French Country Finds

9.15.2012

Last Monday my mom and sister and I went out to lunch together for my birthday. After lunch we went and did a little shopping. Our first stop was Pottery Barn, but none of us bought anything. I'm sorry, but some of the prices were a little ridiculous for the same fall decorative items you can find elsewhere.

Next stop was Tuesday Morning which is right next to the mall. This Tuesday Morning store is HUGE and you can look in it for a very long time. I have only been in a few times because unless you know exactly what you are looking for it can be a bit mind boggling. I wasn't looking for anything in particular, while walking around with my sister, but when I spotted these chandelier shades I knew exactly where to use them.

These are very similar to the bee shades that Ballard's use to sell, but I think these are actually better. Sorry Ballard's. I have seen the ones from Ballard's and they are a high gloss shade which I did not care for and were over $24 each.

These have a nice matte black finish and have a textured feel to them.

When we got back to my house I couldn't wait to try them out. I put them on and my mom preferred the ones on here before because of the shape of them. The ones I had on here actually came with the chandy in the sitting room. My sister loved these new black shades on here and so do I. Love how they go with the black on the cow canvases and pop against the neutral walls and burlap curtains. You can see the previous shades here.

And at less than $5 each they are a sure winner in my book.
Oh, and excuse the cushion on my chair. I sit too low on those chairs so I use a cushion.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

  1. Great find, Kim! I think they go great with your chandelier in this room. They stand out nicely in that picture with the burlap drapes in the background. I have Home Goods and Tuesday Morning on my "go to" stores to get to within the next couple of weeks.

  8. Those look great Kim! Didn't you buy the Ballard shades once but they were not of good quality? I thought I remembered a post about some type of chandy shade. I will have to ask my moth run law if she has been to that Tuesday Morning.

  16. Kim, I like the new shades with this chandy. The black brings out the details of the chandy arms, and I always adore the bee motif. Great find!

  19. Kim, when I lived in Cali I was literally 3 minutes from a huge TM and I found the best stuff there. Random fabulous things I seldom "needed" but treasures nonetheless ;) These are great and the matte black is perfect in that room.

  20. Tuesday Morning is one of those odd retail stores I actually shop at and find odd useful items I may use. These shades look great on the chandelier.

  21. They look wonderful on your chandelier, you just can't go wrong with a little black in every room and this is just the right touch to bring out the black bands on your cow prints. I bet you did a little happy dance over your new treasures.

I was entertaining myself at a Tuesday Morning in the Outer Banks this summer on a rainy day and found the same shades. I fell in love with them too and couldn't believe the pricing. You just never know what goodies you'll find when you step through the doors but I agree the store setup is a little disruptive but I guess that is part of the "hunt". Thanks for sharing.

  32. Love the shades. They really make the chandy a star! I didn't even notice the cushion. You must be short. My mom was 4'11" and I was 5'7" by the time I was a teen. I always wanted to be short I guess because of my love for my mom. So neat that you got to have birthday lunch with your mom.
    Love to you, Ginger
