A Surprise

8.16.2012

I was so surprised to receive a very thoughtful gift from a super sweet blog friend. Do y'all know bj of Sweet Nothings? If you don't you should. She shares all kinds of yummy treats and recipes on her blog and a few fabulous home decor things thrown in as well.

Mr. Savvy brought the mail in when he came home from work and said, like he always does, you have a package here. I see you are ordering stuff again. I was racking my brain thinking what did I order? Then I opened it and this is what was inside. This sweet gift wrapped with that darling gingham ribbon and cute card. Of course, I had to grab my camera before ripping into it.

bj thought of me when she found this small vintage leather book. I can't imagine why? lol

It is Dombey And Son by Charles Dickens. Now, I am not a reader like my mom, but I just love old leather books. Love to feel them and love the old smell they are filling my sitting room with.

The book is in pretty good condition for being so old.

The only date to be found inside is this one from a previous owner. 12-20-1931. Probably someone's Christmas gift that year.

Have any of you bookworms read this?

Thanks so much, bj. You are just too kind.

Speaking of books a new E book has just been released and it is full of front porch decorating ideas  by bloggers and my fall front porch from 2011 is included. You can click on this affiliate link if you would like to find out more and purchase one for $6.95.

  1. Kim, I haven't read that one but I love Dickens, and this beautiful old book looks like it has a story behind it. (no pun intended!) That was precious of her to wrap it so thoughfully and send it to you!

  6. That was so sweet of BJ! What a wonderful leather book.

I found a new to me great antique store in Biltmore Village recently that carries French, English and Swedish antiques. The owner let me go down in the basement to their storage area. It was filled with antique leather bond books, from Sweden. I bought 6 of them. They were a wonderful price too. I am waiting until we move to our next home and hope to use them on a mantel.

  11. I love old books, and I especially collect any that I find by Charles Dickens (my very favorite author). Dombey and Son is a wonderful story - really more about Dombey's daughter than his son. . .All of C.D.'s novels, at least almost all of them, were released in serial version, and were eagerly anticipated by his audience. Maybe get it from the library so as to keep your lovely present from any potential damage. That is a very sweet book!
