The Kitchen

10.12.2010

Thanks so much for stopping by. I knew you were coming so I have been cleaning, polishing, mopping and sprucing up. Don't you do that when company is coming. Well, you are company so I have been working my little fingers off. Welcome to the heart of the home!
My kitchen did not look like this at all when we built our house, but a few years ago we transformed it to looking closer to my dream kitchen. Thank goodness our style and taste changes over time. I now would do a couple of things differently, but in this economy it is staying like it is.

My cabinets were all white when we built our house and the counters were white corian with blue edges. I would love to have a recessed fridge, but we didn't change the original layout. This was just a low budget remodel.

There was no backsplash just wallpapered walls.
Mr. Savvy and I tiled the backsplash.

The floors were white linoleum. The one thing I wish I had thought when we changed the
cabinet fronts and color is having a panel built for the dishwasher. Maybe some day.

Mr. Savvy added the trim to the hood.

I love my hardware. It is the Normandy collection by Top Knobs.

Nice deep black granite sink.

I recovered the bar stools just a few months ago. They were just a tan corduroy.

I put my dish washing liquid in the cruet so I don't have to drag out the huge bottle.

My favorite hand soap.

I love having the black on the island.

Thank you so much for coming by.
Linking to Note Songs for the Heart of the Home party.
Thank you Sheila for being a gracious hostess.
Be sure and pop in and visit all the other wonderful kitchens. It's party time!

Y'all come back now,

KIM

Wall color: Rosemary Sprig by Benjamin Moore paints
Flooring: Armstrong Hartco Santos Mahogany four inch prefinished planks

I didn't know you did the tile back splash yourself, that's excellent! You did a very professional job. Love your granite also. I would love that on the rest of my countertops. 37. Oh it is just beautiful...I would love a kitchen like that. One thing I really wish I had was a sink that was not divided. I guess the only reason we have divided sinks is for hand washing, but we don't do much of that anymore with the dishwasher. I would love the room.

  44. As always perfection! I just love your backsplash!

  45. Kim- I love your kitchen! It is absolutely gorgeous. You really have a good eye for putting everything together and it shows up in the overall scheme. That pop of red on the pot holder is fantastic. I thought it was nice before but when you see it paired with the other reds in your kitchen...well...there was no other color choice, was there?

I love that rug-I saw one similar to that in one of my ad mags but can't remember where. It has all your colors in it and all the red and yellow and warmth always just feels so Southern to me. I can see your heart in your home!

How nice that Mr.Savvy is handy! MyHero-not so much. He would rather earn the money and pay someone to do it to save us all the frustration of his handy-work. lol

I am not a big cook anymore for just the two of us. However, I DO like putting on meals for crowds...and big family get togethers...it's just the day-to-day cooking that I don't do so much anymore.

We share the same hand soap favorite. My naughty daughter-in-law got me started on it. I now use the hand lotion too and have it at my desk. My little SweetCheeks heads for the hand lotion right after she checks her hidey-hole. She would use the whole bottle up in one day if I didn't keep guard. As it is she walks around smelling her hands (and her arms) all day. The hospital where I work sells it in their gift shop so I get an employee discount on it.

Okay-I better get off of here before you-know-who starts complaining;>) Hugs-Diana

I love your kitchen...it's just gorgeous. Would you consider sharing what it cost you to add the granite? We're considering redoing ours and would like a ballpark idea.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Jeanna, I believe it was around $4,000. We had it done six or seven years ago. I think granite has really not increased though due to the lack of building with the economy.

  73. Kim, your kitchen is so beautiful! I love the makeover and particularly the black island! I see the little wicker stand with the cookbooks fits just perfect in it's space!
