Replace This with That

9.15.2010

When I was on the airplane going out of town a couple of weeks ago I was using my laptop and was emailed a sale going on. Of course I had to open it up and take a look. There were the herb crates like Layla has on the Lettered Cottage blog. I have always wanted some of those so I hit the order button not even being sure of where the heck I would hang them. I am really bad about doing things like that.

Well, they came in yesterday and then I had to figure out where they were going. My mom and sister were here, after our day out together, and I asked for their input of where to hang them. You should have seen us taking things down off my breakfast room wall and trying to figure out where the new boxes were going and where the stuff I took down was now going. I know y'all do the same thing. Don't laugh. We took stuff down and put it back and then placed things on the floor to see it grouped together. We didn't like this and that and then we finally figured out a new arrangement for my breakfast room wall, but without the new boxes. I was still left with herb boxes and no where to hang them. I finally found two different spots for three of the four boxes.

This is the before of a narrow wall in my sun room.

After: this is where two of them ended up.

This is where the largest one is.

I placed the platter to my new dishes in the box with a boxwood topiary.

This is the new wall arrangement we came up with. The apple painting I had here has moved and I will show you where later. With the sun setting much earlier it is really changing the way the light pours in.
I love this wall much better now. Thanks Mom and Kelly.

Y'all come back now,

  1. I have always loved those herb crates, I love the way you have them displayed. That was a good choice to put above the fridge - I like how the wood looks against the cabinet. I just love seeing what you do when you get something new.....and what a great day with your Mom & Sister!

  11. I love the changes we made yesterday. What fun that was! I guess sometimes 3 heads are better than 1 huh? Ha! I am glad you ended up finding a place for your herb crates. They have such personality and look like they came from an antique store. The pillows I bought, while we shopped yesterday, turned out great for me too! Yay! I don't have to take them back. All in all it was a successful day.

  15. Your little wall looks great. I love all the rooms of your house I've seen. It's so well done. Where did you put the rooster? He's a beauty! I have to ask what airline did you fly that you were allowed to get on the internet? My husband works for United and we just flew to Atlantic City and you can use a laptop but no internet or cell phone use. It would be a lot less boring if I could get on the internet! Have a lovely day!

  38. The sun setting earlier does make a difference lately. Plus this year, we had a tree that hit a point where it blocked a little more of the afternoon sun at the back of ourhouse than in previous years. Anyway, Kim, I love your new boxes and I like the large one on top of your refrigerator. Your cabinets are great ~ I love the look and the color. They are on my wish list for the next house {when we down-size}. : )

You know the funniest part about this story? Uh...didn't you go to Vegas WITH your hubby? And you are ordering things sitting right beside him....and he was clueless? Yeah...I'm liking THAT! lol Diana

They look great on the wall AND on the fridge! AND the toile on the bathroom stool, stunning! That is one of my favorite fabrics.
