Tell Me the Truth

2.11.2011

I want to know how many of you order things that you just feel you must have and then
you have to hide the darn box that the goods come in? I know I am not the only one doing
this now am I? Come on and tell the truth. It will surely reform you!

The man in the big brown truck just delivered these wonderful vintage style milk bottles.

I have had my eyes on these for quite some time. (yes, that is a huge crack in the top of my
cabinet. Now, that is real character.) I just love that they are French, red, and farmhouse style.

There are so many uses for these. You can put water and a flower in them and you can
even use them for milk. I am not sure where I am going to place them, but I am sure
I will figure it out.

What would you put in them or use them for? Ideas?

I ordered these on Monday from farmhousewares.com and they were delivered today. Wow!
I am not being compensated for telling you this. There is a sale going on over there for Valentine's.
I also found that she has a blog, too.

This is the same site that I ordered my herb crates from.

This is the largest one on top of my fridge.

I am using the small one to hold coffee filters.
The other two are hanging on a wall in the sun room.

Now, I must go hide the box!!

Have a great weekend.

KIM

  2. Love those milk bottles! I can see why you bought them. They have your name all over them! I honestly have never hide to hide a box! I always say that the hubs is going to kill me, but then I blab about it and he is always fine with it. I am a very lucky woman! I just don't get to buy as much as I would like to!!!

  4. Very cool! I could hide all the boxes I want & it wouldn't do a bit of good. I think I have the most observant hubs in the world!!! He doesn't miss a thing!

  5. Your bottles are too cute! I'm sure you will put together a fabulous vignette with them! P.S. I hid the box that brought my silver water pitcher a few weeks back! I'm waiting patiently for a couple more ebay packages to arrive, but thankfully, my husband ordered those for me for my birthday coming up!

  7. I thought you made a lamp out of one when I saw it sitting in front of the lamp with the red shade. That would be cool if you did!
I am a box hider of ginormous proportions,
"that old armoire? Honey, we have had it for years! Don't you remember?"

  8. I 'may' do that. ;) Those milk bottles are really cool!! I'm sure you'll come up with a lot of great uses for them.

  9. Cute bottles Kim! I can't hide anything because Mr. Comforts of Home works from the house....so he sees and hears the UPS truck coming up the driveway - lol.

  10. Girl, I've had boxes sitting BY the front door and nobody says a thing in order not to have to move them! My saying is, "You're either part of the problem or part of the solution"!

  11. Love your Frenchy mild bottles Kim, and girl I have stuff hidden all over my house ha ha!! Don't want to shock poor Len to death...Hugs and smiles Gloria

  12. I hide boxes too!
I would use the milk bottles as vases, but I'm sure you can come up with something much more creative. Happy Friday!

  13. Okay, this post made me bust out in a laugh :) One of the many things I miss about my BFF moving from Mass to NC is that we used to hide stuff in each others basements or cars until we could ease them in the house at the right time. And funny thing is, I know a lot of women who do the same. We're just different beasts than men with different needs and I'm ok with that!! The bottles are great.

  14. Ohhh your new french bottles are so cute....I love them! The possibilites are endless :o) Yes, I hide the boxes the big brown truck drops at my door. The problem is....eventually the room I hide them in begins to overflow and DH finally notices. He then inquires as to where on earth all those boxes came from?!?!? Huh,beats me honey ;o)Have a great weekend!!!!!

PS. I plan on re-painting a bedroom on the sly. Wonder how long it will take before DH notices that one? LOL

  15. Fun goodies, Kim! I always buy for business and then things just end up in my house LOL!

  16. Love the bottles...thanks for the tip on the sale...I'm going to mosey on over and check it out. I don't hide the boxes as my husband takes off the garbage and always sees them at some point, but I have been known to go on a buying binge from time to time and when that happens, I don't advertise the fact that a box might have contained several items. Yep, hon that pencil came in that big ole 2ft box...can you believe the waste in packing materials. ;)

  19. I love them...I could see maybe some coffee beans...or sunflower seeds...perhaps even one stemmed fresh flower on occasion. You could change em up!

