooooh!
    So pretty!
I personally prefer white appliances- do you know how smudgy the stainless steel ones get?
The birdie towels are simply adorable-thank you for the inspiration to get going on the re-do, update, freshening I have in mind for my kitchen!
    Blessings to you, sweet Kim!

  28. Beautiful, simply Beautiful.. I especially love the Red Drapes.. it's the pop of color I like!
Your fridge is exact to mine.. although my kitchen has been going through a re-do, as you, it stays till it dies! I am thinking of painting mine. Might just take up 'Rettabug's' advice and contact a Auto Painting shop? Interesting idea!
    Nicely done!

  29. Hi Kim, Your kitchen is beautiful! Love the cabinets with the seeded glass and that you used dark and cream colored cabinets for contrast.

You mentioned that you wish you had a door made for the dishwasher in black. Check to see if you can flip the front panel. Some dishwashers are made so the front panel comes out and the other side of the panel is black. Have a great week!

I redid my small kitchen a few years ago and so I know what you went through but it came out fabulous you must love it. If your dishwasher door really bothers you take it and have it sprayed at an appliance store or I bet Mr. Savy could take the door off and spray it for you! Can't wait to see all the new updates when you are done. Thank you for visiting and leaving your kind comment on my Little Bit of Red Love; I flipped my lid! I am SO happy you named your granite because I have been eyeballing the Giallo Ornamental for the new house (with almost the same finish cabinets you have! LOL) Great to see it in a whole kitchen instead of just sample or slab!
And I LOVE the green on your walls! My kitchen was green for a very long time and when I repainted to the SW blonde, I missed my green so I painted my 1/2 bath and DR green! We like A LOT of the same things!

  61. Kim, your kitchen is beautiful - and your cabinets are exactly what I've been searching for. We have very nice custom cabinets in our 5-year-old house, but with very distinct wood grain that is the only thing I see when I look in there. Not good. Plus it feels very dark. You mentioned resurfacing and new doors - was this done by a local contractor?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Still as gorgeous as I remember! When I first glanced at the soap dispenser, I thought it was a liquor bottle and it made me laugh as I was thinking you probably could use a drink by now!!! Hang in there...your almost "done"! I like the molding!

Your kitchen is beautiful...no surprise;)! I have been thinking of replacing my backsplash and I am in love with yours! I think our granite is very similar so the tile would be a nice compliment to mine too! The cabinets are gorgeous...I love the two tone...perfect...and all of the accessories are GORGEOUS! 79. Hi Kim,
You have a lovely kitchen, I really like the soft color, the granite and backsplash, so elegant!
Sometimes appliances have front covers that come off and can be reversed, have you checked your dishwasher? That would be an easy fix, or have you considered painting the front yourself? It would be fairly simple, just make sure to use the right type of paint!!
Anyway, whatever you do with the dishwasher, the room is really nice right now, it's warm and homey and inviting!

  90. Kim,
I love it!!! I have the exact same granite and the finish on your upper cabinets is so similiar to mine...reno in done in parts...over 5 years! And, I too did my own backsplash tile...only it's a subway...one of days I need to both and I'll have to link you!

May I suggest only replacing the white dishwasher panel with a black one to blend into the lower cabinets? It's a great cheap trick!

  112. Kim, love your kitchen so very much. Would you share the paint color of the top and bottom cabinets? Is there a glaze over the white cabinetry? Also how does one find someone to paint the cabinets? I would love to do mine currently I have cherry and I would like to have end panels put on the cabinets. Did a local cabinet maker make the new doors and drawers? Love everything you do. Wish I had a neighbor like you!!

    ReplyDelete
  113. Pam, thanks for the comments and I do not have the colors of the cabinets since they were professionally done. I do know he primed them and then painted the white ones white first then sanded the edges and then used a stain for the glazing and then he used urethane to seal them. Same for the black. They are sanded and stained, too. A friend of ours owns a company that makes door and drawer fronts for other cabinet makers and we got the new fronts from him and then he recommended the painter.

  118. Hi there! I know I have posted a comment on this before several months ago (and I still love it)! I am going to use your kitchen for my kitchen inspiration! Do you know what color of paint the painter used and what color of glaze? I have white appliances also and I was worried it wouldn't look good with white cabinets, but yours look great!! Also, where do you store your microwave??

  119. I absolutely LOVE your kitchen... I also renovated my cabinets by painting them and had a new backsplash put in. I painted my island black and love how it looks with the creamy beige cabinets. I have the french country breakfast table and chairs that you have and I am thinking about painting them black to match the island. I also have matching bar stools that are black as well. I really really like it. Congratulations on your "NEW" kitchen.

  120. We just built our home and I used the same granite as you. I love your contrasting upper and lower cabinets! Can you tell me more about your backsplash tile? I haven't installed ours because I can't decide. But I certainly am interested in copying yours if you don't mind telling me where you got it! Was it difficult to install this type?
