Oh So French Blue

6.09.2012

I had a different post to share today, but something arrived on my front porch today and I just couldn't wait to share it. I have been wanting one of these vintage bread boxes for so long and usually they are very pricey. I was browsing some blogs the other day and was looking at Kelley's post from the blog The Polished Pebble and she was sharing some of her latest finds for her shop. One of them was this gorgeous bread box.

When I first saw it my heart skipped a beat. Just look at that wonderful French blue and the chippiness.

I immediately clicked on her shop and found it. I was afraid it was going to be over my budget for one of these, but it wasn't.

My finger hit the add to cart button so fast and it was mine. I almost felt like I was trying to outbid someone on ebay. Thank goodness I didn't have to do that.

It is very old and worn and has some rust just the way I like it.

I threw these hydrangea blooms in it just for these shots, but it will reside in the kitchen.

Now I can stop looking for one of these because I have the perfect one.

Oh happy day!

Is there anything you are still on the search for?

Oh, and this is what I am doing this weekend. Finally painting the bathroom cabinets.
After sixteen years they need it.

  1. Gorgeous! I had been on the hunt for a bread box also. I bought one on ebay cream with green letters and just a week later I found one with red letters that I originally wanted, I bought it also. So now I have two. I LOVE it!!!
I am on the hunt for a french market basket with wheels! I have been searching for months.

Great find! Have a great weekend.

  2. Oh I love it. I missed out on a blue one several years ago at an auction. I was bidding for it at a local auction and thought I was high bidder and didn't raise the bid, naturally. I was not the high bidder. It was very confusing and I was mad and very sad all at the same time. I have an old chippy one but it is a soft buttercream one. I heart yours. Perfect!

  7. I love that blue enamel, and have always thought of it as 'Danish Blue' because I have a very large collection of it - pots, kettles, coffee pots, colanders, soap containers, ladles - all collected over many years of holidays with The Great Dane's family. I love them and wish I had a place to display everything.

  9. What a great blue and stunning with your lovely hydrangeas, Kim. I have a reproduction white bread box, a gift from a friend for some sewing, that I love. Looking forward to the cabinet reveal as our main bathroom cabinets could use a colour update.