  20. Love your bottles. They are wonderful. How funn you are. No hiding boxes here. We're retired and both always home. I think he does more shopping than I do. He is addicted to Fry's Electronics. lol. Hugs, Marty

  21. oh, they're really, really cool! I have some vintage olive oil bottles. They're so fun and gives some personality to your house. Great idea.

Can I invite you to my blog? Every Friday I have a section called "COOL or FOOL". It's where the readers are the judge of the world of interior design. I always post unconventional and interesting things, so people can give their opinion. Today I've posted a "shocking" living room and kitchen inspired by the series "DEXTER". I must warning you, it's a little bit creepy. lol
Come take a look and tell me if you think it's "Cool or Fool". :-)

    Thank you!!! :-)

    Have a great weekend!

  22. Hi Kim, I love the bottles! I would just leave them as they are. I hide stuff all the time. My hiding place is in the guest room bathtub.

  23. If you mean 'hide it from the hubby,' guilty! I recently purchased a buffet - hauled it into the house myself (no easy task)and hid it from my husband for about a week (it was in my sewing room where my husband never goes). When I told him of the bargain price for it, all was fine. Whew!

  24. Hiding the box was a whole lot easier before The Husband started working from home. My usual purchases are roses ... big surprise, I know.

Funny story: A couple of years ago, I was out in the driveway in my outdoor work area unpacking a large order of roses that I ordered from a California nursery that was closing. I ordered one of every rose they had that I didn't have.

As I was about halfway finished unpacking the box, The Husband comes out and asks, "How many roses do you have there?"

    "86", I replied.

    "You ordered 86 roses???"

"No. I ordered 98 roses. They were out of 12 of them by the time they packed my order."

That was the last time he ever questioned my rose orders. I guess sometimes you just have to shock them into submission. :)

  26. As soon as I type this comment, I'm headed straight over there! You'd have to beat me off with a stick over those bottles! I'd (if there's room in the top) add some white jelly beans maybe?Red hots for Valentine's Day? I thought of you a few hours ago. I was at the antique mall and they had all these antlers. Don't know what you pay for yours. These weren't terribly big. I think they were about $30 each.

  28. When my husband complains about all my decorating I tell him that's what women do! I remind him that he is free to marry a man but then he'd be gay and have much better, and more expensive taste!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Thank you! Thank you Kim! I love seeing your images of how you put the Milk Bottles and Crates to work. I'm totally going to use the coffee filter idea. And yes...I do keep my purchases quiet. Things just appear around the house without much fanfair. xoxo Betsy

  30. Haha I'm so lucky that my hubby barely reads the custom forms on my packages lol. He just lugs home the heavy boxes & then the whole family waits to see what I've drug home now lol. I ordered those herb crates this week too woohoo! I found some German wine bottles similar to your French milk bottles & I need to go back to see if the store still has them. I would probably put sprigs of lavender or something like that in the bottles.

  31. Ahhh, this is what I love about not being married. No hiding of the packages! I have a milk bottle that I found in my boyfriend's backyard. I cleaned it up and it was home to a beta fish for a while. He looked so cool and classy in that bottle and the cats couldn't get to him in there.

  32. Ha Ha I know exactly what you mean, my husband loves our house to look nice, he just doesn't want to think about how it gets that way, ie spending money, so recently he has been working closer to home and often pops in to say hi or have lunch so I have to be quick when the delivery driver gets here , getting rid of the packaging ins what I mean:)

  33. I hardly ever order anything as there is not a whole lot of variety up here, and to order anything from the USA is prohibitive in terms of postage and duty. I am envious of all the wonderful catalogues you have down there!
The bottles are sweet, and I'd use them as vases, or if I were having a casual summer tea, I'd put the milk in one of them.

  34. This is what I love about blogging...it makes me realize I am not the only one who does these things!!! Yes honestly I am always hiding stuff as a matter of fact I just went grocery shopping put the bags in the trunk and in the back is a box I forgot about! It is a snowman cookie jar I bought on clearance. I had it hidden so someone wouldn't see it but I forgot about it!!!

