Chalk Paint Love and Wow Us Wednesdays #9

I went to a small antique/flea market last week on the hunt for a small table and found this one. This is an old table made of solid wood and a dovetailed drawer. The booth owner was moving from one booth to another and I showed up at the right time. Yes, I paint on my table.

She was asking $40 for it and came down to $30 in hopes that I would buy it so she wouldn't have to make it work in her new booth. Why yes, I will take it! Thank you.

I ordered some of this chalk paint in Old Ochre and can I just say LOVE IT ! No sanding, no priming, no nothing. Just start painting.

This is what the table looked like after two coats of the paint and then it was waxed with clear wax. I used my Minwax paste wax that I already had. I will probably order some of the wax that Miss Mustard Seed recommends. I wanted to see if I liked the chalk paint first before sinking any more money into the other products.

This photo shows what the paint looks like after I started adding the brown wax. After this step I used the clear wax again which takes some of the dark wax back off.

Here is the finished look. I took these outside so the light would be good.

I decided to leave the top in its original finish.

Now I just need to decide on a new color to try.

O.K. now it is your turn to show us your WOWS.

Chalk paint...have been reading about this and hope to try it soon on a buffet, in the blue color Miss Mustard Seed used.

Love your table Kim, what a great deal. I've never used chalk paint before. I guess it has a primer built into it? What great stuff and the wax really adds that final touch. I paint on my kitchen table too, with plastic put on top:) What can I say, the light is good.

Hi Kim...

Ohhh...your little table turned out beautifully, my friend! I have been reading about chalk paint over at Ms. Musturd Seeds and have a couple of pieces that I would love to try it on! I'm always so chicken when it comes to refinishing furniture...it's a big project! Hehe! Sooo...I am so happy to see that you tried it and really appreciate the info. One of the wood pieces that I would like to try is a china cabinet. It has a slick wood finish (know what I mean?) I'm wondering if this chalk paint would do well on that type of finish. I would love to be able to skip the steps of sanding and priming. When you get a spare minute...would love to hear what you think since you have personally used it! Anyway...

I just love how your little table turned out! I love that you chose to keep the wood top. The "old ochre" is a beautiful color and of course, you distressed it perfectly! Thanks so much for sharing your project with us...this was such a treat, my friend! Also, thank you for hosting another WOW party! I'm just tickled that I could join in this week!

Warmest spring wishes,
Chari @Happy To Design

Hi Kim...as usual a great turn out already. Thanks for hosting. I was wondering if you could answer a question. I want to paint a cabinet that is sort of fake wood. Veneer maybe? Do you think the chalk paint would work without priming? It has a very shiny finish. Any advice you have would be so appreciated. Thanks again ~Ann
