I Need to Help Out

2.17.2011

When I began this blog a little over a year ago I didn't even know you could have sponsors purchasing ad spaces on a blog. I just started this blog as a creative outlet and in hopes of sharing my decorating ideas and maybe inspiring others.

I know people have mixed feelings about ads on blogs, but I feel like it is time to accept sponsorships here at Savvy Southern Style. I have been spending more money than normal since starting this blog for new cameras, laptop, paint and glazes for projects, thrifting buys that I didn't do much of before, and now a small fee for the linky party subscription. I have enjoyed every minute of it. I do put a lot of time into this.

This economy has not been very good on our pocket book. The industry that Mr. Savvy is in has taken a huge hit and let's just say the income is much lower than it was.

I know we are very blessed to have what we do, but I would like to help out.

The add rate is $30 a month or 3 months for $75. I will need a button to add to my sidebar.
Right now I am offering the month of March free when you purchase two or more months. That will be two months for $30 or three for $50 if you start March 1st. The add will be placed in my upper sidebar and I will periodically switch their placement around.
I will do a spotlight post to introduce your business or product. I will also be open for giveaways or product reviews that fit my blog.

This blog has grown rapidly over the last few months with over 1670 followers and over 2360 subscribed readers. The blog has stayed in the top 30 on Blog Top sites in the home and garden category.

My daily traffic is averaging around 3000 visitors and over 5000 pages viewed daily. I am always getting comments from others that I send a lot of traffic to their blogs.

I would like for the products to be something that interests my readers. If interested please email
me kimnichols45@hotmail.com

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kim

  4. All the best, Kim.

I believe this is a wonderful idea for you. I have nothing against ads. I've been approached quite a bit, deciding not to participate, I see nothing wrong with it for others.

  15. Good luck Kim...I know you will do so well...the economy is terrible so I don't blame anyone for doing what they can to bring in a little something to help out...that's why I work part time. 17. Good for you Kim!!! I hear yah totally.
I have wanted to put ads on my blog for a long time. I really need to help out at home. I have never seen anything wrong with blogs doing this. I don't know why some get so upset and say they will stop following.

Your blog is gorgeous and deserves it success you have worked hard on it!

    I love the hawk!!

  18. I understand your decision. I hope you get a lot of REAL advertisers and not just the generic Sears or Groupon-type ads. I actually like ads for funky art and home boutique shops that are in line with the content of the blog, but the generic ads are a distraction. Best of luck!!

  19. Way to go girl! You have to do what works best for you and I think this is a fantastic idea! If companies or groups are smart, they will jump on it! Wishing you much luck and success with it!

  21. Go for it Kim! Why not? If you can bring in some extra cash, then that's great. Make the blog work for you!

  22. Heather, those generic ads you are talking about are the google adsense ads which I do have on my blog already and I should receive a payment soon I hope. If your blog gets a lot of traffic you can do pretty well on those.

  23. Kim, you work really hard on your blog and I know you will be very successful in making the sponsorship work well. My hat's off to you, my friend!!

I love that little hawk. Great catch!

  24. I say "go forth and prosper". I know you started this just for fun, but nothing wrong with wanting to have some income, especially when it takes as much time as any other job would. The only ads I don't like are the pop-up ones. Even with a blocker activated, some slip through. But, most blogs don't have those, so it's rarely a problem.

  25. I agree with everybody else!
    Go for it!!
This is a full time job! Why not make some $!

  26. I think taking ads is a great idea. I wish you all the success that you so deserve.

  27. You have a great blog and get a lot of exposure so the ads will probably be quite successful. Good luck!

The photos of the juvenile hawk are fantastic! I especially love the one where it looks like he is staring right at you.

  29. I understand Kim as I too have spent money on blogging the last few years. All of it has been my choice. I am approached constantly for ads and free giveaways but I'm just not interested. I don't want to feel pressure or like it is a job. I blog purely for fun and friendship. Good luck with your new venture. It will be a big success no doubt about it.

    Blessings, ~Melissa

  30. I don't know anyone who has not been negatively affected by this economy. Unfortunately there does not seem to be a quick end in sight. We all have to do our part to keep our financial futures bright. Good luck to you and I am sure you will be bringing in more income soon.

    Love,

  32. Love your blog and I'm sure you will do well. I have a quick question..maybe you can email me since I generally don't look back for replies. How do you determine how many "subscribers" you have? Where does one get this info?? Thanks Kim!

  33. I don't mind the ads at all. How many commercials do you see in one episode of a decorating show on TV? On a blog, you can just scroll past the ads if you aren't interested and it doesn't take over two minutes to get back to the subject. Having a lot of followers is a reward for your work, but I think it's great if you can also get a monetary reward for the time you put into the blog. Your time is valuable.

  34. Kim, first of all I love the pictures of the little hawk, and secondly you go girl! I know how very hard you work to bring each of us wonderful projects and design ideas, so I'm happy that you will be compensated for all of your time and effort! Wishing you much success!

  43. Kim,

Those are great pictures and what how fun to watch nature right out your window in the morning. Can you tell me how you found out those statistics about your blog? You mentioned followers and readers, how do I know how many readers I have. I don't recall any blog ever sharing with us how they know their statistics. Good luck!

  45. Hi Kim, I understand the need for ads. I prefer to see ads that I would actually click on, like Etsy ads for dishes, home decor, or ads for unusual decor shops, book (novel)ads, or kitchen things, or cameras.

As someone who just started blogging as a hobby, I hate to see the pressure to have the "best, most expensive," on our blogs to make it interesting enough to get readers.

  47. Hi Kim~ I just wanted to offer a word of encouragement. I do enjoy peeking in on all of these pretty blogs, but I have often wondered, "where do these ladies get the money to do project after project"? I appreciate your honesty, that it has taken a chunk out of you to financially maintain this blog. My husband for the past 14 years has been a Real Estate Broker/Owner... here in Michigan...can you say DOUBLE WHAMMY?! Our income went from 6-figures straight down the drain (I am a SAHM and we have 5 children to care for). I am a Designer, and have an antiques shop...neither of which are profitable businesses in this economy (at least not here!). I say all of that to encourage you, because it is your family that matters, not your lifestyle! We had to STOP eating out, going on our weekly date nights, staying at B&B's (which we love!),and taking family vacations. I struggled with that, but in the end WE STILL HAVE OUR FAMILY. We have learned to love thrifting and making~do, doing away with the unnecessary and frivolous. We have been able to pay off our debt and are nearly 100% debt free, because the income was not there to maintain our former lifestyle...so the things had to go. We sold things on Craigslist sometimes just to put food on the table. We were fortunate to sell our home in the midst of this nightmare, and we never fell behind on a payment, PRAISE THE LORD! Keeping up with the Jones', maintaining an appearance...it's just not what is important when you are facing losing everything. Don't feel like you have to keep this blog for anyone else, you have nothing to prove.

    Blessings and Best Wishes~
    Shabby Chick

I've stuggled with the same thing and recently decided to try it. Only 2 businesses have contacted me and neither were the right fit. But, it is work and I think you should go for it!
