Fall in the Sun Room

I truly loved the blue and red accents in my sun room, but y'all knew I would change it up again. For the cooler seasons I just made some simple changes with warmer colors by changing out the accessories. Don't worry the red and blues will be added back next year.

The red and blue was replaced with green and brown.

I changed out the blue and white plates to these green majolica and the brown and white transferware. I already had all these on hand.

Then I pulled out my green Pottery Barn pillow covers and the brown checked Ballard's covers which were also stored. The cute dog pillow is new from Pottery Barn on sale. This dog was as close to looking like Miss Bailey as I could get.

Actually I think Bailey is prettier than this dog. Just sayin.

I filled this vintage enamelware pitcher with real branches of cotton that dear Leo from Cottage at the Crossroads stole cut for me from a field and brought to the conference. Your the best, Leo.

I put my drop cloth table cloth back on the bamboo table. It  is a recycled drapery panel that was stored away. I changed out the demijohn base on the lamp to a larger one.

Changed out the accessories on the table by adding the cement rooster and a very old small dough bowl (that I have had forever and paid $10 for) filled with fruit and textured items.

Simple change of pillows and the accessories on the table on this side. The tall slim lamp was on the round table before and I decided to switch them when I beefed up the size of the demijohn lamp.

I added the trim, that I had stashed, to the bottom of this plain lampshade. I may go get some more and add it to the top, too.

I recently ordered this framed map of the southern states from Decor Steals.

My vintage mounted roe deer antlers are still over the windows on this side.

The vintage quilt, I found last weekend on the shopping part of the Southern Bloggers Conference, is thrown over the bench and can be grabbed and used when the weather gets colder.

Brought back in this old pillow cover from Pottery Barn and placed it on the bench on this side of the room.

View of the t.v. cabinet from my chair. I shared the vignette on top here.

The rug was also warmed up with this jute rug from PB that was also stored away. Now the sea grass rug has been stored. I'm telling you there is nothing like shopping the house. Good thing since I like to change things up.

Bailey says she likes the changes,

but now she just wants to be able to mess up the sofa and take a nap.

I hope everyone realizes this room does not look like this all the time. In fact it hardly ever looks like this. A cover goes on the sofa to keep it somewhat clean from Bailey's dirty paws. It is slipcovered though and can be washed and has been many times over the years. I blog in here and usually my laptop is laying out and my notebooks and pens. When I keep Leila it looks like a cyclone hit with toys, books, and crayons and pillows thrown everywhere. We do live in this room. When the summer version of this room was shared on facebook from Hometalk there were a few negative comments about it being too white and not for kids or pets. Most of the comments were very positive though. So funny the only white thing is the slipped sofa.

You can see the summer version of the sun room here

  11. Bailey is SO much cuter than the dog on the pillow!!! And I get (and appreciate) that the sunroom gets USED and MESSY! That's life. I love your pillow covers. I have so many PILLOWS, will have to start collecting just the covers to save some room! The sunroom looks so cozy for Fall in these colors. XO, Pinky

  19. Your sunroom is one of my favourites too. I love that you have the neutral base that can take colour changes so nicely, Kim. The best part is that you share your time with your loved ones in it.

  23. Always love to see what's up in your sunroom - and your cozy fall touches didn't disappint. And you know, a little messy now & then means your house is lived and loved in!!! I have started covering our furniture in our living room too, when we aren't using it since we have two cats & a dog who seem to love new furniture as much as I do!!! Your sunroom is lovely!!! Jane

  24. That's funny! We have white (off-white really) slips in our sunroom also. No kids but we do have a little dog, and that room is used each and every day. People don't realize how easy the white can be washed and even bleached if needed. Love the sunroom - both summer and fall.

What an amazing space, I would want to always be in that room!

I LOVE that wooden bench....and you are so right, Bailey DOES look much better than the pillow doggie - she's beautiful.

  28. Perfect. Love the checked pillows and the dog pillow too.

  29. Luv your sun room Kim. I too spend a lot of time in ours .
Master Vic ( our chocolate lab) spends most of his time out there in one of the 2 Pier 1 Imports woven chairs we have out there. We like to eat in ours as well, so the space is shared by a small wrought iron 4 seater table .
The change is wonderful. I still have a few weeks before I put down the rug on the porcelain tile floor though. Still in the high 70's and low 80's during the daytime.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful room.
    Cheers, Gee

  32. Kim, Bailey is waaaaay cuter that the dog on the pillow! But I like the dog pillow, too, along with the brown checked ones. I'm thinking that I need to slipcover a loveseat that I have since we have several pets. And the cotton really does bring a touch of nature to your room! It all looks gorgeous!

