Time to Say Buh Bye Cherry

Are you ready for another change that I made in the guest room? This has been an ongoing project with a few minor changes. I painted the armoire red several weeks ago. This time it's the bed. I just could not stand the cherry any longer. I have been wanting to paint this bed for a long time and finally did it. It has made a huge change in this room. It is not an expensive piece of furniture. This was a purchase we made from Rooms To Go many years ago after our son moved out so I had no problem painting over this mass produced piece.

I ordered a can of Pure White chalk paint from my sponsor and when it came I couldn't wait to use it.

I painted two coats of paint on and started to do a third, but realized that wasn't necessary since I wanted to sand some back off to heavily distress it.

I love how the details came out with the paint.

Have to show you the headboard without the bedding in the way.

I love the Pure White. Two coats of paint, some sanding and then a coat of clear wax and done.
This took me a couple of days of stop and start painting and finishing.

This is what the bed looked like before. It is cherry no more.

Stay tuned for the way this room looks now.

I was going to say, I want to see what it looks like all finished! Guess i will have to wait. I am not a big fan of painting wood, but I think I might like this one.

Totally get it. I painted several dark wood pieces we inherited. Love, lover the new look of the bed. That's a lot of detail for a rooms to go bed. Great job!!

Girl - you are a painting machine. I love the change, but I"m not sure I would have been brave enough to paint over the wood. Good for you as it does give the room a whole new look.

You are really skilled with the distressing I can't wait to see the bed all dressed. I recently read about waxing before you distress, they said it avoids lots of the mess that you get with Chalk Paint. Have you tried this technique?

Kristin @ Simply Klassic Home said...

It looks amazing! I think I'm becoming a chalk paint junkie. I kinda love it.

I love it too. I keep trying to figure out what ASCP color to use on a craigslist hutch I purchased and now, seeing the pure white, I FINALLY made my decision. Thank you for sharing Kim. I don't know where you find the time to do all you do and Blog about it to.....but I am glad you do.

This will be a huge change! I love pure white from ASCP!
I have a couple of really good pieces of mahogany that I would love to paint, but it would ruin it's value.
I am thinking of painting the cherry dresser and chest of drawers in my master bedroom... they were, like your, not heirloom quality. But our bed... mahogany... and too expensive to change!
I really love the peek you have given us, but then again... I love everything you do! You are always SPOT ON!
