The Red is Back......

9.19.2010

.......for the cooler seasons. I have removed the loose fit PB slips and now the red sofa and chair is back. What a difference this small change makes to this room. I love the warmth of this brick red color. Now if only the weather would cooperate and feel like fall. When it gets colder I will add throws and put the fireplace screen back on the fireplace and put logs in a basket. Just easy changes to make a room feel warm and cozy. If you want to see the before go HERE.

This shot was taken from the stairs.

I know some of you saw these red sofas a few months back before I slipcovered them, but a lot of you have not seen them.

The sofa and the chairs in here are made by Sherril. This was a splurge purchase on 9-13-2001. I remember this date well because it was two days after 9-11. I think different people handled the horrific disaster that had just taken place in different ways. Mine was shopping and I found this after labor day sale still going. I fell in love with this very comfy red chenille sofa and chair.

I love the colors and pattern of this fabric.

Of course there was a catch to this new furniture purchase. The man had to have a leather
recliner. Oh, how I did not want that, but this one was o.k. with this pretty leather color and the nail head trim.

I have changed this room around so many times trying to find the best layout so he could use that stupid chair and see his precious t.v.

Changed a couple of pillows out on the bench.

Another arrangement I threw together.

This hasn't changed too much.

I just added some seed pods on top.

I am joining these parties:

Thank you so much for all the very sweet comments this weekend. I hope to visit all your blogs as soon as I can. Just know that I do read and appreciate each one.
Have a super week!

Y'all come back now,

KIM

  3. SO funny Kim...the other day I noticed the red couch ever so slightly in the one vignette...and I thought oh Kim removed the slip covers. It is nice to have that option, as both ways are so pretty.

  6. Kim....Oh how I've always wanted a red sofa. Maybe someday! Your room is beautiful, as always. Also, wanted to say your grand-girls are just PRECIOUS. Thanks for sharing the pics and I'm sure you enjoyed every minute of their visit. Can't wait to read about the shower.

  7. You're such an inspiration! I'm going to seriously think about ways to seasonally change my rooms, other than small accesosries (i.e. slipcovers), and start working toward it. I do take up oriental rugs in the spring and summer and replace them with jute ones. That in itself makes a big difference.

  8. I love those pillows with the red sofa. It's still so hot here that I'm not thinking about fall at all yet. But come October 1..it will be on. It's always hot here till the very end of September. So I kind of just miss any fall decorating and go straight to Halloween.

  9. Kim- I love your brick red sofa...when I think of red furniture I ususally think of Lipstick Red!:>) I gave my son two down filled bright red chairs in perfect shape that I picked up for next to nothing. He was thrilled.

I like the room both ways...light for the summer and warmed up for the Fall/Winter Season. I went back to the other post you referenced and then back to another post you had referenced there-lol The house is lovely, really lovely. And, if I could pick one thing to snatch and run with? It would be the picture of the Gypsy Man. What a neat old oil painting...wouldn't you love to know the history behind that?

You have a wonderful eye for pulling things together.

Oh, and BTW, we have always had one of THOSE chairs too...and my daughter's hubby has ONE OF THOSE chairs also!- It's a man thing!

Have a great night-thanks for the lovely tour! Hugs-Diana

  10. Looks beautiful Kim.

It was pretty gloomy here all day, so I spent most of the time cozying up the living room.

  19. You have such a cozy home, and I like the option you have of changing out your slipcover to the red for fall and Christmas. The red pieces are lovely, but I'm in love with the leather recliner. The four of us would be fighting over who got to sit in that beauty.

The timing of this post is amazing since I was just looking around my living room a little while ago thinking I needed to add more texture and make it cozier for fall!!! You should feel lucky that your man only requested one chair...mine has a whole room full of leather furniture along with a mongo tv.LOL

  29. Love the red couch, all your pillows and your patterned chair. Your room is simply awesome! When my hubby and I married, he came with a maroon leather recliner. It was a happy day when it "sprung a spring" (the chair that is...just wanted to clarify) and had to be put on the curb!

  32. Kim, I don't know which one I like better...the white couch or the red! I love that you changed them for summer into fall...so lovely! Your home looks so wonderful and welcoming! I sent you another e-mail with info about the rattan cake stand. Just checking to see if you got it. I bought mine at a store in Charlotte, NC and paid about $20 less than the one at http://www.rshcatalog.com/. The one I have is a medium size. It is a bit high and the store in Charlotte had more a couple of weeks ago. They might would ship you one! I am sorry if you didn't get the last e-mail. I hope you got it, because gave store info. to call or check website...let me know, if not and I will just post store info on your blog. Thanks so much! Christie at Three Pixie Lane

  47. Hey Kim ... your great room looks beautiful, as always, with the return of the reds (especially this time of the year). I like how you've changed your pillows around, as well. Men and their recliners ... they really do interfere with our decorating, don't they ?! Actually, I love your husband's beautiful leather chair. My husband ... not so fortunate ... I *retiired* his recliner a couple of years ago. Poor guy. Thanks for sharing your beautiful room ... you're all ready for Fall !!

  71. Warm and wonderful room. I noticed your Yorkie in your blog header. I have a Yorkie, too, Little Charlie Dickens. Dickens, a fiesty 4 pounder, came to live with me on 9.8.01. Just like your red couches, he will always be a part of my memories of 9.11. I really like your lovely carved bench. Great looking piece! If you hadn't told me, I probably wouldn't have known that the leather chair was a recliner. You got really lucky with that one. Thank you for sharing your charming design. Cherry Kay

  76. Hi Kim,

I just hopped over from Marty's. Love your blog! You living room looks so pretty both ways. Love the coziness of the red and warmer colors. I know what you mean about the chair thing. I have one of those too, and it just broke about a week ago. Guess we will have to go buy another one. Uggg!

  78. I love the red couch and chair with the rest of your room! Definitely have given me some ideas for my own home. I, too, have purchased red couches on a whim and am currently stuck with a bright green living room. I'm still going through my "I'm broke post college phase" for decorating, so for right now it's Christmas all year round in my house. =)

  79. I just love these colors - so warm, cozy and inviting. You did a great job finding a compromise leather chair. I love using red in the autumn and winter with my cream sofa and black chair. I would love to be brave enough to get a red sofa one day! :)

  80. This is the first time I have read your blog and I love it! Love the warm color of your red sofa. It looks like the color am I looking for to paint a guest bedroom. Do you have a paint color suggestion? I'm having a hard time finding the right one - not too pink or bright, but more of a dark red. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Pat, thanks for stopping in. I really don't ever paint walls red so I don't know of a good red wall color. Red is hard to work with and hard to paint over old wall color. Most reds will be pink when you first paint it on and then dry red. I was shocked when I painted my hutch red. It was going on very pink, but it did turn red quickly. It also can take many coats to cover correctly. The best thing to do is use a gray primer first.
