Red Recap

7.29.2010

This week in summer school in Miss Jenny's class it is time to showcase the color red. I was wondering what the heck was I going to do with the color red. I kept thinking and wondering.....JUST KIDDING! I have so much red around my house that it isn't even funny. Obviously I love red. I love it in my home, but I hardly ever wear it. That is strange isn't it?  I am just recapping some red photos from around the house.

We will just start upstairs in the guest rooms. This room has lots of red, but I will spare you and just
show a couple of things. Target lamp base and Pottery Barn red linen drum shade bought on ebay at two of them for $30. That was a bargain.

I love this sign I found at the flea market last year.

Red pillow from Home Goods in the other guest room.

The red sofa in my header that is in the sitting room.

The hutch that was my husband's late mother's that I repainted red.

red plate and my country French cow figurine

the shutters I painted a couple of months ago that were bought unfinished at a salvage yard.

same shutters placed outside to hide the grill

chair outside that I painted red this year

Red wicker chair that I painted last year and my red rooster lamp in the sunroom.

Lots of red in the sunroom.

PB pillows bought on sale or on ebay. I love their pillow covers, but never pay full price for them.

My flea market coke crate turned magazine holder.

Little red butter dish from Anthropologie

Red trim I added to my breakfast room chandy a few months ago.

apple print in breakfast room that I purchased at a flea market.

One of my lamps in the great room on the sofa table. Bought these for a steal at Progressive Lighting for only $29.95 a piece. I could not believe it.

My favorite country French style lamp in this luscious brick red glaze.

vintage red books from the flea market.

Red sunflower lamp from Home Goods. I added the trim to the bottom of the shade.

My vintage enamelware coffee pot and my red checked drapes in the background.

I am sure I have more, but you are probably already saying enough already. Please stop! I was sharing where I bought some of the things and the price to show that you can have a nice home without spending a fortune which is what I am trying to show with my blog.
This post made me realize how much painting, crafting, and thrifting I have done since starting this blog. That is because I have found so much inspiration from all of you.

Please visit all the lovely red posts this week at Miss Jenny's.

I cannot thank you enough for all of the sweetest comments regarding the changing table that we refinished in my last post. I am looking forward to seeing it in the nursery and will share it with you soon.

Y'all come back now,

KIM

  3. Gosh, you have so much pretty red! Love that PB lamp base. That thing has been staring at me in ads when I surf the net. Funny how they can target ads like that. That was the first pic in your post and it showed up in my reader and I had to click on it and see what you did with that lamp. LOL Beautiful all of it!

  4. Yes you do have lots of reds! But they are wonderful reds! You have inspired me to look more at reds things even though it is definately not my first choice of colors in decor. I especially love your red plaid curtains and that red hutch is to die for! I am sorry I missed your baby changing table post, can't wait to go check it out next!

  6. Oh I love your red. All of your pretty red accents are just gorgeous. Love your lamps and your jars and the touches of red in the pillows and furniture pieces are just fabulous. You know how much I love your home.

I was so excited when I read your comment about adding something to the drapes in my family room with all the changes I am making. Give me some ideas. I think I have looked at them so long I can't think. I do have a gold plaid that coordinates beautifully with the fabric of the drapes and had thought about adding a band at the top of each panel and maybe some fringe, however, that would still be in the same color family. Ok, I am open for suggestions. Hope you have some great ideas. Hugs, Marty

Now I need to check the changing table. Somehow I missed that!

  10. I love all your red! Your cow is adorable. An acquaintance of mine loves red, but what she has done to her house is way too much and very overpowering. Yours is warm and inviting.

You did a fantastic job on the changing table. Love the history it holds.

  18. I'm a red lover too! Couch, chairs, lampshades. My husband always thinks Target was nuts with their red buggies. He says it just makes everyone see red and get mad and be mean at Target.

  20. Kim, your "red" makes me realize I need to add more of it around my home. Like you, I never wear red, but I do love it as an accent color around the house. I bet your friends love coming over to your house for a visit! By the way, the changing table is beautiful! I'm sure your daughter is overjoyed with it.

  22. Enjoyed seeing all your reds! I think the only red I have on display right now is a urn of faux plums & an amaryllis in the LR window. I know - the amaryllis should have been replaced after the holidays - I am just slow. :-D
    Have a great weekend.

  23. Love all of your red. Wish I could do more reds, but I'm working on it. I have lots of browns but finding out that red and green both look good with it. Teaching an old dog new tricks!
Also like your cloche on the stack of books. Great ideas here!

This Old House is the first house I've used red in for decorating and I have fallen in LOVE with the color.

I'm still coveting the coke crate, and I love your MIL's hutch.
