Another Score

7.30.2010

Good Friday everyone. I can't believe how fast this week buzzed by. I haven't even been to a flea market this week or thrifting. It has just been entirely too hot to go out unless absolutely necessary. I did score another great buy through ebay though. I stay nice and cool just browsing ebay for deals.

I got  a great deal on another demijohn to add to my growing collection.

As you can see this one has the label still in tact.

It even still has the cork.

And the handle is in perfect condition.

The seller said it dates back to the early sixties.

Bottle of white wine from Portugal. It measures sixteen inches tall from top to bottom. It is a very nice size.
Only problem it doesn't fit on the shelves in my great room so now I am on the hunt to where it will be
placed. I will show you where when I figure it out. The price of this latest treasure was only $17. I can't believe it either for those of you who know how expensive these run.

I sure hope everyone has a great weekend. I have so much catching up to do on ironing of all things. I just love the thought of holding a device that produces steam when it is 100 degrees outside, but I am running out of clothes to wear.
I sure hope you find something fun to do and I will just imagine I am doing something fun, too.

Y'all come back now,

KIM

  4. I love it Kim! My belief is that sometimes a new item just has to be in the house for a bit before it chooses the perfect place to be. With your great sense of style it will be a perfect spot!! Enjoy and stay cool. It's really hot here too.

  5. Nice buy! I remember when we use to left candles drip on them (telling my age). :)
Heat index was 106 couple of hours ago - don't want to know what it is now. Need to raid the fridge for lunch, cause I am not going out in this heat. No relief in sight!
    Have a great weekend.

  11. I like this one with the label. Funny, I didn't even know what these were called or that they existed...this week I saw new ones in the Ballard Catalog (I think) and I was so pleased that I knew the name:) Blogging is educational! I'm glad someone else still irons. I try to iron on Tuesdays...then I never have too much to do at once.

  19. Kim-I just wanted to pop back in and thank you for visiting my blog...oh...and I am one of THOSE...I like to iron. Actually, I think it is the outcome of the ironing I like-not the actual act itself. lol Have a great weekend! Diana

  21. Oh, my ironing days are over for clothing. If it looks like it's something I might have to iron, I don't buy it. My husband takes most of his things to the dry cleaners. So it's wash and dry for me! I love your new find!

  36. Very nice Kim, and what a great deal! I am not seeing any of those around here! Did you notice they had several of those in the Georgia design house in the bar area. You can't see it in the photos I shared but in the magazine and online it shows them displayed on the top of the wine glass shelves. I am sure you will find a fabulous way to display yours, you always do!

  38. That was a great deal. I had a collection of these and when I moved in the 1990's, I gave them away. Are you beleiving I did that. What was I thinking. Well many more collections have taken their place.

  43. Hi Kim, after just saying I regretted not buying that one at the estate sale, I find one at a yard sale. Not as nicely shaped as your. It's 17 inches tall and the label looks to be Greek. It also has a tag hanging from the handle which I haven't a clue what it says! For $2 I couldn't pass it up. Any way to tell the age of these? I don't know much about them.
