Five Must Haves

6.21.2010

Rene from Cottage and Vine wants to know the five things that we really would have to have in our overnight bag for traveling since summer is usually when we are packing our bags to go somewhere.

I had to think about it and here are five things even though at my age I need several more items than these.

If I am going to the beach or even just wearing shorts or capris in this hot weather this product is a must for
my legs. I have spent thousands of dollars trying to get rid of little varicose and spider veins that I so graciously inherited from my mom. Of course the gene did not start with her her mom had them too and it probably just keeps going back with each generation. Lucky me! I read about this product in a magazine last year that it is a go to for many celebrities and it does help make my legs look better. There is a slight sheen to this which makes the light bounce off the skin and helps to hide the little unsightly marks. So this would definitely be in my bag.

This is not a necessity, but I don't want to stop using it because I am afraid my eyelashes will go back to the way they were. For some reason as we age our eyelashes get shorter and skimpier. Well ladies go to Drugstore.com and get you some of this stuff. I saw this first mentioned by Kathy Lee Gifford on the Today show last year some time. She was talking about how she had been using this for two weeks and already saw a dramatic difference and did not have on false eyelashes (which I have never tried). She mentioned where she ordered it from and I went to my computer and ordered it right then. At first I thought the price was a little high at $50, but then when I saw other brands at $125 and up including the prescription one, I thought why not try it. It works, let me tell you. Please give it a try if you want longer fuller lashes. Mine are not real thick, but they are longer for sure. Mr. Savvy even noticed the difference. This also lasts for months. I don't use it every day anymore. Maybe three times a week.

Got to have my Roc deep wrinkle night cream. Been using this for a few years now. Working pretty good so far.

I believe I have tried a gazillion mascaras over the years and may have finally found one I like. If I had to have one make up product with me I would want mascara. This one is great. I have to pump up my new longer lashes.

And this is a must for me at the beach or when I work out in the yard. I break out in a rash from some other products, but this one works great for me.

Can't wait to see what everyone else is carrying along in their bags.
Linking to Cottage and Vine for this fun party. Want you join us?

Thanks so much for stopping by this weekend and all the wonderful comments.

Y'all come back now,

KIM

  2. It was fun to read about your faves Kim. I will have to check into the Givency mascara. It's one of those things that I don't try unless a friend tells me about it. I like your sunblock choice.

    Thanks for joining the party!

  9. Believe it or not I have a doctors appointment scheduled for Thursday to try the perscription form of the eyelash gel. I am going to try this instead and save myself a little bit of money not to mention the pain of the doctors visit! Wish me luck!

This is such a great idea for a linky party...leave it to sweet Rene!

    Enjoy!

  10. Hello Kim,
I happened across your blog through a link from another one and here I am, two hours later.... :) Went back through almost all of your old posts, just couldn't help myself. I have the exact same bench that you painted green.... And I have a 17 year old home that I'm trying to update on a budget. Can't wait to replace all of my shiny brass doorknobs and fixtures. And that pallet you have hanging in your bathroom.... I had two of those years ago that I could KICK myself for donating to Goodwill. Mine had tags on them stating that they were vintage grape drying trays from California that had been made decorative by the addition of vintage prints decoupaged on them. One question if you don't mind.... How in the WORLD did you garner so many followers in such a short time????? Your blog is a work of art, but how did so many folks find it so quickly? Was it through linking to other blogs or through giveaways? Time to crawl out of bed now and get moving.....

  11. OK, I'm not one to buy a lot of skin care products, but I think I'll be adding a few of these to my list. My legs and lashes could definitely benefit from this advice.

Fun party and great list...thanks, my friend, for sharing!

  13. Hi Kim: I'm always on the prowl for southern bloggers as I grew up in the south. Thanks for the handy tips. I've been thinking about the Roc so am glad to have that recommendation.

  16. I've tried so many sun cremes over the years..., and still get a tan, no matter what I put on. No I have a heavy zinc oxide loaded one (heard that zinc oxide is the only thing that REALLY protects from the sun), but it's thick and leave a white film, not pretty. I'm going to check the new Neutrogena out.

  18. Well, I OBVIOUSLY needed to drop by here this afternoon. I see several little items that I need to put on the wish list. I definitely need that leg perfecter.

Now the lash gel? I REALLY WANT THAT one, but I'm so doggone cheap.
Betcha big bucks I cave in and buy it.

  19. That is one wild looking mascara brush! I need to grab some new sunblock. I looked at some the other day, but it wasn't what I went for so I kept on walking.

  21. I may want to do this on my blog, too! I absolutely LOVE hearing about my friend's favorite things! I pack for the beach pretty often and sunblock for my face is high on the list! Then I need a hat...and sunglasses and some flip flops and I am pretty much set! Oh, some plastic grocery bags to pick up shells...and some disinfectant wipes! lol I don't think 5 items is enough! Let me ask my hubby! ROFL!!!

  25. I have always wanted to try Roc. Nice to see a good recommendation on here for it. I never want to buy something unless I have heard good things about it! That mascara brush looks like a torture device!!! Is it hard to use? I bet it takes some getting used to! Great post!

  26. Oh Yay! More fun things to look forward to as I age..I've never worried about my lashes before...yet! LOL! I've been forewarned. I love Neutrogena products and use them regularly. I've heard Roc was good but have never tried it..nice to hear these real life testimonies! Great post!

  27. They all sound really good Kim. I want thicker eyelashes! Mine are already long but I'll take even longer. LOL! *Smiles*

I'm thinking I will link up to this cute post. I'm not having any luck coming up with any decorating posts this week.

  28. Hi, Kim - I use the same sunscreen - and am now curious about Roc wrinkle stuff. I've got to do something about my aging face, soon!

  29. Great list. I have also used the lash builder product and I really think I see a difference. Now if they could just come up with something that would have the same effect on my hairline. That too is getting a bit thinner. Is the leg stuff a make up? or a vitamin K treatment? It looks interesting.

  30. You're a walking, traveling beauty shop and spa and good advice giver! Thanks for the tips.
I just have to have lip gloss and my dentist has his own brand and gives it away free so that's what I use..
    PITYFUL!!

  31. Would you believe that I have thick, long black eyelashes that are straight and will not keep a curl? I have contemplated an eye lash perm. Really there is such a thing, I just have got to get the nerve to go get one. Eyesight or curly eyelashes? Details...

  32. Pam, it is a cover up not a treatment.

  33. I have been wondering about that Neutrogena. I am going to have to try it now. I too have been reluctant b/c I break out easily too. Cetaphil now makes a 50 (it made my list) and it doesn't make me break out. I use it daily. But it is good to have options. Thank you!
