A Bit Overwhelmed!!

11.29.2010

I love Christmas and love to watch the house transform, but the mess I can do without. I am feeling so stressed right now, but I know it will all come together and  be clean in a couple of days. I just thought I would share real life here. Oh, and it is also cold and raining so I am surprised these pictures came out.

Yes, come on in if you can wade through all the stuff in your way.

Coats on the floor? Don't ask.

Does anyone have any little elves you can send over to help?!!

Is there a messiest house linky party?!!

Focus Kim focus!

Y'all come back and hopefully the house will be clean.

KIM

Oh, and has anyone seen my nutcrackers? They will probably show up after Christmas!

  2. I can so relate to this! That is how mine looked for two weeks while working on the kitchen. I think that is why I don't want to drag out all the Christmas stuff now that the house is clean!!

I understand the feeling of being overwhelmed! Hang in there! It will be worth it when you are finally done!!

  3. I'm doing the exact same thing today! Ha! My house is a wreck and there is so much glitter on my floor that I will have to break out the vacumn cleaner now. I started mine yesterday and just finished the tree, mantel, staircase and dining room. I'm doing VERY LITTLE in my kitchen because I want to stay neutral and "burlappy" in there. Ha! So just some natural greenery is all I've added. My color scheme is aqua, brown, white, apple green and copper this year. No red! Cany you believe it?! My exterior decor will be very colorful though so all colors are welcome outside. Otherwise, you can't see it from the street. My lights on the staircase garland didn't work this year and I didn't discover it until I hung it, so I'm just going to leave it. Oh well. I'll change them out next year. I'm trying not to sweat the small stuff. Can't wait to see pics of your decor when you're all done!

  7. Kim, you are saying what I am feeling!! Seems you get to a point you can't even move around!! AAGGHHH!!!

I try to be organized. I was having trouble sleeping last night over it! So this am I got the kitchen all done and clean, so I can leave the dining room and living room and go in the kitchen to debrief!!

    good luck!

  8. This looks like our living room and hearth room right now. I managed to do a little bit of decorating downstairs today, for Layla's party tomorrow, but that's all I've accomplished today. Did part of the back porch yesterday. It is now getting chilly and nothing much done outside yet.

I do have all the fireplaces finished as of today. I didn't think I would even bother with the one in J's "room", but I got inspired.LOL

Maybe tomorrow I'll finish a few things. Right now, I'd just like to have a nap.:-)

It's cloudy here again today. I did not like my foyer tree photos at all. Way too dark, but it was overcast that day. Oh well.

  10. I'm right there with you Kim. My heater went out and the repairman had to step over my Christmas boxes. Hope he doesn't think it always looks like this! Can't wait to see it all together. Patty

  13. Yup, count me in on recognizing the chaos too. In fact I have black garbage bags like you sitting around the house and then too top it off I had to come into the office today so I'm half way between Christmas and my autumn decorations. Calgon take us ALL away.

  14. Thanks for reminding me why I'm not pulling all of my decor out this year. I just unpacked from a move and this brings back nightmares. lol But I did manage to put the tree up and spread a little cheer around the house. Good luck! Can't wait to see the finished product!

  15. Same thing going on here. This is the first time in many years that the tree was not up and decorated before Thanksgiving.
    Have a great week.

  19. I am right there with you! My whole hallway upstairs is lined with tubs! Uggghhhh!!! I love it when it is done, but hate taking it all down. December should be longer so we can enjoy it more!

  20. Oh my goodness...so happy I am not alone! Can't wait to see how you decorated for Christmas. You inspire me!

  21. Oh Kim I can SO relate!!!! It is so frustrating to try and be inspired to decorate and make everything pretty when all the clutter of bringing things in and taking things out is all around!! I need the elves over my way too!! lol! Can't wait to see your house all decked out~ I know it will be absolutely amazing! :)

  22. I get anxiety too Kim..the house feels so yucky and dirty, and all the work. But you know all worth it in the end...FOCUS! I was missing my nutcrackers too, I found them:)

  23. I am living vicariously through you as the Hubs wanted to *opt out* of Christmas this year for the 1st time in his life...I already miss the mess...so enjoy yours for me.

    ReplyDelete
  24. That would stress me out too but I know you will create miracles out of that clutter and I'm looking forward to the end product. Have a great day and don't forget to take a break and have a cup of tea.

  25. OMGosh! I am feeling the same way...I have dreaded dragging all those stinking boxes out and starting this year. I LOVE it when it is done...but the work of getting it there this year has been standing in my way.

