Did You Know?

7.22.2012

Did you know that today is National Hammock Day? I didn't either until I received an email telling me so. Not sure why I got the email. I must be on the national register of hammock owners or something. lol

July 22, 2012 is

Hammock Day

Picture this: it's mid-July, the sun shines and you rest on a hammock, completely relaxed. This is the essence of Hammock Day.
Today’s reason to celebrate reminds us to slow down, breathe easy and enjoy these beautiful summer months. Though its exact origins are unknown, it is said that hammocks originated hundreds of years ago in South America. Allegedly, the journals of Christopher Columbus provide the first documentation of the hammock. However, some sources attribute this invention to the Ancient Greeks. One thing is for sure—hammocks have always been symbols of leisure.
Today, take a few minutes to sit back and unwind on a hammock. Don’t have one? No problem! Just grab some sturdy fabric and rope—you can make yourself one in no time. Happy Hammock Day!

Room for two want to join me?

 Happy Hammock Day!

  2. I just love hammocks but don't have any trees close enough together to hang one ~ I think we should have thought about that when we were planting our trees 16 years ago :)

  11. My dream is to have a hammock one day and then the next dream would be to take the time to lay down it it! We have a great old maple tree in out backyard that would be the perfect spot. I love your quilt- it looks like one I picked up at a second hand store I visited in Amish Country yesterday!

  14. Happy Hammock Day, Kim!!!
I do have a hammock, just never hung it. The other day my son and I went looking for the right hooks by they did not have it at our closest hardware store.
I miss being part of your parties! I had to go to Brazil just came back on Friday. I am going to London on Tuesday, so will be active painting my furniture just in August!
I hope everything went well when your family came to visit and everybody had a good time!
    Cheers,

  15. The thought of a hammock is seductive - especially with the photo you've posted. We bought a hammock years ago and never put it up - I don't know why...

  16. Love the cozy hammock. Those flowers on the tree are so cute. But that rock would have to go. I would fall out and bang my head for sure. Hah.

  26. I just layed in one a couple of weeks ago and now I am hooked! It was so soothing and relaxing... could we just postpone things until things cool down around here??? I think you have the right idea, hang it near water so that you can trick yourself into feeling a little cooler than it really is!

  30. This is so funny because 1) I did not know it was hammock day and 2) I got the hammock down this weekend that has been sitting in a box for two years and set it up in the back yard! Now I just have to use it sometime!
