How About Now?

2.21.2011

Wow, you guys are great. So many wonderful suggestions and I read each one.
I have made so many nail holes now by arranging and rearranging.
I also was hit in the face below my left eye by one of the falling antlers. Ouch!

This was the way it looked last night in my post. A lot of you said to add the
sconces with the greenery back, but I just really don't like that look. I didn't care for the plastic greenery collecting dust.

This is how I have it now. I lowered the picture and brought in these sconces from the
dining room. I tried plates above, but the ones I presently have did not look right.
I have ordered a platter and two brown transferware plates from ebay so I will wait
and see how they look. I really do love my antlers though.

I also moved the antlers from being spread out to closer together and only up over the picture.
I know a lot of you don't like the antlers and some of you love them. I first saw them being
used by one of my favorite designers, Charles Faudree. If you haven't seen his books you are
missing out. Now I need to get some ivory candles since the ones I have match the wall.

I wish you could stand in the room and see it. I promise it is better than the photos.

So, any better??

Thanks so much for all your help.

KIM

  8. I think it looks great!! I love your antlers, and your sofa!

But.......since you asked.........what if you hung the antlers in a row above the door??? And leave the sconces.
    Just a thought.....???

My walls are plaster so you have to be very committed when you hang something!! Ha

Love how the scroll work on the candle sconces pick up the monogram on your pillow. So clever.

  15. Oh Kim you are a hoot with all your holes in the wall! I love what you are doing...my opinion is that transferware can only make an arrangement better. Looking forward to seeing the eBay purchases. Have a great day!

  16. Love it ... so glad you added sconces back. Great balance now! Sorry you were attacked by one of the antlers though. The things we go through in the name of decorating, huh? LOL

  18. I love it, you were right! Do we know what those antlers are from? If those are deer they are so tiny compared to our Montana deer. Also I have to say that I just love anything to do with horses, I grew up showing them and just love what you have done in that room, I still have my saddle.

  23. Yep- It looks GREAT! I think bringing the antlers down and in really anchored them to the painting...AND I think adding the sconces on each side just cemented the whole arrangement. Looks great now- I knew you would work until it was just right...and that YOU would know when it was just right for you. I also know it looks different when it is right in front of you and we only see a picture. You see it in 3D and we see it flat...big difference. NOW you can rest (as if you do)...lol Diana

  25. Kim,
Great idea to use the sconces on either side and move the antlers closer! It looks beautiful. Most of all, I am so happy to know I am not the only one who puts a ton of holes in the walls when hanging photo's! Glad to also know I am not alone with changing my pictures around! Hope you're having a great day :)

  27. Kim now it looks complete. The sconces were the perfect finishing touch, and moving the antlers closer together so much better. When I move things around on the wall I find after filling in the nailholes using a small trim roller covers it up perfectly. Martina

  28. Looks wonderful. It's such a pretty room and the accessories are all fabulous. You've done a great job. The only other suggestion is when you get tired of the candles, you could put the sconces back and do a feather arrangement. Just something to think about for a change. Hugs, Marty

  29. Looks lovely Kim :o)
Hope your poor face isn't too sore.
I have mainly white walls and 'fill' holes with chalk when I have a move around, could you get some coloured chalk to match or fill the hole and dab a bit of paint over the chalk?
    Best wishes

  30. Oh the holes in my walls! I can totally relate. I'm in love with this look you did, and I agree, Charles Faudree is brilliant and I would die for any one of his rooms. My husband would truly die as he could never live in one of his rooms. Alas, the drama of a designer whose taste is different than her husbands! Anyway, your room looks fantastic and I am so digging the horse lamp.

  32. Maybe you need a sign...Watch for Falling Antlers!!! Looks great. I have some holes going on, too. I need to do a simple fill and touch up! I have been spring cleaning lately and hoping for better weather again to do some projects.

  33. It looks fabulous! I like the picture hung lower and the addition of the sconces really finishes the look. Love it!!

  35. I love it! American Pickers just recently did a 'picking' for William Shatner. They were asked to decorate their room as well....it was equestrian themed. It turned out really nice! You should head over to History channel-American Pickers-Season 2 Episode-They Boldly Go! and see for yourself! Can't wait to see your plates!

  38. Nothing you ever throw together looks BAD... I liked the first picture on top of this post very much, but the closer antlers and the sconces look beautiful too. I think it's just a matter of a more minimal look, or fully filled out, for lack of a better term.

I've gotten rid of alot of plastic greenery too.. it is a dust collector and looks..fake.

  39. I just read the comment about American Pickers. I saw that episode and Miss Obara is right. Beautiful room! See if you can find it. I think you will enjoy, not just the inside but the outdoors as well.

I like what you've done here. I don't think it needs another thing. I love the candle sconces much better than the pocket sconces with greenery. I don't believe you need the plates.

Just now able to comment. This was doctor appt day! Whirlwind St Louis trip.:-)

  40. Looks good, Kim! I'm still fond of the greenery, but I totally get your point about the "fauxness" and dustiness of it. Maybe you could do real????? ;o)

What about adding the small plates back up among the antlers? I'm feeling like something's missing. But, it's probably just might be me. I like "busy" vignettes.

Although I don't own any, I really do like the skull/antler plaques. I may consider looking for a few when we redec the finished basement for a more "grown-up", masculine look.

  41. Kim, I love the theme of the room and the antlers are great! Although I like greenery, I seem to go back and forth as to whether I should keep it or not. Some artificial greenery is better than others, but you are right...it can be a dust collector!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yes! That's it! I love the sconces on the side and it looks very clean and balanced. You know I am a fan of the antler. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  43. The sconces do look great. But I was even thinking the greenery on either side would look great too! Anyway, it looks much better with the sconces!