Do you know I still remember the milk man delivering milk to our home? Does this give away my age? Yikes!!
I love those milk bottles though!

  35. Those are really cool, they do have some great things, Sorry I don't have to hide boxes, cause there is just me and Tia... But I have in the past..LOL..

  36. How funny...I just got through hiding 2 boxes that arrived today and then I read your post! I love those bottles and think I'd use them as vases with some pretty wildflowers or a few roses. Have a good weekend, Kim.

  37. I'm in the club too, I keep things in the trunk of my car. Not because my husband gives a rip but I think because if I can't see it I don't think I've lost control and my mind. Love the new bottles, you did well with them.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Too cute Kim! I have had my eyes on those bottles for awhile now...I am going to run over there and order them!

My husband asked me if I was going to invite our UPS guy...Brett...to our Christmas party...seeing as he is practically one of the family...haha! On-line shopping is the best!!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Haha--I do it all the time. Hate when my husband works from home while I'm at work and the brown truck pulls up once again! Love the bottles though.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh, dear. . . I guess there are lots of us who hide boxes every now and then!

I love your bottles--they look wonderful with your things. Good choice! :)

  41. I love them Kim, they look so sweet next to the rooster lamp(which I love painted white)and always did love those boxes. I'll have to stop over her place... I just bring things in the house and sometimes keep them in the guest room until I can bring them out and when he asks I just say "that? I've had that for a while, where have you been"? works everytime.LOL
I be at your part BTW with bells on, wouldn't miss it!

  42. Hi Kim, how fun! Both your new collections are wonderful. I don't have either milk bottles or herb boxes, but I'll keep my eyes open for them now. Have a wonderful weekend!

  44. These bottles are so cute...actually the way you had them in one photo I thought they were lamps...and they would make darling little lamps. I love the UPS man, he always brings such fun stuff!

  45. OMG yes!!! I hide stuff ALL the time! It irritates me, but I do it anyway. :)

    Love the bottles!!

  46. I love these! Yes, I have a tendency to leave bags and boxes in the back of my van. That is my hiding place. Paul really doesn't care. It's all in my head! They look like great bud vases. Maybe fill them with buttons. I see mother of pearl with a little faux flower?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Well, I see I am not alone. My husband doesn't really mind either and he always finds the boxes eventually anyway.

  48. Hi Kim,
Just my luck ... my husband decided to work from home today and I saw online that my pottery barn purchase was "out for delivery" - Ugh! No Hiding a 100 lb media console table. Oh well! I love your French Milk Bottles - the red lettering is great! I would probably use them in the kitchen. Maybe displayed on top of the refrig in your crate? ~Susie

  49. LOL! I know the feeling, Kim. I get packages almost everyday. The girl who watches our home when we are out of town says it is like Christmas everyday at home because she is always bringing delivered packages in. I don't open them right away when hubby is home (although he really never complains nor says anything) but I get embarrassed especially if I know that the contents are more dishes. I love your milk bottles. You can even just display them empty....Christine

  50. Kim, Kim, Kim...We have talked about this before!;>) I can hide a box faster than a cat can blink...I have even been know to shove the small ones on a dining room chair and push it under the table...imagine that! And Lord help us should we be so excited we forget to hide the evidence. I love it when something has been out for several days and you-know-who SEES it (actually sees it) for the first time and goes..Where did this come from? Well whaddayathink-the flipping fairy dropped it off after midnight? I always smile and say -Oh, I've had that for a quite a while. uh-huh..but that's just me! Diana

I love this style of bottle. I have some that my husband bought me - yup, it *was* a bit like a miracle!!

I love making homemade lemonade in the summer and keeping them in the fridge. It's one of those things that helps make a perfect summer day!!

you can get a milk bottle holder and then use as vases or, if you have fresh herbs in your garden I would be making some vingears with some flowers like chives, rosemary. they would look great in the bottles in your kitchen?

He even SHOVELED THE DRIVEWAY, cause he was tracking a box and it was due on that day!!!!!!!!!!:):):) He gave the UPS guy and the Fed Ex lady a Christmas gift:):):) I love your bottles, Kim.