Soo...right now I am bravely off to START my Xmas decorating. Wish me luck and if I'm not back in day-send an army of nutcrackers after me! Hugs- Diana

  26. I feel your pain. My house is so bad I wouldn't even look at a camera so I admire your bravery. My husband reminded me this morning that it isn't really December yet. I just glared at him!!!! hahah

  27. This is how my house looked Saturday night. I had big plans to do the tree, clean the house and get things wrapped on Saturday. Well, 1300 lights-each wired in place-later, I got the tree done and the area around it swept. I couldn't move and I couldn't stand the mess in my house. Yesterday I cleaned...today I will wrap. I think we push ourselves so hard, but it does come together. Take time for a cup of tea!

  28. LOL...havent' started the process of decorating....i'll be in your boat next weekend. just have thoughts that you will be so glad when it's over & decorated & you can enjoy your home makeover w/a cup of tea soon! When those little elves show up - please send them to my home next!

  29. You are not alone! Most of my decorations are out of the attic and are sitting in various rooms in the house...and I'm having trouble focusing and being motivated. Perhaps it all started when we got our tree out yesterday and had our kids over with their significant others putting it together...and after an hour could only get half the lights to work on the pre-lit tree. So out to the stores I run trying to get another one that isn't too big or too small...all while everyone is waiting for me at home. It all turned out...the tree is done, except for the real popcorn garland that I need to hang on it. But the rest of the house...disaster...I could use some elves as well.

  30. Stand back, deep breath and a sly smile - YOU ARE NOT ALONE Kim! Most homes will be like this as the decorations come out, mine CERTAINLY will :o)

  31. I feel your pain. This weekend my kitchen looked like 10,000 elves threw up in it!

    ReplyDelete
  32. My house was the same way this past weekend, I'm only just clearing things up today! I know your decor will look amazing once it's all out :)

  33. There are two ugly parts to Christmas...the mess of dragging it all out (along with quite a bit of that blown-in attic insulation) and the taking down of it all, when things look unnaturally bare. But your house still looks pretty great!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think you have just talked me out of dragging out my Christmas decorations and doing the house this year. It's SUCH a lot of work, isn't it?

  35. Can you imagine how I feel? Moving and Christmas at the same time? Make that two holidays in a row!

    I completely understand overwhelmed!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I am sooo feelin' ya! My house is the same. I was also trying to organize the garage at the same time, I have crap outside my front door as well as stuff that hasn't been put away yet - garage and house. Soooo glad that I am not alone in my agony!

  37. I've felt afraid to express my overwhelmness. Is that a word? It makes one sound so old and grumpy. But here I am this year. I've had company for a week at Thanksgiving, I prepared the entire meal, decorated my mother's home for Christmas, ordered all of my gifts online and our children are not coming home for Christmas, (but want us there) and now that I think of decorating our house, I feel like saying BAH HUMBUG. And add to that a cruise right after Christmas and I'm running on Empty.

So I decided to decorate a 5' tree, hang a wreath, put some live greenery for the mantle for a nice smell and declare it good.

I'm giving myself a pass this year, but it sure feels strange for someone who has always gone over the top for holidays. In fact, typing it makes me rethink the decision!

  38. Mine is starting to look better, but oh my, it was a mess. Now I need to get to the outside stuff...maybe tomorrow!!
    You will get there!!

  39. I'm so glad to know my house isn't the only one that's a wreck during Christmas decorating!

  40. Girl, you don't know how bad I needed that. Thanks for keeping it real Kim. Our house looks about the same way and we haven't even pulled out the Christmas boxes yet. I love the season too, but I love it more when everything is up and I can enjoy it.

  41. Haha! I am really sorry I missed this one this afternoon! I'll tell you my house was such a mess after getting the first tree done and then the mantle I had to force myself to just STOP and clean up before trying to get to next trees. I was feeling exactly like you, overwhelmed and stressed out by the mess. LOL! I still haven't done the dining room yet, took time out to go do a little shopping first. Now that I have a little retail therapy behind me I am ready to tackle the next trees.

  42. Kim I love that you keep it real. I am right there beside you sweetie. Mine is in the garage but , Oh my! run for your life. I tell my family if I am not back in 10min. come and look for me!!

  45. We're doing our Christmas decorating tomorrow. Glad I'm not the only one who makes a mess.

  46. LOL! Okay, I missed this one yesterday, so now things look like the next post. It ALWAYS gets worse before it gets better, in any project there is! I haven't worked up the courage to start dragging out the WORSE yet! LOL! If you find those elves, send them my way after you're done!

BTW, somehow I've missed seeing the chair in the first photo until now. Love it!

  47. Dang...that is why I can't decorate like that...my add would cause me to be overwhelmed and it would all sit there for a week or 2!

  48. That's what my house will look like on the weekend. I shudder when I think of all the rubbermaid boxes being hauled down from the attic!

  49. Hi Kim, My house looked a lot worse than this for two whole days! Now I just have glitter everywhere.
