Breakfast Room Wall

9.26.2010

When my mom and sister and I got together a couple of weeks ago we played around with the wall in my breakfast room. I had received my herb boxes that I ordered and had planned on hanging them on this wall. We tried several different configurations, but they just didn't work. Also the ways that did work would have been in the way of Mr. Savvy's chair since they stuck out too far.

This is how the wall looked before we started messing with it.

This is the new look that my sister came up with. We took out the apple painting which I love and used this small canvas
that I already had from Hobby Lobby. I think this look is more cohesive since each element has black and white.
The apple painting found a new spot and I will share that soon.

It took me a while to get used to the new look, but now I love it.

Does it take you a while to have a new look grow on you? I think I get so used to a certain look and then when it changes it has to grow on me.

I thought you might get a kick out of how it looked a couple of years ago.

Then to this. I liked this look, too, but am loving the new look for now.

Linking to Metamorphosis Monday at Between Naps on the Porch.

Hope your Monday is a good one. We are receiving some much needed rain. Yay!

Y'all come back now,

KIM

I have been working on the kitchen cabinet all weekend  and that reveal will come later. Still have some more to do.

  5. It looks great. It does take me awhile to get used to a new look also. I like to change things up all the time though. Just me.

  6. Kim I love the way you display all of your roosters, it is always fun to see them displayed in your home. I really like the black and white print that you put in place of the apple print, Kathysue

  7. sometimes it takes me a while to get used to a change and other times I just plain love it. Usually if it takes me a while to get used to the change then there is really something in the change that is bothering me.

I love your checked curtains--so happy and homey!

  8. All of your different vignettes have looked wonderful. This one is pretty too. Sometimes I do something and it just hits me and I think it is perfect right away, then other times, I play with it for days before I like it. Hope you enjoy the rain. We could sure use some. Hugs, Marty

  9. I really like the new look! I am one that gets use to things being a certain way and don't make changes very often. Then all of a sudden I do to do a major overhaul.
    Have a great week.

  10. Your breakfast room is right up there with my absolute favorite rooms. I always love it before you change it but then I love the new changes, too. I'm with you, most things have to grow on me a while. Patty

btw...I moved over to Typepad, come stop by.

  11. took me no time at all to love it. I like it better, with the black, white and red theme running thru each element.
Of course you have such good taste, any design you come up with would look great.

  17. Kim, Look what can happen when 2 gerat and creative minds get together. I love the new look. It is so easy on the eye!
I have nothing but blank walls since we repainted. It does take me quite awhile to figure out what I want on my walls... especially since I have totally changed color and decor.
Hope my walls look at lovely as yours when I'm done.

  20. Love the wall. Loved it before and love it even more now. Isn't it fun to decorate with gals? I love getting opinions other than Hubbys.

  21. Is the new print blue or black? For some reason it looks blue on my computer but I love it. I also love the rooster print. I'm sure you got it at a store we do not have around here! We also are getting some much needed rain here in Va.

  22. I like the changes, the scale really balances out the wall, it was a tad top heavy before, but now it is more pleasing to the eye. I know what you mean though, the black and white clock and the black and white print with a colored print below, it is not usual for Kim.... But it does look great, so good job sister!

  23. I like the new arrangement, Kim! I really love the rooster painting.

  24. Your sister has an eye for style and balance too -see that is my problem I could look and look all day and not have figured a new way to hang items on the wall. I love the rooster picture

  25. Wow Kim, it just looks fantastic! I just really love the new look, it's so charming! That rooster is just awesome on the wall!

  26. I love the newer look... AND compared to what the whole room looked like a couple of years ago, with the black chairs... I really love the more current look! That dinning room set is perfect, in my opinion! :)

  27. Hey Kim!

I love the new look...and I don't think the old one was top heavy, really...I think it was just a different "balance"...and it did balance (at least to my eye).

It was fun to see the old picture from a couple of years ago. It was cute but I think what you have now a more sophisticated look. I have loved all of them so far.

It always take me a while for things to "grab" me. Especially when changing furniture around. It will either look too big...or dinky to me until my eye gets used to seeing it there.

I'd say you gals did good. What's the matter- Mr. Savvy doesn't like boxes poking him in the back? He's no fun! Hugs- Diana

Of course, I love the french country decor style...and all of your beautiful color choices! Well...then there is your fabulous french table and chairs! Hehe! I could go on and on! 39. It looked good in every picture. I had to go back a few times and re read to see which one was the new one because they all looked so nice. Your sister was right though. The black in the new print does pull it all together in a different way.

  40. Looks good, toots! Like the balance and the new B/W print. I'm always changing things out, much as you are. It's fun to have new looks, but sometimes, it can take a few tries before I get things exactly the way I think they need to be.

  45. It's all so pretty! I will admit to loving that red cabinet, wherever you place it.

It takes me a while to get used to new looks, but while I'm getting used to them, I keep tweaking them until I feel a sense of calm when I look at them.

  46. Love the new look ... the "before" was beautiful, too! It all balances really well (I like odd numbers when it comes to decorating) and is a great mix of colors! And, YES, I will stand up and *testify* about how many times I'll do something, thinking "that's IT," only to realize that it's really not! LOL. *Becca*

  52. Love love love Kim! It looks gorgeous! I liked all of the other looks too...but I think this is my favorite...for now;)!

I hate change...I usually get things the way I like them and leave them forever! I am in the process of changing some things in my dining room and it is freaking me out! I move it...move it back...move it...move it back! I think I have moved it around 100 times! We'll see how it ends up!

I love popping in over here and seeing all of the changes you are making...it really inspires me! Maybe I will become a changeaholic too;)!

    Enjoy!

  56. Hi Kim,
Love, love, love this space and the wall looks awesome. I believe that as your tastes change your space changes too, but as long as it's always decorated with the things you love it will always look perfect. Love the red and green...my favorite decorating colors too plus always with a punch of black.

    Hugs and Kisses,
    ♥Ana

  57. Your room looked great in the before as well as the after. I really like the big clock.

When I move things around, it takes a little getting used to for me also Kim. I move more paintings than actual furniture. I find by moving paintings, I get a chance to see them in a whole different light.

I look forward to meeting you at Penny's get-together in Asheville in October. See you soon!

  58. I do like it, Kim! There is something about that black and white print. Maybe the way it works with the black and white of the clock.

Sometimes it does take me awhile, but most of the time I know I like something right away. If it takes me more than 3 days and I'm still not "feeling it", it comes down and I try something else.

  61. Hello Kim,

I thought it looked good before but I also like it now. Great balance! Sometimes it takes me a while to adjust to a new look but other times it is instantaneous.

If you ever get tired of the rooster canvas art, please do not hesitate to send it my way! I love that picture!

I always love "visiting" your home. It is so warm and welcoming. It is amazing that any of your guests ever leave!
