Fall in the Kitchen

10.08.2011

Well, no, I don't mean I want you to fall in the kitchen. That wouldn't be nice now would it? I mean I have added a wee little bit of fall decor in the kitchen to share a long with the rest of the kitchen. The kitchen is usually referred to as the heart of the home and it seems even more so at this time of year. When it gets cooler outside we start nesting inside and there is more baking going on. There are two link parties featuring the kitchen and who am I to turn down a party invite. Get comfy because I took a lot of pictures. Don't we love looking at pictures? I know I do.

 Come on in.

this side is looking from the dining room

For those new here we built this home 16 years ago and did a small kitchen reno a few years ago with new cabinet door and drawer fronts and all of them painted, granite counters and tile backsplash. We did the tile backsplash ourselves since we are diy'ers.

I bought this bamboo table at Nordstrom Rack many years ago for $40 and it has moved all over the house. Now it holds a few of my cookbooks and other knick knacks.

This is an old letter holder I found at a antique store recently and I filled each slot with antique fern prints given to me by Alison and stuck a fern plant in the bottom.

My copper collection is still growing. Found the very old copper pan on the right, with all that great patina, at the Re Store in Asheville on our last trip for $10. The faux copper pitcher is from Joss and Main and was free due to credits built up. You should join if you haven't already. Just click on the link.

This is my vintage $8 stool that I painted with Annie Sloan chalk paint.

This is the hood over the cook top that Mr. Savvy did all the trim work on. I just love it.

Miss Bailey enjoys the heart of the home, too.

Have a super weekend!

  7. You have such a beautiful kitchen, Kim! I love how your granite tops work so well with the black cabinets. You've got just the right touch of Fall in here without taking up lots of space. I'm hoping to get some inspiration from all the kitchen posts today.

  8. What a beautiful kitchen Kim, Mr. S did a fabulous job on that hood, it looks so rich! I also love your Roos, I thought about your collection when I was at a resale shop recently that had some black plates with Roos, similar to the one on Mr. S's hood masterpiece.

  9. I love everything! I really love how you used your wooden letter holder with a fern and the little fern prints from The Polo House. I noticed that immediately. I also spied some new brown and white buffalo check pillows on your red sofa in the background. Please share where you got those. I would love to have some! Your kitchen looks very welcoming for the cooler months ahead.

  12. Hi Kim,
what a wonderful kitchen you have there, so pretty, and love the way you have accessorized it.
Your husband did a wonderful job on your stove hood. I have one that is metal with the same shape and I want to paint it or do something creative to it. Did your husband just build the decorative box around the bottom and add it to it or is the whole things made of wood??? It really is quite striking................

Thanks for sharing all your great pics as always,
    Blessings, Nellie
and Happy Fall to you hon.

  40. Kim I adore your kitchen AND I am so glad you showed it to us! I am painting my cabinets soon and I have been wanting to paint the tops a white and the bottoms something dark, yours looks like black. Are you happy with them? I am wanting a lighter colored counter (not sure what yet) and I think all white cabinets and counters would be too much, plus I'm thinking the bottoms get really dirty white I bet. Just LOVE your kitchen!!!

  48. Kim-It all looks lovely - warm and comfortable. We had one of those wooden mail slot things on our wall the whole time I was growing up. Ours had a flat brass rooster doodad attached to the front of the box part. I haven't seen one of those in years-brought back memories of the warm, farm kitchen we had. xo Diana

  53. I love your beautiful home! Can I ask how you like your corner kitchen sink. I would really like to have one when I remodel but for some reason not many kitchen designers usually encourage them. It would free up so much counter space for me in a small kitchen. Thanks
