Cows and Chickens and Vintage Finds, Oh My

7.19.2010

It is time for tabletop Tuesday and nifty thrifty Tuesday again at Marty's and Linda's. I have been quite lucky lately finding some good deals on the vintage demijohns that I have been wanting to collect. The price of these old wine bottles are all over the place. I have seen several in the flea market/antique shops and on ebay as high as $535. which I will not pay. I really want to pay a lot less than that so I have been enjoying the thrill of the hunt.

Meet my newest demijohn and my favorite so far. Found this on ebay and it is in really good shape.

I love that this one has a rubber wrap on the neck. It is the first one I have seen like this.
It wasn't a huge bargain like the big one I got for $20, but someone bid against me on
this one and I don't like to lose so I was the winning bidder at $60. Still a pretty good price for
one of these.

Here is how it looks in my bookcase in the great room.

Here are two others that are displayed here along with my rooster tray that I have had for a while.

This vintage shoe form from the flea market sits upon my stack of design books.

Mix of design books and some old books.

My mom gave me this framed rooster painting since she did not want it anymore.

I love this piece and how it adds to my Country French look I am going for.

This bull use to grace my foyer table, but now resides on the mantle.

I took the painting off the wall and decided I like it better leaning on the mantle.

Joining Tabletop Tuesday and Nifty Thrifty Tuesday. Please be sure and check these parties out.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Please don't miss out on my GIVEAWAY for a $50 gift certificate towards any Lisa Leonard jewelry designs.

Thanks so much for all the sweet comments about my future granddaughter's nursery and the response to the
giveaway, too.

Y'all come back now,

  15. Both your mantel and your bookcase look wonderful. You really do have such a wonderful way of mixing different elements together for such beautiful vignettes. Your new bottles are all wonderful. What a wonderful collection. I love your rooster tray and that tiny rooster picture. So cute. The cow and the bull are so french looking also. I have hunted forever for some figurines with the cows, they remind me so much of Charles Faudree. I see you are a fan of his too. Thanks so much for joining TTT. Beautiful. Hugs, Marty

  18. I love your bookcases. I have built ins on either side of my fireplace too. I am taken with your molding! I am thinking about redoing mine! I'm printing out a picture of your bookcase for inspiration. Great background color too!

I have never really know that those woven jugs are called demijohns and they are very distinct and add so much texture and substance to your bookcases. Beautifully arranged and so interesting!
You certainly do have Savy Southern Style!!!!!

  19. Hi Kim, I love your Demijohns. For some reason I am also attracted to them. I love the ones covered in the basketweave, the texture and shape are so appealing. Sorry I have not been around for a couple of days. I had to go out of town for an emergency, that turned out to be nothing too serious with my Mom, thank heavens for that. Happy Tuesday,Kathysue

  41. Oh Kim, I just love the demijohn's. you are right they are expensive and I have seen them all different prices as well. I cannot believe that someone else has a shoe form as well. My grandfather was a cobler in Italy, and my mom had given me one of his shoe forms, so it has some family history. I think my husband thought I was crazy for displaying it but it works in my family room. I love those built in book shelves they look wonderful. The necklace you won is absolutely stunning send some more pics when you get it. Have a wonderful day.

  45. I do think the thrill is in the hunt. I think that is why I rarely collect things anymore. Every time I did, people would start giving me whatever it was for every occasion and I ended up with many things that I didn't get to "find" myself. It took the fun out of it. I love the look you have accomplished.
