Chocolate Slips....The Reveal

8.03.2012

A few months ago I had decided that I wanted to lose the dark red colored sofa in the sitting room, but the sofa is very well made and only a few years old. I knew buying a new one would get me a lesser quality sofa for the price I could afford so I checked out the price of getting slipcovers made instead. I am so glad I did and love how this sofa looks now. I showed some of the progress pics the other day to just tease you so here is what it looks like now. First let's take one more look at how it looked red.

I do like the red, but was ready for a change plus miss Bailey had really done a number on one of the cushions.

When I called the slipcover guy I asked him if he could make a slipcover out of upholstery weight velvet. He said if I had called earlier he would have said no because his machine and needles weren't strong enough, but he had just ordered a new machine and scheduled me for three weeks later.

This velvet is called "antiqued". I ordered a few swatches of different colors and this one won hands down.

I purchased this pillow from Joss & Main with a credit I had. This was a good purchase from them. I had told y'all about the bench in the master bedroom that wasn't so good. This is a kilim pillow and the back is brown velvet with three big covered buttons going down  it. It came with a poly filled insert so I switched it with a down insert I had.

I already had the red pillow covers and I bought the golden tan colored ones at Pottery Barn outlet.

I love the details of this pillow cover. I bought these at Scott's last year.

I think this brown velvet goes better with the English style I have in this room.

There was some leftover fabric so I asked Jim if he could cover the cushion on this chair.
I see Bailey's dog toy is by the chair.

I guess she wanted me to quit taking pictures and play with her. This is where she will sit now since she is banned from the sofa. She can't hurt this leather chair. It is already super worn.

My favorite antique mall find is still this dog picture and it looks even better with this yummy chocolate below.

I shared my chandy shades from Restoration Hardware outlet score in the post before this one and here they are. Perfect color and fit.

This is an early morning shot. The sun pours in this room.
I switched out the floor lamp by the leather chair with one from another room.

The best part was the fabric was only $10.39 a yard!
So what do you think. Like the brown?

Oh, and how do I keep Bailey off? With foil. She won't jump up on it.

Later today will be the first guest blogger for my new series "My Favorite Room".

  6. I think it's beautiful! I bet it feels very soft to sit on too. Poor, poor Bailey. She is left to only reside on the cold leather chair. Boo hoo! That foil cracks me up. I think the only thing missing in that room now is a warm crackling fire...........when it's cold outside. Ha!

  7. Yes--Love the new brown color. It is warm and rich. Love the cushion on the chair also! As usual-what you do works well and looks wonderful!

  8. Oh my gosh the foil is brilliant. :o) I love the brown velvet of course...the slipcovers are gorgeously made too. You are lucky to have someone who will do such a great job. I can't find anyone around here who makes slipcovers. Another great makeover. I'm loving this room...

BTW, love the new color!! I live in Georgia, Hiawassee to be exact, would love this gentleman's name and number!!

  17. Oh, Kim, I really like the chocolate. So rich looking. Great deal on the chandy shades. I still can't believe an upholsterer who comes to the house and does slip covers on site. Wish we had someone who did that here.

  18. Wow! It's gorgeous! I'm not usually a fan of slip covers because they seem to always look messy & not fit correctly but you can't even tell that's what this is. I wish your guy was Baton Rouge. I'm sick of my sofa but it's only a couple of years old.

  25. Your new look is beautiful. Is that foil trick just Bailey or true with all dogs? So far our's hasn't jumped on the new white slipcovers. But, that is only because she is getting too old and can't jump.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Just beautiful Kim! I love the foil...we tried that with our old dachshund. Didn't work for us, she would nudge it out of the way. :)

  27. Kim, it looks so rich and warm now. It looks super comfy too!

  28. Kim: Looks great, was a really good choice for your hunting theme. I love just the cushion on the chair too, but poor Bailey. I'm so glad we started right out with Buddy not getting on the furniture. It's bad enough that he just rubs up against it!..Happy Thursday..Judy

  38. Nice, simple change for a new look, Kim. And a good price for the fabric, too! I never had any luck with the aluminum foil. Our cairn terrier schooched it off the sofa onto the floor and then made himself right at home. Too smart, that one! LOL

  39. Wow, those turned out wonderful, and to have them made right on site is fantastic. I would never guess they are slipcovers. Lovely space!!

  44. Beautiful Kim. Hard to believe those are slip covers. He did an amazing job! Never knew the foil trick, I may have to try that on my bed!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I was almost afraid to look because I liked the red but the brown is very rich looking. I should have known it would look great because I have not seen anything you have done that hasn't looked great. He did a good job on the couch and that is a slip cover and not upholstered? Could you email me his info because I have a chair I will want to get done once I get my fabric and the guy I had upholstered another chair is in Marietta, quite a distance for me.

    ReplyDelete
  46. TOTALLY yummy, now I'm craving ME some chocolate!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Luv the chocolate !! How can you go wrong with chocolate?? :D Gives the room a very cozy feeling. Yes, very English country indeed.

  54. NO, I don't like it - I LOVE it. I really did think, no don't get rid of the red - until I saw the chocolate. Kim it is beautiful. I love that the sofa isn't such a statement anymore and now the whole room becomes a statement, if that makes any sense. You have some gorgiferous prints, girlfriend. This is one beautiful room. So inspiring. xxoo

  61. Iit's wonderful Kim! Poor banished Bailey! Before Miss Gracie died, the only way we could keep her off rhe sofa was to stand the cushions up every time we left the room. The foil is a good idea - never thought of that! We used to place other stuff on the cushions but she always found a work-around!

I didn't even know there were "Slip cover" guys around! How do I find one? Of course I'm way up in NY near Canada, but I'm sure we have one too :) somewhere...
