Ready For Guests

5.10.2012

On Friday our son, daughter in law, and three grandchildren will be arriving for a weekend visit so I have been sprucing up the guest rooms. I snapped some pictures of the room that was my son's when he lived here. This is where he and our dil stay. Most of y'all have seen this room before and it has only had some accessories changed. I know, can you believe it? I have contemplated changing this room.

I know it is hard to believe, but the items on the shelves had stayed the same for years so I changed them up a little. I added the Lake Rabun sign and the black dogs.

I kept the sailboat which was purchased at Home Goods years ago.

I kept this fellow from the flea market, too.

This funny guy was on the shelves, but I moved him down to the trunk.

The trunk is one of the first antiques we purchased around 34 years ago for $55. Makes the perfect nightstand.

This pillow that I ordered years ago was the start to how this room came about.

For those new here I purchased the vintage swimsuit on ebay and framed it in this shadowbox.

I am seriously thinking about painting over this armoire again. Just not loving it.

The navy shirt was Mr. Savvy's and I framed it last year.

I think I need to paint that cherry nightstand, too. Hmmmmm.
Color suggestions?

Alright, let's check my list for getting ready for guests:
1. Put clean sheets on beds.
2. Dusted and vacuumed rooms.
3. Cleaned bathrooms.
4. Clean towels are ready.

Still to do:
1. Buy groceries.
2. Mow grass.
3. Run vacuum through main floor again.
4. I will remove the abundance of pillows so they don't have to.

Yep, think that's it.

  7. This is such a great room, Kim. I could just imagine looking out the window to see a lake with some sail boats on it. Your cabin print fit in well here. That navy blue color that Ann from On Sutton Place used in her kitchen might look good in here ~ either for your armoire or the side table.

  12. I have always loved this room! How about a deep red on the nightstand/and/or armoire? There's a beautiful red chalk paint, but I can't remember the name of it off the top of my head. AS has two...a bright red, and a deep one which looks amazing with dark wax.

  13. I love this room. You truly, truly, truly have the best taste. What color are you thinking for the armoire? Would you ever paint it faded red and super distress it?

    Just a thought :)

  15. I've always loved this room. The vintage swimsuit and your husband's sailor uniform framed are my favorite touches. Such a great room for your family to stay in while visiting. Any thoughts on colors for the armoire? I always love to see what you come up with. Have a lovely visit!

  21. It's such a lovely room, Kim! And it's very 'grown up' and yet still has a touch of whimsical boy's room as a tribute to your son. I think a chalk red would be beautiful on that armoire! And it would fit with the other red touches you have throughout the room and tie in with the nautical motif. (And you could try to find ROPE pulls for that bottom drawer!)

  22. When can I stay? What a gorgeous room!
Re; the armoire, just my taste but I would add more white paint, so it's less washy. But that's me. MORE washy might look great too, ie take off more of the white paint so there is very, very little on it... again, that's me.

  28. How exciting that your son and his family will be visiting you. I still like the nautical theme in the room. What would your son say if you changed it? LOL
When our son moved away, he said he probably wasn't out the door 5 minutes before I changed everything in his room...well, maybe I waited 30 min. :)
Have a great weekend and fun with the grands.

  40. It is hard to believe that you haven't changed it around in that length of time. YOU? Seriously? You know, Kim, the thing of it is that the way it is decorated is just timeless. Nautical never really goes out of style and you have some great accent pieces in there. What a nice place for them to stay when they "come home" to visit.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend with the kids and enjoy Mother's Day and don't have to do too much work. xo Diana

  46. Can't wait to see what you do with the armoire! I think it will look great when you add your "magic". I'm also interested to see what color you choose for the nightstands. I've been wanting to paint mine in the master bedroom but can't decide what color. My current finish looks the same as your guest room furniture. Happy Mother's Day!

  47. I thought a man in your home might have worn that Navy coat, but I'm a little disappointed that bathing suit ever went out of style.

I'll be waiting to hear where the grand kids bunk!
