Traditional Red and Green........ Boring to Better Party #4

12.01.2010

This year I was really struggling putting together my Christmas mantel. I also new I wanted to have it done by today so I could join Layla's party. I look forward to seeing all the other mantels this year. I started on mine and have changed it a couple of times before it felt right. I am only using what I already have this year.

I did a traditional red and green color scheme in this room with a bit of a vintage feel.
Sorry for the poor picture quality. We have had rain here for two days.

I love this vintage looking Santa sleigh and reindeer that I purchased two years ago in an antique shop after going on a holiday home tour. I have some eucalyptus garland tucked in and a string of lights.

I wasn't going to keep these humongous candlesticks on the mantel, but I like the added height they give my red cone trees.

The red cone trees are by Smith and Hawken and I got them on clearance at Target last year.

These electric candles by Raz were purchased at a gift shop a couple of years ago after the same home tour.

Love this vintage looking Santa face that I purchased several years ago.
He adorns the mirror this year.

Traditional red and green stockings purchased from Pottery Barn when they went on sale plus free shipping.

Added two vintage looking Santas on top of the stocking holders.

Cloudy and raining when I took these pictures and now it is just starting to get dark.

Love the glow at night.

Hope you enjoyed that. I am linking to  The Lettered Cottage for the Christmas mantel party. Be sure and pop over there and get some great ideas if you haven't started yours yet.
Joining Shabby Chic Cottage for Transformation Thursdays.

This is also my "Boring to Better" linky party post. I will have the link up tonight. Hope you will join me this week. Christmas decor is acceptable, too since that surely makes a home look even Better!!

  8. I do like your traditional Santa theme for your mantel, Kim. It says,"holidays," to me. I used my Santas in the kitchen this year. I know what you mean about the gloom and trying to take photos. It was pitch dark out last night when I finally starting taking pics. I had to go out to the garage for the work-light! LOL Oh- loved the photo of your chaos in the house. We are rivals for disaster.... What is it about this year????!!!
    hugs, Sue

  21. I love what you did with the mantle. Where did you get that mirror? I just love it!

    ReplyDelete
  22. How did you get the Santa to hang on the mirror like that? I had a Santa face like that and I never could find the perfect place for it so I gave it away! ;D

  23. Julie, I used a command strip that you can find at Walmart or Target. They come in different sizes and hold different weights and then you pull the strip at the bottom when you are ready to remove it and it just comes off very easily.

  24. Beautiful, such a warm and cozy feel to it. It puts me in the Christmas spirit.
Cool mirror, too. How did you attach Santa to it?

  27. Beautiful, Kim! The vintage Santa/sleigh are my fave. And, the Santa on your mirror is so unique. The lit candles are the perfect touch ... I'd love to see this all lit up at night. Thank you for your thoughtful note about my whimsical Christmas kitchen! And, for hosting your party and allowing me to share my great room mantel. Hugs, Becca

  28. It is lovely. And isn't it the pits when dark days make your photographing efforts so difficult. But your mantel came shining through anyway.

  29. Kim- It looks great- I love your old Vintage Santa...and I have a very similar Santa face that I bought many years ago. I will take a picture of it and post it when I get everything dragged out. I think the berry trees look great on top of your candlesticks...they give them great height.

I toyed with the idea of changing colors/things around this year...but I have had traditional deep reds & greens for a long time...so my Spode is the Christmas pattern and where do you go from there? So, once again, I will be filling my home with the deeper reds and greens of Christmas.

  30. Very pretty, Kim. I love the detail on the pieces, and on your great mirror too.

  77. I love those red cone trees on the candlesticks! They make your mantel. Isn't it funny how something you don't think you like will turn out to really make all of it come together?

I so look forward to shopping the Xmas stuff at Target after Xmas and getting all the things I wanted before Xmas - on sale. But I didn't think Target had very good things this year at all. Did you?

Well, they did but not like they have in year's past.
