A Favorite Color

12.27.2011

Good morning. Have you taken down your Christmas decorations yet? It took me most of the day yesterday to get them down and put away. Now, I am drawing a blank on how I want to put things back. I am sure it will come to me soon, I hope.
While I am waiting for something to click here is
a repost of another favorite furniture makeover that I did this year.

*****************

I ordered a new Annie Sloan chalk paint color to try and with fingers crossed was hoping it was right. At first when I started using it I thought oh, no, but as it dried and then the added waxes it was oh, yes.
I love this color. I want it everywhere, but know I can't do that.
Of course I had to paint a piece that I had already painted, but I like, no love, this color even more.

This is the little sneak peek I gave you the other day. I painted on this piece last weekend and love it!

I love it when I paint over an already painted piece. This creates great layers.

This is my new favorite color. Aubusson blue. It is more of a green blue or teal than the Old Violet I had used on this piece before.

Just look at this yumminess. Why isn't yumminess a word? It is now. It definitely changes color in different lighting.

Here is the BEFORE in the Old Violet.

Here are some more close ups.

Just look at that shine. I used clear and dark waxes and lots of buffing.

I was going to change this fabric on the dining room chairs, but you can see how it has multiple colors running through it including the blue.

This shows how well the drapes, chair fabric and the new color on the buffet work together so I think I will keep this fabric a while longer.

Gosh I love this color!

Thanks for taking a look at this again.

See you tonight with your favorite projects of 2011 for Wow us Wednesdays.

  1. Decorations still up here at the lake for Gabi and Drew. They will be here later this morning. Then, perhaps tomorrow, I'll get these put away. Going home at the end of the week. I am happy there are only two medium sized trees and a few vignettes there.

Perhaps the house won't feel as empty as it usually does after I take Christmas down. I am pretty sure there will be changes though. It always happens that way.

  2. Yes I do love Aubusson blue of ASCP. Looks wonderful....No I didn't even start taking things down yet, I usually do after New Year's. I won't have to take much down since I am moving again in about six weeks and unpacking and redecorating again.

    Have a wonderful week!

  5. Beautiful color, especially with the dark wax. I just painted some Windsor chairs with ASCP Graphite and once I put the dark wax on it the richness changed and I loved it even more. Will share at this week's WOW if the weather cooperates for a photo shoot today. Your old chest looks great with its new color. It's fun trying the different ACSP colors, don't you think?

  10. Ooooo... That is a fab color! Decor is still up at our house. Mostly because we're all coming down with something, blah. But, I'm itching to get it out away and so some major cleaning and organizing.

  14. I got all of my interior decorations down yesterday and my house back in order. I'm loving how much better my basement is organized this year to put away holiday decorations too. It helped immensely! My outdoor decorations are still up. I will take those down when weather permits.

  15. I love that color, too, Kim. It is one of the ones I have sitting here to use on a project. I am trying to figure out what I want to use it on. I am LOVING the piece you did and I like it better than the Old Violet. I have that on a small piece in our sitting room and although I LIKE it...I don't LOVE it...maybe that will be the piece I redo.

I haven't taken a thing down yet. I'll wait until after the little girls have their big sleepover on New Year's Eve. Hope you have a great day-xo Diana

  16. The blue chalk paint is beautiful. I especially like the tones in your "dusk" shot.

I am surprised to read that so many are taking down their Christmas decorations. Is that a "southern" thing? I live in a small "yankee" town and we celebrate Christmas until Epiphany on Jan 5. The week after Christmas is the traditional load the kids in the car in the evening with the leftover Christmas cookies and drive around to admire the Christmas lights.

You have such a lovely home and such a clever decorating style. I enjoy and admire your creations.

  17. Hi Kim,

WOW! It does look wonderful! I love how the wax really makes the dresser shine. It gives it that wonderful aged look. The color is perfect for your room!

  18. This is one of my favorite all time pieces that you've done! We don't usually put away the ornaments until after the 1st, but this year I'm itching to get it started and all fresh and clean for spring. We have so many projects to get started, that I just want to get on with it =)

  19. I love that color too! Although I don't know if it is just because of your talents or the actual color :)

  23. Glad to hear that I'm not the only one who has taken down the Christmas decor, I always get an itch (it starts on Christmas day, with nothing to do) to start putting things away A.S.A.P. I recently picked up an ASCP in old white, and I do like how the paint turns out! Your chest looks lovely, makes me want to go and pick up more ASCP colors. Thanks for stopping by my blog, I can't wait till tonight's link party.
