Back in the Breakfast Room

8.30.2012

A few days ago I shared where I moved the picture from the breakfast room to the stair landing. I also said it was kind of obvious where the cow hangings moved to. I don't have many walls in this house to hang anything on and really the only logical place for the cows was to return to their original home in the breakfast room.

After having the other picture hang here for several months I just couldn't get used to it. I have to have this extra color in here.

This look was fine, but I feel like the cows pop more here and add that whimsy I like.

It is so hard to get a clear shot of these cow hangings.

For more color I added three of my majolica plates.

Did you notice my red tool carrier? I painted my black one with Tricycle Red Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint. I love the new look.

I filled it with hydrangeas recently cut from my bush. They have dried nicely.

This was one coat of Tricycle Red and then waxed. I have also used it on something else that I will share later and neither piece had any peeling.

So for now the cows are happy in their original home.
MOOOOOOOO

I'm still not completely in love with the burlap drapes. Oh, just thinking out loud here.

  1. The cows look nice and they do add a touch of color. I think what I miss is your plaid drapes the most. I thought they were stunning and added such personality to the room. Love, love, loved them. Hugs, Marty

  2. I like the cows best in the breakfast room, and I do like the burlap drapes, both because of the texture and the neutral color. I can't wait to see the red tool carrier in a Christmas vignette! (I know, thinking way ahead!)

  3. I so want those cow prints! I forget where you said you ordered them. The house looks amazing as ever, Kim. Have a great holiday weekend!

  4. Kim - the room looks good either way! I like the burlap drapes and think that first print really blended well. The cow prints and tool carrier (and plates) add more color and look good in the room also! You worry too much LOL. You always do a good job decorating and need to be satisfied with what you do. You are so creative - perhaps you need an additional outlet for that. Have you considered volunteer work? I bet you could find someplace that would really benefit from your creativity.

  21. I loved the old painting, but once I see the before and after, I agree that the cows are better here, and the painting better on your stair landing. Love the tool box with hydrangeas, and I think the burlap curtains are lovely.

What neat cow pictures. They do look nice in your dining room, especially with the green
    majolica plates.
Hydrangeas are my favorite flower-I wish I didn't live too far north to grow them! Your
red tool tote really makes them pop.

  23. Love the red toolbox. I have an obsession with red and love the color. I like the drapes but maybe they need a heavier backing so they are not so "light" looking? I like the cows. It would be interesting to see them hanging slightly lower even though it would overlap the wainscoting but it may combine the two spaces and reduce the separation line. Great post as always!

  24. Kim, I LOVE the cows back in the kitchen - they are so interesting! Since you mentioned it, while the burlap is nice, I really did like the other drapes better - more wow factor. It still looks good, just offering my 2 cents since you asked :) Linda

  25. LOL, Kim! This is truly a full circle story for those cows. I really do think they look best here and add such a lot to this wall. Your wood tote looks great red. Didn't you have red check drapes in here originally? If you still have them, maybe a change over for the Fall and Winter would work well.

  26. Well, I like the cows there- I think you are secretly a farm girl at heart. You like your animals and you like yard work...I do, too....but for me it is a natural having been born and raised on a farm.

Great job there, Kim, just like always- xo Diana

  42. I love that shade of milk paint. Looks so nice on the toolbox. Like the majolica plates, too. Just fyi, I keep getting a pop up on my Mac, every time I come to your blog, saying it has blocked 'i.copygator.com' as a dangerous website. I haven't blogged in 2 years, and had a pop-up like that come-up on mine, too. Seems like I'm seeing a lot more of that. Have a fun weekend. Hope you feel better b/c I miss seeing your shopping posts. ;o)

  50. Hi Kim,
I'm so glad the cow prints are back in the breakfast room. I loved them in there! I'm always checking One King's Lane hoping they carry them again. I really want them! Your whole room is so gorgeous!! Love the red tote on the table. It looks fabulous! Maybe add some red gingham or something to the tops of the burlap curtains? I like them the way they are but maybe you are craving some more color?
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!!

  51. I just gotta say, I luv luv luv the color of your dining room table. And, I have to get me some Tricycle Red (Miss Mustard Milk Paint) - Red is my favorite color for my family room in AZ and your tool carrier has really inspired me. Your blog rocks my world. Love it.

  52. Jeanne, the prints are hung above the beadboard with a ledge wainscotting. That is the only way they can be hung. I know the normal way to hang art and most of my art is hung low when it can be. The chandy is also hung at 30 inches above the table.

    thanks

  53. p.s. not that you asked but a lantern light fixture would look so fabulous in this room. :)

As for your tool caddy. . . hmmm. Now you have my wheels turning. I have an old (looking) tool caddy. I'm thinking it might need a light coat of something. Thanks for the inspiration! :)

  61. Well, as much as I love cows, I have none in my home. How did that happen!? This has to be rectified! Yours look wonderful. Isn't it nice to have options!? Did your husband notice? :)

  62. You were right Kim - the cows do like it better in the breakfast room. I've never had a hankering for an antique tool box til now! Thanks a lot! lol Hope you're feeling better! There's no good time to have a yucky cold, but it always seems more miserable to me in the Summer. Have a great weekend!

  63. I love the return of the cows in the breakfast room, Kim.

The red toolbox with hydrangeas is wonderful. Our poor hydrangeas are finally getting rain, via Isaac remnants. Too late for this year, but maybe they will come back.

  65. Wow! I love the combination of that yellow table, the red tool box, and the plants inside. Very awesome.

  66. Think the cows & plates give the room more color and personality. Love your yellow table and red tool box and they definitely add a pop of color. Have you thought about maybe adding some trim ir a stripe to your cutains to give them a little more color? I think the fabric goes well there--somewhat rustic like your table, cows, and tool box.