  33. I love the new look for fall.....everything always looks so amazing in your sunroom :o) I often wonder why people feel the need to comment on how perfect a room looks or how it is not livable because it has white. Who wants to see a dirty or messy room on a blog when you can look around your own home and experience it first hand?!?!?! @@

  35. KIm, I love your new dog pillow so much! Wnd your right, Your dog is way more cuter! People are so dang hateful and tacky! Ugh! What happened to keeping your mouth closed?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Adding the warm colors has you set for fall, Kim. Bailey's breed is a cousin to the Cairn terrier on the pillow. Our dog, Dickens, was a Cairn. We didn't clip him short like that, though. He always had a longer skirt and a fluffier face. This made him look cuter than the more tailored look of the guy on your pillow. Like Bailey,he liked to lie on the back of the sofa and look out the window! I miss that little guy!

  37. Such a nice sunny room and love the pooches!

  38. Wow, I love this room! I love the colors and everything looks so welcoming and comfortable.

  39. I always love seeing your seasonal change-ups in your gorgeous sun room. It's my favorite room in your home!

  40. I like how this room looks! I love your touches of brown and green in it. BTW....just an observation, I don't think you should EVER have to justify or apologize your decor to ANYONE. If someone bothered to leave a negative comment, so what. It is your room. You paid for it, you live there. End of story. I'm sorry to go off like this, but it infuriates me that people get off commenting in a way that makes people feel that their style is somehow inadequate because they don't like it or think it is not "livable". I have white everywhere and it is quite livable for me. And, if someone thought that it wasn't, enough to leave a negative comment, then I would recommend they take my blog off their favorites list! No hurt feelings here. Just stay real to your style and don't try to please people that don't have manners in the first place.

  47. I really like the new color palette! The whole room is so inviting and ready for fall/winter! The little doggie pillow is adorable (but yes, not as cute as Bailey). It almost looks like a real pup sitting there from a distance! I don't know why anybody would criticize the "white". It has such a stigma, but any color can become smudged by little hands and puppy feet. We just clean it up and carry on! Thank you so much for sharing your seasonal changes! Hugs, Leena

  55. I love this sunny room and your changes. You must have wonderful organizational skills and storage space to have such great color coordinated things ready to change out. It's gorgeous and inviting. The green and brown are such a great combination. Glad to hear you live in realville though and that it doesn't always look like this. Makes me feel better just to hear it, even though I suspect it always looks wonderful, even when cluttered and chaotic!

  58. Gorgeous! I love how you are able to transform a room simply by changing around some of the decor and changing out pillows. I love the hints of brown and green... the brown transferware is beautiful. (P.S. 60. I'm not sure why anyone would have anything negative to say about your space. It is stunning and I love it at all times of the year. I really like the brown and green theme for the Fall, great choice. It is all just perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I absolutely love this look.. and the lighter colors with the warm brown and green accents... I can understand the concern over white with kids and dogs... it's why I haven't chosen that pallet here even though it's always been a favorite look of mine. However, you make the extra effort to keep it protected, something I would be lazy about doing, and so it can work for anyone if you're willing to put the time in.

Every time you change this room I think ...Oh, but I loved it the way it was! And then I love the new look even better. Truly, Kim... this is your calling.

  62. Kim...I cannot imagine anyone making any type of negative comment on your gorgeous sunroom....I so love all the changes you have made...and that quilt is perfect!!...It was waiting for you at that shop!!...Love the cotton that Leo picked!!!...and who has a room that is always pristine?..when my granddaughter is here, there are toys all over the floor in several rooms!..I love it!

  63. Kim, no matter the season, your sunroom always steals a piece of my heart. My parent's home had a sunroom. How I miss its warmth. 67. Your sunroom is lovely! And I just want to say that all white is totally liveable with kids and pets! We have kids - no pets - but I have seen too many people on the web talk about their white rooms working with pets. it washes!
And it is funny how your room does look white and the only thing that really is white is the sofa! Love your neutral color scheme and the way you add some color with accessories! I'm all about white so i love the look!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Bailey is definitely cuter! I love your sunroom and have pinned it many times in all of its changes. I have a 'board' called sunrooms and I think you're in there the most!

  69. Lovely room Kim! I love the changes for Fall. I think Bailey is a lot cuter than the pillow, as well :)

    ReplyDelete
  81. Your room is gorgeous Kim. Glad Bailey loves it. I understand about it not looking like that all of the time. I do allow my family to eat on the sofa, but since I went to the white slipcovers, they have to sit on a towel if they are going to eat in there. I think that is fair. And when we had a westie, he was on the sofa all of the time. The collie we have now, is not allowed on furniture, and thank goodness because she is just too big and hairy! No wonder you spend so much time in here. I would too.

  82. Bailey appears to be a Yorkshire terrier, while the pillow looks like a Cairn... big difference, both cute... so moot point. :D
