Red, White and Blue at Christmas?

12.12.2010

I have been sprucing up the guest rooms for the holidays. I love to make the rooms feel warmer and cozier so you just want to crawl into the snugly bed for a long winter's nap.

I love these plaid flannel sheets from, of all places, Walmart.

I went into Walmart  to get some things and went by the bedding department and spied these flannel sheets. I was wanting to find either red gingham or a plaid and there they were. The perfect colors for this guest room and only $15 for the whole queen set!

I washed them and dried them and no shrinkage. They fit perfectly over the deep mattress. I was afraid at that price they may not be good quality or a good fit, but they are perfect.

Look how good everything I already had goes with the new bedding.

This is the room the little tree with the sand dollar ornaments are that I had blogged about.

I purchased the little tree at Hobby Lobby at fifty percent off which made it four dollars and then stuck it in this urn I already had and added the sand dollar ornaments.

Here is another cozy spot to curl up with a good book if you want.

The red quilted velvet shams are from Pottery Barn and were given to me by my daughter. They add that festive feeling in here for the holidays.

This was one of my kid's stockings when they were at home.

Brought this rusty star in that I purchased a few years ago for $30 at a flea market.

Extra blanket on the bottom of the luggage rack, just in case.

Night time shot.

I think this is my new favorite room right now.

  1. OHHHHHHHHHH, NOOOOOOOOOO< you are tempting me......I love plaid and red plaid is soooooo nice!! I have a set of flannel sheets and have not put them on the bed yet!! I don't know why, since we have had cold weather here. In the middle of the week it is supposed to get in the teens at night, which for ole SC is cold! You say it fits on the deep mattress?? I have a very deep mattress between 16-20 inches...I forget which. So it would be nice to have these!!

  28. Oh I would love those sheets in one of my boys 3 rooms! But realistically they would complain because they like COLD sheets (crazy, I'm the opposite)... and their rooms only look like that for one day and then - well, you know boys - clothes everywhere, top sheet gone... uggghh!

  44. I'm headed to Walmart. My master is red and I always like to add a little Christmas. Need new flannel sheets and those are perfect. I too love making it cozy in the winter. I pile the softest sheets and blankets on my kids beds then make sure they have the softest p.j.s and robes. I love to tuck them in and feel all the softness around them. I hope when they are grown they'll remember how soft and cozy they were. And don't think that every time I tuck them in then crawl into my own soft warm bed that I don't thank God for that blessing when I think of the people who might be cold at night. I want my kids to remember that too and then be the kind of people who do something about it. This Christmas, we should all try to do something about it. That feels as warm as the flannel. Merry Christmas. I really enjoy your blog.

  46. Kim-Who would ever think you would find sheets like that at WallyWorld? I love them and they are perfect in your room. When I read the Red/White/Blue Christmas I thought (just for a tiny second there) that maybe you had gone 'round the bend...but now I see it and it is perfect! What time do you serve breakfast?

  50. That bed looks so pretty and comfy. Those sheets really do make it. I love the accent pillow on the bed too.

For those of you who've used flannel sheets, do they hold up well? I remembered back when the jersey sheets were popular and my friends all told me those things stretched. Any problems with the flannel? If not, I may have to go to Wal-mart to buy some since I get terribly cold in the winter.

  66. What a great room to be in especially these days!! I could use the flannel sheets here! We've got down comforters on every bed and praying the heat pump does not quit! It is up to 18 degrees now. Yay. Gorgeous room, Kim, I love the colors. It looks so cozy and comfy all ready for guests too. You always do such a beautiful job. I thought about you and the past wax as I was staining and finishing a table, but I did not know how it would hold up with kids and spills. I ended up going with polyurethane, but really want to try the wax.
