It Was Bugging Me

3.19.2012

Do you notice things differently in photos? I know I do. It is a good way to see things that may need a little tweaking or editing. The post I shared with you today had a problem and it was driving me nuts.

The sign I showed you hanging above the toilet was a little too high and my OCD would not let it stay that way. So out came the hammer and I lowered it a few inches.

I know you can't see the difference here, but it is definitely lower.

Here, this will make it easier for you.  What a difference in the white balance on my camera, too. The wall on the right, which is the before looks dirty compared to the one on the left.

I am one who can't stand pictures, signs, etc. hung too high above things and I went and did it myself. It is hard to judge where to hang art over a toilet though, but I like it better in the left picture.

Now I have to fix the holes. Ugh!
It is just the way things roll around here just like Mr. Savvy's eyes.

If you missed my post earlier today you can scroll down to the one before this one.

  1. Kim- LOL- I have to tell you that I noticed that right away...but, me being me, didn't say anything. I thought maybe it was just the angle you were taking it from. It looks much better lowered. MyHero would hang everything above his head if I let him. I think a lot of people put their pictures too high...but that's just me. xo Diana

  2. I like it lower and I did notice it. I often take pictures to view how my things really look. I don't know why the camera seems to show it better.

  3. Me, three ... noticed and figured you wanted it that way.

I have been known to put my nose on the wall to mark a spot when hanging a picture. Nose print on the wall = eye level for hanging ... no tape measure necessary.

  4. It definitely looks better lowered.

When I'm decorating something & I'm unsure about it, I grab my camera for a "second opinion." For some reason, I see things much clearer looking at the picture than I do looking at the actual thing! lol

  6. Well I love the new picture and I like it hung a little lower too. That is the beauty of picture taking for our blogs, it does help us see things from a slightly different perspective! I have a few things that are a tad too high around here too, but unlike you, the energizer bunny, I haven't done anything about it!

  10. Aren't we a bunch of nice diplomatic people! I really wanted to say that it might look better lowered, but since not being there in person, I figured it was just me. I do like this picture more than the apples. Good job!

  12. Kim I am just like you! Pictures should be hung at eye level, I just had this discussion with my cousin who always hangs things way to high and it drives me crazy! But I can tell her because she is always wants my opinion.

  13. I didn't see the earlier post cause I ahve been BUSY all day but I can see from the 2 pics that it is much better lower. Love the picture too. XO, Pinky

  15. Oh, I'm so glad you posted this! It makes me feel better knowing that I'm not the only one who calls something done, then walks past is a day or two later and just HAS to tweak it until it's absolutely RIGHT! (The Ogre's eyes roll a lot, too.) - Liz

  16. Kim, you are so funny...in a good way! I am also OCD on things that does not seem to bother other people...especially when it comes to decorating. Ever since I started my blog, I go back and look at the pictures because, like you said, things look different in them. When my husband saw a picture of our family room, he exclaimed how great it looked...even though he has been seeing it for months!

  17. I'm right there with ya! I can't stand when stuff is hung too high. Drives me crazy. So, obviously I like it lower. :)

  19. I get it - completely! One of my biggest peeves is pictures hung too high!

  20. It looked a bit high to me too, but I thought it might have been the camera angle, knowing how good you are at getting things just right. My pictures are usually low, because I put them about MY eye level..which is around 5 ft. Actually, I try to hang them just above MY eye level, so it doesn't look too weird for other folks.

  21. I noticed it right away, but figured you wanted it that way and were planning on hanging something smaller below it, like a plate or small wreath......hugs...cleo

  22. If you are about 5'6" tall your nose should be in center of pic...I am 5'3" so I follow that and then raise it a bit because I am shorter...this works about 80% of the time...all large mantle pictures are on the mantle leaning not hung...these are the only tips my designer friends would give up...lol...love the room color and the crown...

  23. Looks great.
Yep, fellas like things hung high...wonder why that is. However, I hung a mirror once and Mr. Sweet couldn't see but half his bod in it. hahhhaaaa...I think that is so funny. I DID raise it just a bit. :)

I do the same with my rooms...i take photos and see how they look. It's a great way to get things right, I think

  25. Hey Kim,
    I totally understand your OCDness.
I've got it too and can't sit still and relax if I see something in the room that needs changed around! LOL!

    Love the picture.

  27. I noticed it right away and thought hmmmm, that doesn't seem like Kim, I bet she fixes it. I was right. You have such a great eye. That would drive me crazy, too.

  28. Ha! You would fall over if you could see how many nail holes there are (in plaster walls) behind my HEAVY door-turned-mirror over my living room fireplace! I've thought about changing it out, but knowing what's behind it stops me. Yikes!

  29. It's always the details that jump out at us isn't it. The, not quiet right, and I can't rest til I figure it out. I agree, it looks better lowered.

  30. Kim, I have to tell you that I didn't notice it but now that it is moved I do notice the difference.

  31. Aw, that picture is from where I grew up as well. Wonder if I know your hubby? I tend to hang my pictures too low, maybe because I'm short. I cracked up at Hartwood Roses' comment that she uses her nose to mark the spot- great idea! :)

  32. Kim, I am sooo like you. Can't stand when a picture isn't the right height and have to change it right away....meaning filling holes and paint touch up! It's always a comfort to know I'm not alone. :-)

  33. So many uninlightened (ha!) people hang their wall art too high. And sometimes, I let things bug me for too long, when it doesn't take much to fix it. Then I say, why didn't I do that sooner!

    ReplyDelete
  34. And...where's the "white balance" on your Rebel? Is it a built in feature? I've got the book and need to dive in a lot deeper! Looks good!

  35. I agree the lower is better! Laura

  36. I do this ALL THE TIME! My number one pet peeve is pictures hanging too high! I have lowered a small platter hanging over my mantel TWICE! SHUT.UP! My husband just laughs at me all the time!

    Yours sign is perfect! LOL

    Lou Cinda :)

P.S. I really go nuts when I go to someone's house and a picture is hanging 10 feet above the back of the couch! OMG!! I want to say, before we go any further, hand me a hammer!!! LOL!

  37. I so agree Kim can't stand pics too high, yours could even go a tad lower....

You mentioned you have OCD, do little things out of place really bug you??? I have a friend with it and she says a crooked mirror can make her stop what she's doing because she has to fix it...exhausting at times she says...

Have a great day, I so enjoy your blog.

    Kathy :)

  39. I always see things in my pictures that I don't see in real life. I think I get used to things like lamp cords etc. and then when I take a picture they drive me nuts!
