Two Thumbs Up

12.31.2011

I thought I would do a couple of movie reviews. Mr. Savvy and I go to the movies when there is something worth spending the money on. We have seen a few new ones in the last couple of weeks.

War Horse, directed by Steven Speilberg, is one of the BEST movies by far this year. I put it at the top with The Help that we saw earlier this year. I could not believe one review I found on this movie that said it was more like bore horse. Really? Don't know why anyone would say that. Mr. Savvy and I both loved it.

Beautiful cinematography in this movie.

I was hoping to find some of the scenes with more of the decor in them. I couldn't help but notice that a lot of the vintage things we collect now are in this film. Leather books, baskets, copper, old shutters and more.

Not really a tear jerker movie, but you made need the tissues a couple of times.

Next up is Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol
Mr. Savvy wasn't sure he wanted to go see this because he doesn't care for Tom Cruise very much. Really? What? Well, I do so we went and guess what? Mr. Savvy liked it. He thought it was the best of the Mission Impossible movies.

It is hard to believe that Tom did his own stunts.

I think he has to ride on top of a vehicle in every MI film.

Both of these were good. If you are looking for something to do on New Year's eve besides partying why not go see a good movie.

Sherlock Holmes was pretty good, too, but I prefer these two over that one.

Don't forget the popcorn and candy!

  7. Tom Cruise is an okay actor... I just lost interest in him after he did the jumping on the couch thing on Oprah's show and dissed on Brooke Shields when she was taking meds for post natal depression. He just got kind of weird there for a while. He does good action flicks though.... I guess... LOL

  8. HA! Your hubby doesn't like Tom Cruise!!! LOL Whenever I hear a guy say that, I think of an equivalent 'top dog' in their industry...Martha Stewart!! Why?? I know....how could these two relate??

Well, they are BOTH titans in their line of work, who stumbled publically and pay dearly for it, who picked themselves up and kept on going doing what they are best at and have triumphed over tough times to come out on top again.

They also still both have people who feverantly don't like them because of their amazingness (is that a word?)and their mistakes. I think they both ROCK!!! They both add so much to our lives and show us that we too can make it through the tough times, hold our heads up high and continue to fufill our purpose!!! Love Tom. Love Martha. They are both Top Guns!!! :)

  9. Wow, as good as The Help, huh? That's saying something. But I'm so glad you gave it the girls' thumbs up. My hubs really wants to see it but I hate tearjerker animal movies. I guess if nothing else, I'll just concentrate on the set decorations. I loved Sherlock Homes and MI too, surprisingly. The theatre was so full for MI that we had to sit on the front row - that was definitely an experience! You should go see New Years Eve. It was really sweet. I bet you'll love it. And Happy New Year to you!

  13. Happy New Year, Kim! Thanks for the reviews. I want to see War Horse for sure. Two of my boys tried to see Ghost Protocol last night but it was sold out! I've been so bad keeping up with my favorite bloggers lately, glad I took time to catch up on some of your past posts. As always, great photos, great inspiration.

Best wishes to you and your family for a fantastic New Year!

  16. Hi Kim!
I have been looking forward to seeing War Horse. Had no interest in the Mission Impossible.. I mean I do like, (strike that) Love! Tom Cruise, but figured I would wait until video.. Maybe I'll go see it after your review! If your husband liked it, maybe mine will too!! (mine isn't a T.C. fan either, lol)
    Happy New Year!!

  19. My mom and sister took my neice & nephew to "War Horse" and said it was wonderful. My SH (sweet husband) and I are going to "Sherlock Holmes," as I am a huge fan of Victorian-era literature. Plus I love the production value. I'll show "War Horse" when it comes out in video, because that'll be just about the time we are wrapping up out unit on WWI (I teach Social Studies as well as English.) Have a happy New Year!

  22. We saw War Horse and loved it. My 11 yr old daughter did NOT want to see this movie (she was just being moody) but at the end she said it was the BEST movie she had ever seen! I curse my problem of falling asleep at the theatre every time, not because it's boring, it's just something I do!:) The parts I did see were great!

  24. Great recommendations!!! We have friends who every year go to the movies on New Years Eve and are home before the crazy drivers. Hopefully, we can go to the movies tomorrow.

  25. I am such a horse lover that the ads make me want to dry...I am afraid to see it unless it has a happy ending....and how can someone so cool in a movie be so wierd in real life???? Tom Cruise is amazing in a movie! I will wait for the DVD...probably on obht. Does War Horse have a happy ending????? :) Sandy

  26. Wow. I'm surprised. I think I would be more inclined to see War Horse if their ads were more compelling. What I've seen/heard has been very stiff and forced. Oh well. I'll wait and catch "On Demand" which is how I do most of my movie viewing. I'm such a homebody!

    Happy New Year!
