Signs of Fall

9.01.2012

Labor day marks the end of summer in a sense even though the actual first day of fall is still almost three weeks away. I have a September birthday (yep, will be 39 again) and use to always think it was in the fall, but it is really a summer birthday. I can't wait for the cool crisper morning air for my daily walks instead of the thick humid ones. I love the woodsy smell as the leaves change. This morning there were some signs of fall as leaves and acorns were already all over the path and a few muscadines. Mr. Savvy loves to eat those.

Fall also makes me think of a bowl of hot oatmeal on those cooler mornings, of course I eat it all year. I have always loved oatmeal and I saw this new multi grain one last time I shopped and thought I would try it out.

It cooks in just one minute after the water comes to a boil. Quick and easy works for me. After my morning 2.5 mile walk I am hungry.

I like to eat in the sun room when I am by myself so I set up this tray.

I used one of my old Williams Sonoma cereal bowls.

I have cut way back on sugar, but I must have just one teaspoon on my oatmeal.

Vintage silver plate spoon.

Vintage linen napkin with crocheted trim.

One of my new cow glasses from Pottery Barn outlet. Oh, well I guess the cow is hard to see.

There, now you can see it.

These sell as a set of six for $33 at Pottery Barn, but are sold separately for $3.99 each at the outlet. I bought four and may go get more.

Now that hit the spot.

I was finally able to get back to walking today after ten days of not from being sick and our trip last weekend. Feels good to get back at it.

I will share some antiquing finds later.

Have a fabulous holiday weekend

  1. I want to come for breakfast just to enjoy all your beautiful dishes. Love the cow print on the glasses. I am ready for Fall also, the Walnuts are starting to drop from the trees so I will need to collect them and our leaves are starting to change. It is 90 here in the day, but dropping to 50-60 at night and I just love the cool mornings.

  3. What a lovely setting, Kim. I love your PB dishes. I wish we could get some fall temps going. We had a slight cool down last week; but, this weekend the temps are back to 100. What I would give for some cooler weather.

  6. Your breakfast tray is so pretty, Kim. I love the vintage napkin and my 4-H boys would go crazy for the cow cups. We can't keep milk in the house because they drink so much. I love oatmeal, one of my favourite comfort foods. Have you ever tried it with brown sugar? That is my favourite. Or blueberries. Yum.

  19. Kim, sweetie, that's not new oatmeal ... Quaker had it years ago, discontinued it, and now I see that it's back. I loved it, and I practically went into mourning when I discovered that I couldn't get it anymore. Thank you SO much for featuring it today ... I am putting it on my grocery list and I will certainly be stocking up.

Don't even get me started on the subject of vintage silver ... it's a particular weakness of mine.

    Have a great weekend!

  22. That sounds delicious! We are big oatmeal eaters so I will have to be on the lookout at the store. Instead of sugar I put just a few raisins..satisfies my need for a little sweetness.

  23. I am an oatmeal in the morning gal, too. I do mine in the microwave. 1/3 cup oatmeal- 2/3 cup water and zap it for 2 mins. Comes our perfect everytime and I don't have to wait for water to boil.

Happy Sept birthday-when is it? Glad you are feeling better and that you are able to walk again- xo Diana
