Versatility

1.09.2011

I love when I can have a new look in the house for free. That is the good thing about keeping the same color scheme running throughout your home.

I know you're saying enough already with the dining room, but this idea popped into my pea
brain the other day while driving home (strange I know) and I had to try it.

Now that the dark yellow walls have been changed in here I can take the yellow chairs from the
breakfast room table and put them in here and vice versa.

I did this a few days ago and waited to see how long it took Mr. Savvy to notice.
Sometimes he will notice a small change right away, but not a bigger one.

After he didn't say anything I finally asked him while we were sitting in these chairs eating supper if he noticed anything different?

Well, he gets all flabbergasted and starts looking around the room.

Then I asked him if he was comfortable and he said why? Poor man having to live with me.
I finally told him and then he got up to look at the yellow chairs in the dining room.

He said the change was more noticeable in here. I was thinking about painting the brown chairs that go in here green, but not sure he will agree with that. I think they would look so good green and distressed. I know he doesn't want the table painted.

For right now I will just switch them occasionally. It is this way for now.

So what do you think? Like the switch?
What about green chairs?

Hope your week is great. I am going to be painting if we don't lose power from this winter storm coming. If I'm missing Monday or Tuesday then we lost power.

  2. I love it Kim! Especially the yellow chairs. You are so good at thinking outside the box. I think green chairs would look awesome.

  3. LOL! I wonder that Mr. Savvy doesn't trip in the night, things move around so quickly in your home. Hee hee!! Evan wouldn't have noticed either, UNLESS I moved his sofa that he plants himself on! LOL! He tells me I can do anything I want EXCEPT move or get rid of that one item.

I love the idea of green chairs! You are such a brave soul with your furniture refinishing, Kim! I do admire you so! Stay warm.

  5. Yeah, I can't get enough of those rooms. It looks great! Where is the furniture from?

  6. Hi Kim, I do like the switch, and that is what's good about keeping to a color scheme. Changing out features and accessories from room to room. As for Green...I think it would make a nice addition as well. Your rooms are lovely. So glad I found your blog. Wonderful ideas and inspiration. xoxo tami

  7. I have to say that I love the yellow chairs in the dining room. I think they pull the whole room together. And yes...paint the other chairs...but then I LOVE painted furniture so I am always going to say paint them. But I would keep the yellow chairs in the dining room from now on. They don't look very yellow in the photo...more cream. Anyway...I love the way they look.

  8. Willo, the yellow table and chairs have no name, probably Chinese import. I bought them at a local decor store at %40 off. The dining table and chairs were purchased at another local store called Real Deals and I got the table and eight chairs for $650. They are by Hooker furniture so that was a steal!

    Thanks

Love the yellow chairs in the dining room... I think you and I have similar tastes in furniture... do you think so?

I would frown away from painting the other chairs green..only because then you have two sets of painted chairs... I think it's more interesting to have one set wood... Maybe you can get away with just changing the cushions on the wood ones??

My husband never notices around here either... which from what I hear in comments on my "Flower Power" post is a good thing...

    Makes for easier decorating decisions!!

I just changed my dining room too (you're not alone) I haven't posted it yet.

  10. I love it! What an ingenious idea you had. I really, really like the chairs swapped out!

I had to chuckle at your story. My Hubby is the same way about some things like that around house. Total oblivious to the change.

  11. I love the yellow chairs and table so much. Joe would not have noticed the change of chairs either! I think distressed green chairs would be terrific in that space and you are the expert!

  12. love how this is looking... I will chime in here and say that if you painted the chairs green, I think it would be too much and you would lose the pow! effect that you have in the green hutch back. And you wouldn't be able to do the switcheroo as easily! That's my two cents worth!

  13. Hi again Kim, thank you for adding me to your blogroll, I added you also, and am honored to do so. Have a great week! tami

  14. I love the yellow chairs in the dining room! And the brown ones add a nice warmth to your kitchen eating area. Great switch!!

Too funny about your hubby. Mine is the same way. Sometimes he notices changes right away, and other times days will go by and he never realizes something is different!

  15. I love the switch too, great idea to even think of it:) Mr. K would have sat down and not noticed it until I told him, he is to into football right now what with the playoffs goin on.
Myself I'd leave the chairs wood but if you do decide to change them to green I know they will be perfect! Absolutely love your diningroom table!

  17. LOVE it - it looks GREAT - I don't know if I would go green. I think the green would look good, but I think the yellow is just perfect

  18. I love the yellow chairs in the dining room and agree that painting the others would be a good move.
Why do I think that Mr Savvy may soon be sitting on a green chair?...and liking it?!

  19. Hi Kim,
I like the switch. I'm not sure about painting the chairs green. I think you'll get tired of it! Well, I know how we are.

Mr.Sissie hardly ever notices anything I change until about a month or two later! LOL.

  21. What about a fabric change instead of paint on the wood stained chairs?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Kim, I love your dining table & chairs as they are. If anything, I would paint the yellow ones green. The only problem with that is would you be able to return them to the original yellow if you decided you didn't like the green. Just my two cents...

No snow or ice in Cherokee County yet. How 'bout your area?

