The Chandy

8.29.2011

Oh, how I love thee.

The old chandelier was 24 carat gold plated and Mr. Savvy thought that it was the grandest thing being gold plated. I guess because he grew up with nothing. I finally talked him in to getting the new one as an early birthday present for me which is in a couple of weeks.  Thank goodness he knows how to take them down and hang them up. The new one was not easy to hang. It hung crooked as a dog's hind leg. Yep, sure enough. We could have taken it down and taken it back probably if I hadn't already painted over the candle sleeves. After pulling off those stupid wattage stickers that were on two of the sleeves the paint had pulled off and left a big white square so I had to fix them. The paint on the sleeves was a poorly done job anyway. So Mr. Savvy took the new chandy down and completely took it apart to see what was making it crooked. One of the rods was not straight and the middle section had two pieces that weren't level so he filed those down till they were level. Amazing what he can do. Now it is perfect.

They say you get what you pay for. I was thrilled to find one of these for $400 instead of $900 and up.

Yep, the look without the price just like my subtitle says.

I know you are waiting to see the painted hutch and you will later this week. I promise.

Have a super week!

  3. It's big, but light looking, Kim! It looks wonderful! I'm hoping to get some painting in this coming week, myself. I've been told the moving van won't take paint on board - spray mainly, but I'm not throwing out my Annie Sloan! So, that means moving ahead on some things I thought might hold off until we moved.

  6. Looks beautiful Kim.

J knows how to do all that stuff. Yes, it is a good thing he does!

I have had my eye on a chandelier in a shop at the lake for over a year. I think it's time to pop back in and see if they've marked it down a bit more. I know I'll wait too long and it will be gone. It is handmade with spindle and iron arms. More American Country than French.

  45. YOU are a fabulous shopper to find that look for $400!!! The ones I have seen are even more than the $900 you mentioned. It is just huge for that price...my hat is off to you. Even though yall had to do a little tune-up, it was worth it for that price. So classy looking!
