My New Stuff

10.22.2010

I showed you where I shopped last weekend and now I will show you what I bought. I told you I was in demijohn heaven. I could not believe the number of bottles that were in several of the antique malls we shopped in. They are hard to find here and cost a lot more.

I bought all three of these large ones. The one on the left was in the pictures of my last post.  It was only $65 which I thought was a really good deal for one this big and in very good shape.

I was glad to  find the large green one without the wicker, too. This one was $65, too.

The one in the middle was a REALLY good buy. One of the other bloggers that was shopping spied this one and came and found me and took me to it. Thank you Diane for showing it to me.
I was afraid to look at the tag since I only had $35 left in my pocket. I turned the tag over and guess what, it was $35. I got 10% off for paying with cash so that covered the tax. It was meant to be!

Now they are on top of my bookcase in the great room.

I had put this little box upstairs in my hoarding bonus room, but brought it back down.
I bought this at a little local shop that went out of business. Nell Hill carries these on her website, too.

View from the kitchen sink.

Thank you for taking a look.

  24. What great finds. I remember years ago when NO one wanted them...and NOW look at them. We used to put candles in them and let them drip down over the woven covering...the more wax the better. Guess that must have been my inner hippie coming out-lol

They are the perfect topper for your built in. Like a top hat on a well-dressed gentleman. Lovely.

I hope Leila is home and doing well. Hugs to you- Diana

  35. Your last few post about your trip to Ashville have been so interesting. My sister and I live about an hour from Ashville, but don't go as often as we should. You've made me want to plan a day out. I can't wait to go to the Screendoor.

  42. Until you last posted about the demijohn's you bought, my world was quite happy and oblivious to them. But after seeing these beautiful jugs wrapped in basket material (and I LOVE all things basket) I am now on the lookout for them.
Seeing what you've done with them now makes me sorta lust them! I just repainted my family room and I am looking for something to put above my built-in's on either side of my fireplace.... can you guess what you started? I am crazy about the way these beauties look in your great room. They are in the perfect place for height and interest.

It is so nice to see your gorgeous and tastefully appointed great room. I recognize the sofa table. Lovely!!!!
I get the best ideas stopping by! You have a great eye for style, my friend!

  44. Weren't we fortunate to find treasures we loved in Asheville? The demijohns are perfect there - I'm kicking myself for not buying the one I loved at the ScreenDoor - it was in an iron basket complete with patina to die for!!!

Congratulations on Leila's arrival - just saw the pics in the new post, she's a little princess!

Lovely meeting you - fabulous day!

  49. As a child I saw my grandparents store their wine in these huge demijohns, I never gave them a second thought. They were simply a functional item. In the late summer days my grandma used to fill one of these - it had to be a clear one - with sour cherries, cover them with sugar and leave them in the sun for a couple of days. At the end she would add some vodka to the syrup. That would make the best cordial you can imagine! She would serve it as aperitive at our family gatherings. Looking at them now they bring up memories of forgotten times, happy childhood, the smell of fruit and my grandma's voice. Thanks for posting this. Very romantic indeed...
