Reveal of a Change

5.27.2010

I am so glad the painting is done until the next project is started. Not this weekend. Our fireplace wall has always bugged Mr. Savvy and now he has finally fixed or covered up the problem. When the chimney wall was framed there must have been a warped board used and it made the wall at the top of the chimney bough. So we were painting a fake line at the top to make it fool the eye and look straight. No one noticed the problem, but we have always known it was there.

When I said something about painting, Mr. Savvy said he was going to tear out the wall and fix it. I said oh no that is not what I wanted started. That would have been a major job and a huge mess. I had a hard enough time with the mess made just while we were painting. Well, all of a sudden a light went off in his head and he knew how to fix the problem.

This is an old picture and it does not show the top, but I wanted you to see a before so you could see how this wall has changed. None of the room looks like this now. I still have the slipcovers on.

He realized he could trim out the top of the wall and cover up the problem.
Not a good photo, but it was cloudy when he started this.

He put crown molding at the top and a smaller piece of trim at the bottom.
This is the best shot of the true paint color.

The trim runs down both sides, too. Then he painted it all white and presto the problem is hidden.

He also repainted the wall the same as the rest of the room. Moved the mirror I had there before
to a new location and put this picture here. The room is so much brighter with that dark wall gone.
I will show you where the mirror moved to in a future post.

Bought these huge heavy candlesticks on sale for twelve dollars.

I just love the patina of these.

I am loving my new wall color. The pink beige is gone.
Photo really doesn't do it justice. Little darker in person.

Here is a little sneak peek at something I bought at the flea market today.

I am so proud of the trim work Mr. Savvy can do. He is self taught and does such a good job. He is
a perfectionist at whatever he does. He cannot stand some of the trim work done in new construction.

  7. That looks sooo great!!! He IS a handy man! lol Can you tell me more about the backs of your bookcases? Are they painted black? I love the way it looks! I have some builtins that are all white and I always think "somethings not right" but don't know what it is. Maybe it's the backs!

  8. I love love love it Kim!~ Your FP wall looks entirely different now. Love the picture too. New cool candlesticks....Kim you guys did an amazing job! What a team, it is nice to have a handy man. Mike is awesome too, when I finally get him to do a project, he is so anal about it. You must be soooooo happy, no more pinky beige walls. I think we had the same color in our Florida home...the pinky beige color that is.

  9. The color is a custom color since the first one was too dark and the second one was too yellow. So a little squirt of this and that and we finally got the right shade.

  19. Brillian, Kim!
That really turned out great, and I'm impressed that you got it done in such a timely manner. Things don't always move very quickly around here (some other people don't see the need to move fast...we are like the tortoise and the hare when it comes to finishing projects!)
I hope you have a great long weekend, and get some rest from all that hard work! Enjoy your pretty, fresh new space.
