Our Flooring

1.31.2012

I get emailed lots of questions, but the number one question is what are our wood floors and how do I clean them because they are always shining so I thought I would share the information.

This is the image from Armstrong Flooring of the flooring we purchased. The shine is built in so I don't really do anything to make them shine.
You can find out all the information about it by clicking on the highlighted link. It is an exotic solid hardwood flooring.

I vacuum almost daily with my Dyson vacuum cleaner and I mop with the Hahn Steam cleaner about every ten to fourteen days. More often if needed.
I had a different brand of steam mop and it didn't last but a few months. I must say I love the Hahn cleaner. I am not being compensated in any way for saying this. Just wanted to share what I use.

Here is a quick shot of our floor. Oh, excuse the red sofa cushions against the wall. Had to remove them for the mister to lay on the sofa with his bad back.

Now, I am off to get my hair highlighted and then take Mr. Savvy to the doctor!

See you tonight for Wow!

  1. That's what I do -- though with a regular swiffer vaccuuming by the kiddos and me following with the steam mop every ten days or so.

  2. Your floors are so shiny! Does the steam cleaner keep the floor relatively dry? My whole house is pretty much wood floors and I usually wash them by hand with a little Murphy's Oil Soap and vinegar because I don't want lots of water on the floor.

  3. I didn't know you could use a steam cleaner on a wood floor. My BFF raves about hers, so maybe I should look into one.

  6. What gorgeous floors! I may need to get what you use, always look for ways to keep them glistening and shiny, like yours. Now I know! Oh my, your poor hubby must be in so much pain, sending him some healing angels! Hope they make it to Georgia soon!

  11. Thanks for this info, Kim! I am in the need for a new vacuum so am going to look for a Dyson. The Hahn sounds like JUST what I need too! I hope Mr. Savvy's back feels better soon. I have a bad back too so know how painful it is! I went to the site and it said the floors were a medium gloss. Do you ever wish they were a high gloss???? I am thinking of getting ours reglossed, and thought I wanted a high gloss. XO, Pinky

  13. I should of read this post sooner and I would of been reminded of the little voice that says.... Bliss... Bliss..... don't color your own hair it always comes out wrong. Today I'm not the same as I was yesterday and I'm not enjoying that. Hope your highlights are perfect, although misery does love company!

  14. I have a question, are the floors you have "laminate flooring"? That's what I have but read from the manufacturer and reading online that you can't use steam mops on those floors as they're hyper sensitive to liquid.
Just curious if that's not the case if you have laminate?

  18. Hoping Mr. Savvy is up and around soon. Your floors are lovely and I am jealous of the shine. We put in a very expensive laminate with a 25 year warranty but I wish I had researched it more because I could have got hardwood for the price we paid.

  19. Hope Mr. Savvy is on the mend, soon! And, thanks for sharing your secret weapons ... I LOVE my Dyson ... BUT, I need to find a good cleaner for our wood floors ... I've always been a bit leary of steam cleaners because a rep once told me that the steam could be bad for the wood. I'll look into the steam mop you use, for sure! Thanks!

  26. Your hardwood floors are gorgeous! I love your wood selection. I chose maple floors in a mahogany finish for our home (exotic hardwood wasn't in the budget) and unfortunately, it's quite soft. It shows every mark and ding. With a hubby, two teenagers, and a dog, my floors are starting to look a little beat up! I keep telling myself it adds character!

  27. I'm glad to read this. We also have hardwood floors and I run the sweeper daily and damp mop a couple of times a week. We've talked about getting a steamer and I wasn't sure if I'd like one. I'll check into the brand you recommend.

  29. Well duh...didn't know I could use a steam mop on my floors. Your floors are lovely. Thanks for the post...I will be borrowing moms to give it a try.

  30. My steam mop is so dependable just like yours! It served its purpose for almost 3 years and still gets the cleaning perfectly done! It’s not always about what flooring materials that we need to consider but also the way we take good care of it and maintaining.
