The Rest

10.18.2011

OMG, this room is being shown again? I know that is what you are thinking so I will say it for you. Sorry, but I thought I would just share the rest of the room since I showed the new gallery wall in the last post. There could possibly be some new readers, or those living under a rock, who have not seen the whole room so bear with me. I also want to clarify that when I titled yesterday's post "finished" I only meant the gallery wall. The vignettes will always be changed up. I am always on the look out for more vintage leather books to fill the bookcase and I did score a few at Scott's  a couple of weeks ago that are in the bookcase now.  So for those of you who cannot take it one more time just move along. I fully understand. I will go sulk now. No, just kidding. For the ones who are staying, here is the rest.

The new look of the top shelf. When I bring in new books I get stumped for a moment, but then came up with this new look.

This is how it was before. The dog paint by number had to be moved to a new place and then the books all got rearranged.

before

after

The hat moved to the top of this stack of books.

The bottom shelve revised.

The horse pictures that were on the gallery wall moved over here.

My favorite picture

Comfy seating with a new throw added for the cooler weather.

Sun pouring in in the morning.

If you are still here thank you. If you left well then you aren't reading this anyway.

  3. Well I suffered through that post! Just kidding!!! I love all your books. I think you should just continue to fill up your shelves with nothing but the books. That would be a true library! I like your new zebra throw too.

  4. Hi Kim,
I saw an old dog door stop at an antique auction today and I thought of you. I didn't buy it, though, because I bought some other things. Your newly arranged shelves look fabulous.

  5. I love what you have done to your home. I have a thing for dogs. I want to redo my bathroom with all dog prints. Sounds crazy, but I found a great wall paper that I loved.

  13. Looks great, Kim. I actually like it better without the paint-by-number picture on the shelf. It looks "richer" to me somehow. You can show it again tomorrow if you like~ I'm old and forget what I see easily! xo Diana

  19. Looks great - and yes I am still here! I sometimes feel like I am talking about a particular room too much - lately my living room! But believe me, I think I can speak for most people when I say that I enjoy watching the changes you make. Just remember, you are talking to a bunch of decorated-obsessed people out here in blog land - we live for this stuff!

  22. Kim,
where can I find your awesome light fixture? I checked your old original post from when you first got it and it didn't name the brand.

  23. You are so funny... of course I'm still here! In fact, I was paying extra close attention because I am in the middle of reorganizing my shelves in my family room and my office. I love your gorgeous antique books! I just bought a volume plus a few unlatching ones when I was visiting my parents... I can't wait to incorporate them into the shelves. I moved the shelves up so that the books are a closer fit in the shelf, which meant i ran out of shelves and had to order new ones and get them painted! My house has been torn apart for a couple weeks and it's driving me crazy!!
ANYWAY, thanks for this inspiration... LOVE the updated shelves!

This can be use in my future plans. Having a design store. Just dreaming but who knows that this dreams come true, one day. One to thank for is your inspiration.

  34. I didn't leave. Couldn't pull myself away! Went and made pancakes for me and the 20 month old and almost 4 year old grandsons. Only Mickey Mouse would do, but then I'm back while they watch Toy Story 3! I just had to commment on your J. Murphy BlackSmith sign. I am making that sign for myself and for the ranch my husband now works for. This economy has forced my husband into a new and different job. He manages an Equestrian
Center which now boards more than 50 horses. I am going to write the name of the ranch on the sign and the year they bought the Dairy Farm from the previous owner. The sign I am making will fill a huge wall above a doorway into the main indoor barn from the Great Room/Lounge and Kitchen area that is newly remodeled by my hubs! I am making it atleast a foot larger than the one from Ethan Allen. Thanks for the post!

My daughter just had a new baby girl on the 10th! So, you and I both have new grandbabies to love! Congrats to you! Your granddaugghters are adorable!

I love your book collection and the vignettes you put together are always lovely and inspiring. I too, am always changing things up. Just yesterday morning, I got up at 5:30 A.M., to move a huge metal clock to a new location, because it was competing with the piano vignette I changed up (I found new chunky 2 ft. tall candlesticks that I added to the piano vignette and make adjustments for) and that caused a whole entry way and dining room and sitting room and family room change around. It was fun and after I sat with a cup of hot chocolate taking in the changes and feeling satisfied while I waited for the two grandsons to arrive from the other grandma's house.

  35. It all looks very (English) lovely! May I suggest one small, perhaps unthought of design change? Look at the burlap in the back of the bookcase. I could not find corresponding color that it ties to. A hunt green, even a custom color matched to your sofa, would bring perhaps a much more cohesive balance of color and add a beautiful background for your lovely collections. Or perhaps, a beautiful toile material. Oh, the endless ideas, ha,ha!
