For the Love of Dogs

9.16.2011

I sure have been adding a lot of dog items to my decor. I never had an inside dog until we got Bailey almost four years ago. My favorite designer, Charles Faudree, decorates a lot with dogs as you will see in most of his books.

When we stopped at an antique mall in Alabama a couple of weeks ago I went in and browsed around while Mr. Savvy took a snooze in the car. Yes, shopping bores him to death. You women who have husbands that enjoy shopping are so lucky. I was checking out each booth and then I stopped and took a double take. I found a wonderful old framed dog print and knew it needed to come home with me.
Both ladies at the check out said they both loved this print and really wanted it themselves. Well, too late now.

Did y'all notice this new picture in my last post? I told you this is my new favorite find.

Here is a shot without as much glare.

 Just look at those faces.

Here is a close up of the writing on it. It is called Four Kings & a Knave. Portraits of noted hounds & terrier.

Even the frame is perfect.

Now the pictures on each side of the window are close to the same size. This is the hunt scene full of dogs on the other side. This was my first hunt scene purchase fifteen years ago. I had it rematted last year from green to brown.

I am so thrilled to finally find a nice dog print. I think it is perfect in this room.
I am so glad patience paid off.

  6. Kim, love your dog prints.

I was raised that dogs were not to be inside a home. My husband worked with me for 12 years before I accepted these gentle creatures into my life. So glad I did.

They are heartbeats at our feet.

  7. I love dog, both in real life and decorating. They are so dear and add so much to our lives. Your new print is divine and it fits in grandly. I would love to find some dog paintings of beagles, but are so hard to find and so expensive. I just posted a few post back about dogs in art, you might want to stop by for a read. 8. Perfect! There have only been brief periods in life when I've not had a dog at my feet. They are always there for me, don't complain, and never talk back or share my secrets:) Love the prints and the places you've put them!

  9. I think it is interesting that they referred to the little terrier as the knave! LOL! I love their fiesty little selves! Great picture, Kim. I have a few Scotties... because of Tess, who we lost a few years ago. blessings ~ Tanna

  10. LOVE that print!... and no, I don't have dogs in the decor, primarily horses and chickens. Actually that's not true, the toile print on the wingbacks are dogs chasing pheasants.

  13. Great print, Kim. I love "dog decor," especially in the family room. You must go to Amazon and pick up a used copy of Living with Dogs--great dog decor photos throughout. You will love it!

  17. I wish Abi would sit and be that sweet. She's probably nervous about all the packing going on. She's my problem child. Had two easy as pie daughters. Then came Abi...

  18. You didn't tell me you got a new header! I love it. I'm assuming Brenda did it. She's so good. Your front living room is really coming along with that library feel now. The dog pictures really add to the cozy feel of the room.

  19. Hi Kim! I am just getting into the dog thing myself. I noticed this print, it is so fantastic! AT Brimfield I saw two great dog oil paintings, one at $4000, the other was a great one one too at $400, I didn't like either price! I have been adding to my figurine collection. I did find one print of an American Bull Terrier from World War 1, and I will share that soon~

I really like how you wait until you see just the right thing, and the dog print is a perfect example. It is a wonderful addition to your decor. I don't have any dog prints; I just have a big, sloppy mutt that I adore.

  49. Good morning, from the west coast!

I inherited a beautiful bronze greyhound, from my parents, but most of the other animals in the house (besides the living ones!) are horses. I always wanted one as a little girl, but never got one! Thankfully, I survived!

  50. Love, love, love the picture. I will have to be on the hunt myself. I see we also share the dog statue (in your blog header) from Pottery Barn. Mine sits on my mantel.

  51. Great dog picture. My father loved anything to do with dogs. Do you know I have a dog collection from when I was a kid..probably about 100 of them collected over time. I have them stored away and was hoping one of the kids would want them. I think BabyE might be the one! xo Diana

  52. Love the dog picture! We don't have any dog art yet but the kids and I spent the day at a breeder looking at Golden Retreiver puppies! I think I will end up with one in my future...a dog AND dog art that is...
    Have a nice weekend!

  53. I have the 3 pugs and one 160+ lb newfoundland/mastiff in the house. For art, I have a little pug carved from some kind of soft and silky wood that I just love to touch. My son got a pair of pugs (one fawn and one black just like mine) that have magnets in the noses making them kiss. I have a couple of black labs and 3 vintage glass labrador retriever candy holders. Oh and photos of the my dogs that are framed...
