Shutters

10.24.2010

Most of you have seen my shutters before, but Funky Junk Interiors  Saturday Nite Special party's theme this week is shutters and how they are used in different ways.

These shutters were bought unfinished from a salvage warehouse several years ago. We got the four for twenty dollars and they were dirty and covered in webs. I cleaned them and Mr. Savvy hinged the four together to form this screen. I then painted and distressed them. They stayed this way for a few years.

Then a few months ago I painted them red.

I showed how I can even move them outside to the deck if needed.

Now I have this painting leaning against them.

They just make the perfect prop and backdrop for the apple painting.

I have plantation shutters in my dining room. This is an older photo.
I have loved plantation shutters for as long as I can remember and I have them in the master bedroom, dining room and living room.

I love old shutters with the paint peeling and several different layers of colors showing that I have seen at flea markets and antique stores. I just wish I knew where to use them in my house. I have more windows than walls.

Y'all come back now,

Kim

  9. Well-I absolutely LOVE your shutters! And Plantation shutters have been on my I LOVE list since I was a girl. Yours looks great...and a perfect backdrop for that picture of apples.

I won't even tell you that I passed up a set of 3 for $5.00 because my daughter didn't want to screw around with working them into the SUV. I should've argued a bit more. I have kicked myself in the weeks since. Smiles to you- Diana

  12. I thought the shutters were great before you painted them; but, WOW, that red is wonderful! It just makes everything pop. I love red & yellow together & maybe some blue. Your home is so lovely.

  13. Oh, I love shutters! Love the panel. I think Hubby might be able to make me one.

I can't have shutters on my windows because of our gray winters. They would take up part of the light coming in the house. I regret even having blinds in some rooms. :( Light and sun are winter issues in Oregon. Lots of people here need and use special lighting to combat depression.

I love Oregon but I'd sure love shutters on my windows! Yours are gorgeous.

  16. I love shutters! Yours are beautiful.

I am working on a little shutter project over the weekend, in the laundry. These are small, purchased at a country antiques shop a couple months ago.

I saw a set of old shutters at a shop the other day. Not sure they are for sale. I have no idea what I would do with them, I just know I like them.

  22. Oh, I want a set of those shutters! I'll have to set The Great Dane on the search. I can think of lots of ways to use them too - especially to block off the view to the powder room door when we have a big crowd for dinner - I think it's always nicer to step in or out of the powder room in a bit of privacy. Weird, I know, but it's one of my quirks.

  26. I don't know how I missed your announcement about the new baby, but I just saw it today. Congratulations, she is just beautiful. My twin granddaughters (now age 11) were preemies & had the stork kisses. They were so tiny (2 1/2 & 3 1/2 lbs.) that it took quite a while for them to outgrow it, but they did. Enjoy your precious little bundle.
