Storm Chasing

6.25.2011

Not really, but yesterday between five and six the sky grew eerily dark. I looked out and saw the dark rolling clouds and grabbed my camera.

First I went out on the back deck and shot a couple. These clouds were scary looking and magnificent at the same time.

I went to look out the front door and it looked even worse.

I was watching all the warnings on the local news. The storm was about 20 minutes away and headed this way. It was very warm and windy.

All this was coming in so quickly and Eric, Brooke and Leila were on their way.

Luckily all we got was some rain and a little lightening and thunder and it didn't even last long.
I guess it fizzled out by the time it got to us. It sure looked like we were going to get something awful though.

Just thought I would share these shots I grabbed.

Hope you have enjoyable weather this weekend!

  1. That's just how the clouds looked in my corner of the world in GA - I was glad to see them - we've needed rain desperately - we were standing outside for quite a while amazed at the beauty of the clouds. They were coming from the North and from the West - when they met - wow! Then there were breaks - holes - where you could see the depth of the clouds and a glimpse of clear blue sky - I told my husband that's how I imagine it would look when Jesus returns!
I didn't capture any with the camera - so glad you shared yours,
    Have a great weekend,
    Kathy

  6. I am just glad we have had daily rain at our yellow house (where the flower garden is located) even if we lose limbs that I must pick up. We caught that storm yesterday but it moved through quickly. Have fun with your kiddos! ♥O

  11. We had some really pretty thunder clouds last night but I didn't have my camera, darn it. I love your shots and I'm glad it was just a passing shower. We are in need of the rain yet again, but it's sunny skies here this morning.

    Enjoy your weekend!

  13. Beautiful pics. I was worried when your title said "storm chasing". Everybody and their dog is a "storm chaser" in Kansas, and most are not trained. It is addictive to take pics of awesome clouds like that though. Me? I take a few pics and then gather things to be ready to head for the basement. I am a chicken from experience!LOL

  15. Two weeks ago we had some of the same kind of clouds in Boston. I think they are called shelf clouds..but anyway it was in the aftermath of a rare tornado in the western part of the state. It was very scary because it looked like a tornado was just going to pop out any second~just like your pics. Nature can be humbling.

  19. Kim, we have had storms like that everyday for a week and a half! I thought we were going to get blown away yesterday. We also had large hail. We need the rain, but the severe thunderstorms everyday are about to do me in. Plus I had to put away all of our deck cushions, and I did not get to participate in the linky parties because our nice stuff would been blown to Georgia!!!

We have gorgeous blue skies here today. Yay!!!!!

Your pictures look ominous. I think that's what blew through here.....

  20. Great shots of the clouds, Kim! We finally had some rain (the first drops since May) during the night on Wednesday. It was quite a storm, but we were so happy to get the much needed rain.

  21. We had that storm yesterday afternoon. Hubby and I were playing Scrabble and it started to thunder and the lightening was incredible. Our puppy hid under the table while we played....and we got an inch of rain.

  24. Scary but beautiful. We have had the same thing all week in Ohio. Looks so awful and then just a little rain and wind. We had a couple of overnight storms that were worse. I'd say you were lucky these clouds didn't turn into more.

  25. What great pictures Kim, glad it didn't turn into a big storm!! We've had rain all week, today is the first day we have sunshine and it's going to be even nicer tomorrow. I'm glad since we're having Victoria's party out by the pool. Martina
