Navy Blues

6.09.2011

Can you believe it is Thursday already? Wow, time flies when you are busy. Yesterday I worked on a couple of projects plus I went to the nursery and purchased my flowers for the pots on the deck. The deck looks so much better with color in the pots now. Don't forget to get your decks and porches ready for the party on 6-22. This will be in place of the regular Wow Us Wednesdays party. All the info can be found by clicking on the blog party button on my sidebar. You have to link up to be entered in the giveaway.

I want to show you another project I started on. It was so hot outside that I was glad to work on this project inside where it is cool.

It dawned on me the other day that Mr. Savvy's navy uniform was hiding in a closet somewhere. I started looking and I found it tucked way in the back of a closet in the guest room.

I had this vintage hanger in the armoire in the dining room. This hanger was in there when we bought it.

This shirt looks like it would fit a child. It is hard to believe that Mr. Savvy used to wear this in his early twenties. He said it fit tight. Yes, dear and it would really be tight now!

You can barely read his name and number on the shirt now.

I purchased this shadow box at Hobby Lobby weeks ago at fifty percent off.
These two will be merging together.
Looking forward to finishing this project and sharing it with you.

Can you guess where it will hang?
Debbiedoos, don't answer that. he he

  1. Oh, Kim, this is going to be beautiful! I'm guessing it will go in the nautical-themed bedroom, which is already absolutely gorgeous--this will be a crowning touch, I'll bet! Wherever it goes, though, it'll be magic in your hands. :)

  3. Oh Kim this is so cool, I can't wait to see how you do this. I have my Dad's uniform. I actually wore it for Halloween when I was 14 so my Dad was as little as a 14yr old girl and I was pretty petite back in the day. Oh I wish those days were back!! I digress, I am excited to see this done!!! Kathysue

I can't wait to see the finished project. I have my Dad's WWII, navy uniform. He was a Pearl Harbour Survivor. I've always wanted to preserve it and display it. You've given me inspiration to do it.

  10. I have several pieces of clothing that belonged to my grandmother and have had this on my very long "to do" list for ages. I always thought it would cost a fortune to have them put in a shadow box. I'm looking forward to seeing how you do it.

  19. What a great idea to put your husband's old navy uniform in a shadow box. That gives me an idea....if I can get ahold of my son's navy uniform, I can "frame" it in a shadowbox and give it to him (or his wife) for their home...

Can't wait to see the final result!

  23. Your button in the sidebar for the block party which says "click here for more info" isn't working--unless I'm clicking in the wrong place--which is entirely possible! Just thought you might want to know.

As well, I've read a description about this at The Picket Fence and I'm still not very clear about what's happening and how we are supposed to link up (which is why I clicked on it!)

I haven't seen the nautically themed room. Sounds like fun.

  27. What a great idea. I wore my dad's white Navy Shirt when I was in my teens. I was skinny and he must have been when he wore it. Thanks for the memories! I'll be back to see what the shadow box looks like when you get it ready.

  37. I'm excited to see what you do with this because I have my Dad's Navy uniforms ... both the dress and the whites. Dad passed away about 7 years ago at the age of 84 so I would like to preserve these for his grandchildren.

  40. What a fabulous idea Kim! Funny thing too cause when we were at the beach last week my father in law gave the boys each their great grand daddy's navy sailor caps. They are white and have his name on the inside. I will have to share the pic they took when Oldest first put it on. With out anybody saying anything his stood up straight and saluted. His Papa almost cried!

  41. Seeing that shirt brought back so many memories for me! I love the old style navy garb...the "swabies" as my dad called them were just too handsome sporting those uniforms. Also when I was a teen I was a Sea Explorer and we wore the white summer uniform just like that. We would have died in those hot wool uniforms. My father was a career man in the Navy so I have a really soft spot for those uniforms. On a little side note...we never had a bathroom in our house...it was alway the "head" and my dad always said "Skivies" regarding undergarments...LOL