  23. Lovely! I think switching the chairs was a fabulous idea! Isn't it funny how small change can make a big impact? Both rooms look gorgeous! XOXO ~Liz

  24. I like the change. And I like that Mr. Savvy didn't notice. Just think of what decorating choices you can get away with and him not notice! I bought a huge crate for on top of my tv armoire and it sat there for at least a week before husband noticed it. Actually I think it was only because he was inputting out receipts into Quicken and couldn't figure out what the antique store receipt said. I say go with the green. You are so good at painting furniture, they'll look great!

  25. Jill, no snow or sleet yet. I am sure it will get here soon enough. Stay warm.

  27. Okay A) I never get tired of looking at your spaces so no apology necessary; and B) it looks great in both rooms with the switch-er-ru. I vote for leaving it, at least for a while, till you tire of it.

  30. Kim, that's funny that your husband didn't notice, mine would be the same way! I love the switch and I think the other chairs would be beautiful painted green, especially since you're such an ace painter!

I hope the storm isn't too bad for you guys, it's supposed to hit us on Tuesday.

  31. Kim, I love the switch!! I get my best ideas when I am driving down the road or in line a the grocery store! Crazy! I also love the idea of the green chairs....maybe your husband won't notice! lol

I am hoping and praying we don't lose power from this winter storm!! Ice is pelting down outside as we speak! I am NOT a happy camper when I am powerless!!

  34. I think both rooms look beautiful either way. I have absolutely loved your kitchen table and chairs ever since you got it. They just ooze that warm French country look and feel I adore.

  35. This is so funny, Kim! I think it's great you can mix things up like that! Both rooms look wonderful!

  36. The yellow chairs look perfect with your dining room table. Love it, as for the chairs now in the kitchen I say get the paint out and make 'em green. Both rooms look perfect and having the option to just change the chairs to an entirely new look is a "behind the wheel" genius moment.

  37. Kim, I am laughing out loud picturing your husband having to figure out what has changed. I can't tell you how many times my hubs has been subjected to the same *test!* LOL. I love the kitchen chairs in your dining room (and vice versa). Isn't it fun to be able to switch around without spending a dime?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hi Kim. I really like the switch in chairs a lot. I have noticed decorators are saying that tables and chairs don't need to match, and in fact, it's nice if all the chairs aren't the same! I have switched my chairs from dining room to kitchen and love the flexibility of that! Oh, we are covered in snow at 9:51 near Stone Mountain! Linda

  43. Kim, love the change! The chairs that are now in the dining room seem to pick up the color that is on the inside doors of the hutch. Love the look of casual/formal together. I really like the idea of painting the brown chairs that were in the dining room (now in the kitchen eating area) green and distressed. I think the look would be stunning! Tammy

  45. Love the switcheroo! The yellow looks so great in the dining room with the wood! How fun to be able to play like that...you're too smart for your own good;)!

I don't know who said it first but I agree with leaving the other set of chairs wood. I think having both sets of chairs painted might be too much...but I am sure whatever you decide will be wonderful!

  49. What a fun thing to do, it looks great Kim....once I put up a HUGE picture above the fireplace where a HUGE clock was and it took The Hubs 3 days before he noticed....he wouldn't let me paint the dining room table or chairs either a bit traditional our men huh?

  50. Kim, I also love the chairs switched. The yellow ones look great with the table and cabinet.

  54. I love your yellow chairs. I am a big green fan, too! The switch looks good. When Dan left the other morning for work he said, "try not to move anything today!" I promised I wouldn't, I waited for a day or so, lol!

  58. The yellow chairs look great in the dining room. I like the wide shot of your dining room, it is really pretty with the new paint. I don't know if I'd paint those beautiful brown chairs though. I am sure if you do they will be beautiful though, and green would be a lovely color. Maybe just wait and bit and see if the feeling passes first. LOL! Hope you are staying warm and cozy. I just woke up to several inches of snow! Wow!

  62. I love the way the switched chairs look. I also think that if you decide to paint those yellow chairs green it is going to look fantastic. Great Job.

  63. Valerie, I am talking about painting the brown chairs green not the yellow ones. Then I would put them back in the dining room and they would be a color instead of brown.

  64. Oh, my god, I am not kidding, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the way you have your chairs now. I think the contrast that occurs in both rooms with the switch adds so much interest and is down right gorgeous. I also like how you have two of the stained wood chairs (old dining room chairs) flanking your china cabinet and hutch in the your dining room. I'm sure if you decide to paint the stained chairs green they'll look very nice, but I think the stained wood is such a nice look with both of your tables. Anyway, you did good. :)

  65. I like the yellow chairs with the brown table. I'm not as crazy about the brown chairs with the yellow table...just my thoughts. As for painting the chairs green...it would be hard for me to do it, simply because they match your table so perfectly. But...I have full trust in your judgement of what looks good painted, so no doubt it would turn out beautifully.

  67. I just love those yellow chairs! I don't think it'd matter where you put them! No really they look great with the dark brown table! And what is it about men and painting furniture?....Seriously do men have some inherent appreciation for unpainted wood? Hmmm maybe it's just me... Vanna
