More Old Goodies

8.21.2010

I made it to a couple of flea markets earlier this week and found a few new or rather old things.

Look at this most cutest old apron.

The date is 1966 as you can see which means I was 11 that year. I wish I could fine a 1955 one.

This is another vintage apron I found in the same booth. I love the colors of this one.

I love the way the ric rac was added as a divider. The two aprons were $5 a piece.

I think I need more hooks.

Then I found these very old kitchen utensils in the prettiest green. I love the green ones and the red ones that I have seen at several flea markets. This was the first time I found scoops.

These old utensils remind me of my maternal grandmother. She had a drawer full of these green and red handled utensils. Just look at how much they have been used.

The smaller scoop is in my sugar canister.

And the bigger one is in this container
with my other stuff.

Also got this chair for $34 at the flea market. It is old and solid maple with a bad varnish job, but it won't stay that way long.

I am linking to the following parties:
Debbiedoos for garagesalen
Southern Hospitality for Thrifty Treasures
Coastal Charm for Nifty Thrifty Tuesdays

Now I need to finish putting together the favors for the shower tomorrow.

Y'all come back now,

KIM

  2. Kim, I graduated from high school in 66. You're just a young thing! Love your flea market finds. The green scoops are wonderful kitchen treasures. I, too, remember the green or red handled utentials. I had some of these, but no longer. Not sure when they went missing. Can't wait to see what you do with the chair. That was a super find! ~ Sarah

  6. The aprons are adorable! My G-Mom-B got a new cloth calendar every year and hung it on the door to the basement! It became a dish towel when the year was over. Also, That rick-rack is amazing!

  7. Oh Kim!!! I love the apron! That was the year I was born!! I haven't ever seen aprons with calenders on them!! How cool!

Can't wait to see what you come up with on the chair! I have a rocking chair from Kenny's grandma and just not sure what to do with it. So I am now waiting on you!!

Thanks for the comments on the furniture. I want to get the desk chair upholstered and put some poly on the desk yet. I figured the desk will get some abuse so I would put poly on it instead of the wax.

It has been to make things over for others. I never had a girl so the desk has been fun for me!

  13. Hi Kim,
Yikes! That old apron came out the year I graduated from high school. Hope you find the 1955 apron.
The chair matches the set that my parents bought in about 1954 or '55. I have it now. At least it is the same design. The table and hutch have both held up very well as they are in my breakfast nook now... and I'm actually sitting at the table now.
    You've made some great purchases.

  26. Okay Kim...this was just a ploy to see how many of us old broads would respond, wasn't it? LOL I graduated in 1966 too...but I skipped a grade and was the youngest in my class...still not sure how old I am?

Anyway...I have seen tons of those old towels around but never one made into an apron. My grandmother always had one of those and when the year passed she would use it for a dish towel. They held up for years and years.

What I really am coveting though...is the red & white apron on the far right hand hook. Oooohhh...I WANT that one! It matches some of the dishes I have started collecting (Lordy..please don't tell Mr. You-know-who that I am collecting more dishes again, okay? It's a secret.

Well, off to bed for me here soon-I am working again tomorrow and covering for another person plus my own work...oughta be a great day..uh-huh! Diana

  27. The apron is not made from a towel. It is a very thin worn out cotton.

  33. I caught a glimpse of your kitchen floor in one of the photos. Beautiful wood! I wish I had wood floors in my kitchen - I really do NOT like ceramic tile. If I had my choice, I would put cork and wood through out my entire house with just area rugs.

  34. Great finds! I have been looking for a 1953 calendar.

  35. What a fun apron purchase! I see those cute little 50's and 60's aprons all the time. But I need a full coverage apron- I am such a messy cook- I always drip down the front of my shirt!
I guess I could always buy the cute ones like yours anyway and just display them. LOL - We all know that I NEVER purchase anything I won't ever use- yeah, right...
    hugs, Sue

  42. Hi Kim,

Love your aprons and pretty scoops. I have a scoop like yours in red. I have a kitchen shelf with all the vintage stuff on it. I used screws underneaath the shelf to hang utensils. I might consider some of those big glass canisters like you have, and actually use the scoop. thanks for sharing.
